Woodhaven Village is proud to announce our second year of raising funds for the Alzheimer's Association. We invite you to join us and shop for a cause. In support of the Alzheimer's Association, Woodhaven Village is

holding our 2nd Annual Benefit Rummage Sale. All funds from items donat-ed to Woodhaven Village will be given to the Alzheimer's Association. We are now collecting donations to fill our tables so please keep us in mind for

anything you may come across! All donations can be dropped during normal business hours on or after Friday, September 21.

Resident of the Month

Joseph Addison Moore-Layton came into this world on

February 16th, 1994. Joe was the only child born to a single

mother and always had to find ways to entertain himself

and others. At the age of 11 Joe found musical theater and

fell in love. Over the next couple years, he dove more into acting & singing, and at

the age of 13 he was casted in his first professional play. When Joe was 15, he and

his mother relocated to Dallas, TX for a new job offer. After only 4 short months in

Dallas, Joes mother lost her job and Joe became stuck in a funk. He found a friend

inside of a guitar and turned his negative energy into beautiful music. When Joe

moved back to Cypress, his life turned around for the better. Nominated as Class

Clown and Prom King, Joe Moore knew everybody, and everybody knew him.

When Joe isn’t here keeping you all active and full of life, he is out on the town

capturing other people’s memories. Joe owns his own business as a photographer

& videographer for different personal & corporate clients. Joe and his wife Kelli

are expecting their first child in November, Jude Joseph. We can’t wait to celebrate

your little bundle of joy. Joe Moore, thank you for keeping us on our toes and al-

ways laughing. You really pulled us out of a JAM and brought Independent Liv-

ing a lot of life.

Ruby “Adene” Johnson born the only child to a second-generation Sheriff and a master seam-

stress was raised in a little town near the Matagorda Bay called Palacious, TX. Adene enjoyed

spending her time as 1 of 4 Majorettes who performed for the band during games and events.

At the young age of 18 Adene and her boyfriend Joseph Mack Johnson went to witness an

elopement of their two closest friends. Right after they witnessed their friend’s marriage, the

two spontaneous teenagers joined together hand in hand and became husband and wife. Love

must’ve been in the air in Port Lavaca, TX. A year later the two welcome their first child, Dar-

la. About 3 years after they were married, Joseph joined the NAVY and was shipped off to

Long Beach, California. He worked full time at the local hospital as a corpsman while Adene

and Darla enjoyed the local scenery. The Johnson family was only there for a short time before

Adene & their daughter Darla returned to Palacious. When her husband got out of the service and came home they

bought a cute little house across the street from the post office, they lived here for 7 years. In 1952 they welcome a

sweet baby boy to their family, Joseph Mack Johnson II. A year later Joseph got offered a job with Union Carbide and

the family packs up to move again, this time to Victoria, TX. During this time Adene became quite the busy bee, she

purchased a 7-chair hair salon (Maria’s Beauty Shop) while also working part-time for JCPenney. They planted their

roots in Victoria for several years while they raised their little family. When their nest became empty, Joseph & Adene

realized it was time to settle down and retire. Their next move brings them to the Golf Club Community of River Plan-

tation. The Johnson family had a lot of fun in River Planation until 2014 when Mr. Joseph Mack Johnson passed away.

The two had their fair share of ups and downs during their 73 years of marriage. Adene has lived here at Woodhaven

Village since 2017, she knew several of our residents before they moved to WHV and has made a ton of friends since

moving in. Adene has a talent for making square needle point bingo markers and enjoys giving them to all the Inde-

pendent Bingo players. Adene, you are a joy to be around and we all get a kick out of looking around and seeing every-

one have a piece of you on every Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
