Fertilise your lawn with a goodquality long lasting fertiliser suchas TurfmasterGold, this will supplyyour lawn with a steady flow ofnutrients, especially Nitrogen whichis essential for a healthy lawn. Spray weeds with a broad spectrumselective weed killer to eliminatecompetition with your desired grasses. (Checkwith your Evans Turf consultant as to the bestproduct for your lawn). De-thatch the lawn ifnecessary, this is the removal of dead root, stemand leaf matter which over time builds up andforms an organic sponge which makes it difficultfor fertiliser, water and air to reach the soil. Sow your desired seed blend (choose a GTi Prolawnblend to suit your requirements or match your existing grass type). Fertilise with TurfmasterStarter to give your new grass the best possiblestart.

MowingIncorrect mowing can cause serious problemsfor your lawn with the height of cut and frequency of mowing being the two most important issues. Mow your lawn on a weekly basis even ifyou have not had any significant growth as mowing will encourageyour lawn to produce new leavesand create a thicker grass sward. Never remove more than1/3 of the leaf at any time. There is always debate about whether

or not to catch your clippings or returnthem into the lawn for nutrition. Onthe whole it is preferable to catch your clippings as it gives the lawn a sharper look and clippings in your lawn can increase the formation of thatch and prevent air and water movement to the soil.

Summer – watering and Dry PatchDeep less frequent watering will notonly assist in maintaining a beautiful greenlawn but will also reduce invasion from shallowrooting grass weeds. Watering alone is often not sufficient to maintain moisture in the soil, particularly where thatch exists and on sandy soils. Even with regular watering, dry patch’s can exist, making it difficult to re wet the area. Anearly application (before dry conditions start) ofAquaturf G from October onwards on a monthly basis until summer breaks. Aquaturf G can alsobe used in all garden areas including pots and tubs where difficulty in re-wetting exists.

Insect ControlSometimes after fertilising and applications ofwetting agent your lawn can still look sick and dry.This can often be the result of insect damage. Insects are present in your soil all year round, however damage will appear in your lawn whenyour lawn is under stress in summer or when theinsect population has reached proportions thatthe grass can’t withstand. Throughout springand summer apply Pyrifos G, a safe and easy to use lawn insecticide which comes in a user friendly shaker pack. Pyrifos G controls most lawn insects and because it is granular and can be watered in, it is more child and pet friendlythan spraying.

It will probablyhave areas that are weed infested and have a grass cover that is weak and sparse, especially incompacted soils.
