AnnualGeneralMeeting AssociationofSecretariesItwasaproudmoment forbombayYMCAasourveryownMr. PaulGeorgewas unanimously elected as thePresident of Association of Secretatries, India in themonthofOctoberatAlwaye.Thistermisforaperiodofthreeyears.
TheAnnualGeneralbodyMeetingofthebombayYMCAwasheldon30thSeptember2017andwaswellattendedbytheFullMembers.ThePresidentmadespecialmentionof themeritorious service ofMr.Melvin Louis,whoincidentlywas conducting his only AGM as GeneralSecretarysincehewasretiringinNovember2017.
The bombay YMCA is in atransitionalstage.Twoweeksago,we bid farewell to ourGeneralSecretary,Mr.MelvinLouiswhoservedthebombayYMCAwith distinction overthe past 37 years. As the
newlyinstalledleaderofthisgreatinstitution,teamworkassumesgreatsignificance,coupledwiththecommittedinvolvementofboardmembers,mycolleagues, friendsandwell-wishersinordertoretainourpositionasapreeminentYMCAinthecountry.Aswestrivetomakeanimpact andaddvalue to thecommunitiesweserve, itwouldbeourearnestendeavortoenrichtheirlivesandgivethemanewhopeforabetterfuture.
AndChristmasistheseasonofHope!WehaveenteredtheAdventSeasonandtheveryfirstweekremindsusaboutHope,followedbyFaith,Joy,&Peaceinthefollowingthreeweeks.Christmasisallabouthope.That’ssomethingweneedallyearlong,butperhapsmanyofusneedthathopeinaspecialwaythisyear.Andifwewantthathopetobepresentinourlives,wemustdowhattheshepherdsdidsolongago.WemustbowbeforethenewbornKing.Hopeis
availablebutonlytothosewhowillhumblethemselvesandbowinfaithbeforetheLordJesusChrist.
Some people think about Jesuseach year at Christmas time.Deeply touched, they resolve toknowhimpersonally.ThenthemomentpassesandthepressuresofanewyearleadthemawayfromHim.ThereisgreatdangerincomingneartoChristbutnevermakinga commitment. Sooner or later, you’ve got tomake apersonalcommitmentthatJesusChristwillbeyourLordandSaviour.Everytimeyouputitoff,itbecomesharderthenexttime.
IsthereroominyourheartforJesus?Willyoubowbeforehim?“Toallwhoreceivedhim,tothosewhobelievedinhim,hegavetherighttobecomechildrenofGod”(John1:12).HaveyoueverreceivedJesusChristasyourSaviorandLord?MayGodgiveyougracetomakeroominyourheartforhimthisChristmas.

and Navi Mumbai BranchesIndiaisalandoffestivals.ThesefestivalsbindallIndianstogetherfromdifferentcastes,religionandStates.Thereis no discriminationwhile celebrating. Traditionally theStudent&ProcterbrancheshavebeencelebratingOnam -the Harvest festival of Kerala.
ThisyeartheStudent BranchcelebratedOnamon23rdSeptember.AmodernspoofonKingMahabali,thelampandfloralcarpetsandthekaikottikkalidancebythehostelresidents, toppedbytheelaboratebanana leaf lunchof
YMCA into a floral palace,they managed to portrayin real beauty the seasonof Harvest. The hostelitespresented dances from afewStatesandtheircultureandinformationofunknownpartsofIndia.Thespecialtyofthedaywasthe35-coursemeal thatwas servedwithportionsfromalloverIndia.
Inter School EventsBrainwaves 2017 theAnnual Inter School Competition washeld from11th to 16thSeptember inShort StoryWriting, EssayWriting, General Knowledge, PosterPainting, Elocution andStory Telling. The programmereceived474entriesofwhich232tookpartattheBandra Branch and 242 participated atAndheri Branch. Thefinaleandprizedistributionwasheldon29thSeptember.Shri.AmeetbhaskarSatam(MLA,AndheriWest)wasthe
traditionaldelicaciesofKeralamadeitaneventforalltoenjoyandcherish.
Similarly,Procter BranchhelditsOnamCelebrationson24thSeptemberinanafternoonoffellowshipandculturalcelebrationwithseveralperformancesputupbyHostelresidentsandtheUniversitySettlementhostelgirls.TheafternoonendedwiththesumptuousOnamSadhya.
SincelastthreeyearstheNavi Mumbai Branch hosteliteshavebeencelebratingEkata – Harvest Festivals of India.Thisyearitwasheldon24thSeptember.Recreatingthe

The session covered thesubjecton importanceofnutrition inchild’shealthandgrowth.Thesessionwasconductedthroughinteractivegamesandsongs. Inall52Teachersfromthebalwadi,Nursery,PlayGroupandNightstudycentreoftheORDattendedthesession.
TocommemorateWorld Aids Day,anawarenesssessionwasconductedon1stDecemberattheDayCareCentre,Kamatipuravachnalaya.150peopleattendedthesessionwhichincludedStaffofKotakEducationFoundationalongwith students, balwadi supervisors, teachers, helpers,
&CommunityHealthvolunteer-GurunanakHealthPostfromb.M.C.).
Similarly “WorldHIV/AIDS Week”was observed on6thDecember.Around65volunteersandbeneficiariesofYMCA(vTCstudents&kindergartenchildren’sparents)and15 staff were part of the awareness rally whichstartedfromYMCAbandratotheKharDandaAreaandback.AstreetplaywasconductedintwodifferentplacesbytheRasik Kala Munch Group Mumbai.

Sharan“SHARAN” is aHomeless Women and Child Shelter.bombay YMCA in association with the MunicipalCorporation of GreaterMumbai (MCGM), under thedirectiveoftheSupremeCourtofIndia,hasundertaken
tosetupaHomelessWomenandChildShelter called“SHARAN”atSakiNaka,atthe4000sq.ft.plotallottedbythebMC,locatedclosetotheSakiNakaMetrostation.Theproject issupportedbytheRotaryClubofMumbaiDivasand isequippedwith facilities to takecareof32
womenandchildren,withthepotentialofexpandingthecapacityto100.Wehaveprovidedbunkbeds,lockers,akitchenanddininghall,acounsellingandmedicalunit,anSOSroomforemergencycasesandshortstay,aCrècheforchildrenandopportunitiesforvocationaltraining.WehavealsotiedupwithlocalNGOs,HospitalsandPoliceStationstonetworkandempowerthesewomentogetbackontheirfeet.
Asweenteredintothefifthmonthofoperationwehave29inmateswithusand52caseshasbeenintervenedsuccessfully.

Vacation Bible SchoolNavi Mumbai Branch organized vbS for the childrenfromtheages5yearsto17yearsheldfrom23rdto29th

Stories, songs and interactive activitiesweresharedwith Christian principles to teach the childrenhowtheyshouldbewillingtomaketheir lifebetter.AsalwaysthiswasajointprogrammealongwiththeEnglish Methodist Church, Borivali YMCA and Oasis whosemembershelpedoutasvolunteersandteachersandalsosponsoredtherefreshments.
YMCA / YWCA Week of PrayerThis Annual programme conducted jointly with theYWCAwasheldfrom12thto18thNovember.Thethemeforthisyearwas:Stand Up, Speak Up. Be the voice of the voiceless.The inauguralservicewasheldatTaylorMemorialMethodistChurch,byculla.Mr.JacobKoshy,President,bombayYMCA, read out the jointmessagefrom the Presidents ofWorld YMCAand YWCA.Mrs.Priyadarsini John, President, YWCAwelcomed themembersofthechurchandmembersofYMCAandYWCA.Rev. Raj Jacob, priest in charge of theChurch, spokeeloquentlyonthetopic.HeexpoundedontheScripture

The42nd Bombay YMCA State Level Annual Athletic Meet 2017was held from 15th to 18th November atMumbaiUniversity Sports Pavilion,Marine Lines. CAMPS&TREKSTheDiwali campwasheldatYMCACampLakesidefrom24thto28thOctober.Itwasafivedayadventureprogrammewith the theme ‘building Stronger Communities’. 65children participated in the programme and itwas asuccess,withmany activities like the ropes course,rockclimbing,arts,newactionpackedgames,skitsandmore.

SixwrestlersfromWellingdonYMCAparticipatedintheMaharashtra Kesri Wrestling competition whichwasheldon21stNovemberatWadala.Mr. Zeeshan Baigwasthewinnerofthewrestlingcompetition.

Therewere98camperswhoparticipatedandenjoyedthecampwithfunfilledactivitiesthatwereadventurousandfun.ThecampersgottoknoweachotherwellwithmanyTeambuildingactivities,campsongsandgameswhichwereorganized for them.Theex-boysHomeboysandthesocialworkersworkedhardtohelpmakethiscampasuccess.Theyfacilitatedthecampersandparticipatedalongwiththemintheactivitiesandkepttheteamspiritssoaring.
