PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Mental Health Awareness has been a focus in May and as a school community we are proud of our efforts to do our best to acknowledge the importance of breaking the stigma and breaking the silence. As a school, through the efforts our Student Services department, and through staff involvement in

various activities and partnerships with community agencies, we try to keep mental health awareness on the forefront year round. More specifically, these efforts were highlighted by another of our annual Mental Health Days on May 8th. I would like to thank Mrs. Hyrtsak for her work in organizing numerous guest speakers and I would like to thank all those who came to present to our students. If you have concerns about the mental health of a child or a friend, please do not hesitate to contact the school so we can help or point you in the direction of resources and community agencies that can also be of help.

We would like to thank our SADD Group once again for their work in organizing our annual spinathon to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted and impaired driving. Please do your very best to keep consistent and open dialogue with your kids about these important topics and how they can best protect themselves and their friends.

Congratulations to the wrestling team for their success at provincials bringing home the team championship banner. Both Magnus McCrackin and Logan Kennedy were individual provincial champions and recognition also goes to PK McCrackin and Wikus Kriel for their commitment to their wrestling and to the team this year as their contributions also supported the team’s success. Both Magnus and PK McCrackin are currently representing Canada on the Junior and Cadet National Teams respectively and both are off to the Pan American Championships in Guatemala City in June. Rugby, soccer and track and field are all underway now and our teams are off to a great start...stay tuned for more details. Please remember that this year’s athletic

celebration banquet known as Bandits Colour Night will be held on Thursday, June 13 at the Royal Executive Inn from 6:00-8:00 pm. Any student who has played on at least one school team is encouraged to attend; it is quite something to see how many student athletes we have and to hear about their accomplishments.

On the Arts front, the ESBCHS One Act Festival was a hit again resulting in solid performances at Zones once again and we currently have two productions competing at Provincials in Red Deer this weekend….stay tuned for more details in these results as well.

Grad is quickly approaching too. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with students and their families. This year is the first year we have held our ceremony at the Jubilee Auditorium as our growing grade 12 groups simply made it necessary to find a bigger venue. The Jubilee is a great venue and we look forward to our inaugural ceremony there. ESBCHS Grad Ceremonies are second to none, and we look forward to another great one this year! We greatly appreciate the time and efforts of the many staff members, parents and students it takes to make our Grad such a special event.

May will pass quickly so I want to remind students and parents that exams are approaching and that it is important for students to keep on top of things right up to the end of classes as this will put them in the best position possible to successfully write final exams and complete their courses. The last day of classes are Friday, June 14 for Grades 10-12 and Tuesday, June 18 for Grade 9 students. The final exam schedule is now available. Students must check the schedule and if there are any conflicts they will need to see Ms. MacArthur as soon as possible. Please note that Friday, June 21 is Aboriginal Day and teachers will be available to students for tutoring as needed throughout the day. If students eat well, rest well, and break their studying into consistent and manageable components, they will increase their chances of success in their exams. Good luck everyone...your hard work will pay off!

MYPASS REMINDER

All students should be getting registered on MyPass which allows you to see your course information and, ultimately, your diploma exam marks. Grade 12’s in particular need to ensure they have their MyPass accounts set up in order to be able to access Diploma Exam results. Alberta Education will send notifications in January however students can initiate the process themselves by going to MyPass.alberta.ca and following instructions but you must use an email address other than your @blackgold.ca address as it expires at the end of June.

ART BEAT

Art Beat, our highly anticipated student art

their art and photography at Art Beat are

JUNE EXAM SCHEDULE

newsletter. If your child has any conflicts

with their exams please have them see

as possible.

COLOUR NIGHT

On June 13th, the Athletics Department will

be putting on our annual Colour Night. This

year Colour Night will be a ticketed banquet

at the Royal Executive Inn where there will be

a buffet and awards. During the year,

athletes would have already paid for the

event. If you would like extra tickets, (max. 2

per athlete) they will be on sale near the end

of May for $25.00 each. More details to

follow in the coming weeks

May means soccer, rugby, and track season. All teams have just started their play in Edmonton Metro. More to come in June!

Congratulations to Micah Beasley and German de la Garza, who finished 4th in the province in the Junior Boys Doubles category at Badminton Provincials in Calgary.

STUDENT SERVICES INFORMATION

TIMETABLE ADJUSTMENTS - 2019/20 SCHOOL YEAR

Student timetables will be accessible on PowerSchool by their registration day in August.

There are only three reasons a student timetable may be adjusted:

Students have successfully completed a course through Summer school or correspondence over the summer. Summer School Changes Only: Students may call 780-929-1340 in June to book an appointment for August 27th and 28th in order to change their timetable with Student Services. Remember students must present final marks for completed courses at the time of their appointment.

Students who either received a better final mark than expected or did not pass the prerequisite course with the required minimum percent and require an adjustment to core subjects. Please inform Student Services of required changes during exam week, after pertinent final exams have been written, PRIOR to summer vacation. All course change forms must be submitted by September 6th.

To fill a spare

October 1st is the deadline for ‘Core” course transfers.

Students wishing to change their timetable for other reasons will be directed to Administration.

2019 Town and Country Daze Beaumont's annual community festival! Activities begin on Friday with a street party to celebrate Beaumont's new city status! Saturday morning kicks off with a Pancake Breakfast followed by the Parade (clockwise around the ring road). Additional events on Saturday include soapbox derby, car show & shine, midway, movies in the arena, fireworks and more! Town and Country Daze 2019 is looking for volunteers to work various positions.
