The last time Jesus ate Passover with His disciples He also shared with them the first Holy Communion. This is when He explained that the bread represents His body that would be broken, and the grape juice represents His blood that would be poured out. Before this, while they were waiting for the food to be served, Jesus got up, wrapped a towel around His waist and began to wash their feet. This made the disciples very uncomfortable. Probably because they knew that they should have been washing His feet instead. When Jesus came to him, Peter tried to stop Him from washing his feet. Jesus told Peter, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.” Peter then wanted Jesus to wash his head and his hands too, but Jesus told him all that needed to be washed were his feet. Just like Peter, we need to learn that only Jesus can wash away our sin, we can only be with Him after our sin has been washed away, and we are washed God’s way not ours.
