2008: Living On the Streets

Immediately after graduation

I was living on the streets, in

a beaten up 1995 Pontiac

Sunfire.

I had no money... worked at

as a pizza delivery boy.. and

didn't know what to do.

I might have seemed happy..

but I wasn't.

So I Did What Everyone Else

DidI worked my tail off, moved into an apartment, and

struggled for about 2 years, just to get by.

Eventually I got a job at a trucking company called UPS..

But that didn't last long.

They laid me off

January 4th of 2010.

Luckily, I found Michael Brown, who taught me the basics

of working for myself and how I could make money online.

At first... I thought he was

full of bologna

But he was real and honest.

That's the guy!

I Had to Figure Something

Out... Fast

Only a Short While After..

I made my first income online.

And it was AMAZING.

Talk about jumping up and down with joy, I was so excited

that I called all of my friends and family and told them

what I had just achieved...

A feat so great...

That I couldn't believe it!

But get this...

It wasn't a lot of money.

In fact, I only made $0.23

But the beauty of it was that I made that $0.23,

while I was sleeping like a baby

How I Made the Money

Firstly, I'd like to say, thank you Michael. You rock.

But for those of you who don't know how money works

online, there is something called "pay per click" ads that

you can place on your website.

What happened, is someone came

to my site, clicked on the ad

and BOOM I made money.

I thought it was pretty cool too..

I Started to Brainstorm

Immediately after my initial

success I started to

brainstorm on how I could

make even more money.

I started trying out different

tactics and began to see

money in my accounts daily..

But I wanted more..

Then I Learned About Affiliate

MarketingThe way this is works is you make money everytime

someone clicks on something called an "affiliate link" and

then they buy something from the website you link them

to.

Visitor -> Your Site -> Clicks Link -> Buys -> Profit

For each sale you bring the company, you earn something

called a "commission".

This could be a % of the sale or a set amount.

My Big Idea

After I understood affiliate marketing, I began to test out

different things.. all leading up to one of my biggest (and

most profitable ideas).

What if...

Instead of finding companies online to promote, I found a

company offline?

So that's what I did!

The Offline Affiliate Formula

Now before I jump into this, I want you to know, it's an

easy to use forumla, that can be used in any niche.

So here's how it works...

I Went to a Local Business

and Simply Asked...

"If I could bring you new clients, could you give me a

referral bonus? You ONLY have to pay me when you get

new customers from me."

And after about 3 minutes,

they said yes.

Tip: Being a current customer

of the business is a HUGE plus.

Apartment complexes - My original idea. Get a referral

bonus for each person that mentions your name.

Repair Shops - Make a % of the repair order.

How I Brought Them

CustomersThis part was actually really easy.

You see, local marketing isn't hard.

That's because there are

so few people doing it.

First things first, I created a website.

The Website

You don't need a fancy looking website for this to work,

really all you need is a domain, hosting, and WordPress.

Honestly, I didn't do anything special to it, I simply added

a page with about 500 words that said..

"Hey, if you'd like to move into this apartment, mention my

name" - This of course is the summarized version.

Along with words related to the area. Like "Chesapeake,

VA" and "Apartments in Chesapeake"

Craiglist Ads

Again, super easy.

I went to http://www.craigslist.org/ which if you don't know

is the largest free classified ads site online.

Then I created an ad that simply stated what to do in the

title + description and linked it to my site.

"Mention Justin Lewis when you move into the Ivystone

Apartments in Chesapeake, VA!" - Title of ad

Profit

That's the idea. It's simple. And

actionable.

I made more than $12,000.00 from this

idea by just promoting 1 apartment

complex.

You could find even more local

businesses and affiliate with them and

scale this idea up as much as you'd like.

These tips are in no particular order

Be a customer first, it helps!

Build a relationship with the employees

Don't be a salesman, be yourself

See if you can get incentives, like "Save $$$ when

you mention my name!"

Maybe even, create the business a free website to

build trust?

Help people and they'll help you in return.
