It takes more time to actually travel to a shopping centre and purchase an item, check out and then travel back home than to switch your your computer on and purchase or order an item online. Comparing item prices is also faster online as compared to shopping centres. However, comparing item quality is much simpler in a shopping centre and getting a perfect fitting item is easier when a dressing room is available. Shopping online does not offer the social experience which a shopping centre does, either. Differences between online shopping and shopping centres- 1. Quality and price comparison: Comparing item prices is much faster online than in shopping centres. Websites like Shopzilla or Bizrate give online shoppers an opportunity to compare product/ item cost and thus customer satisfaction is enhanced. Visiting multiple stores/ shops in the shopping centre to compare item prices is time consuming and may not produce any feedback on the level of customer satisfaction. Going to the shopping centre gives a buyer an opportunity to do different comparisons on the product. In person, a buyer can determine the quality of the product as well as other specifications like color and/ or size. 2. Added Expenses: There are a number of added expenses that come with purchasing items at the shopping centre or online. Shipping and handling charges apply when buying items online. Added expenses associated with buying items at the shopping centre include transportation, and unplanned purchase of other products, food or beverages. 3. Convenience: Online shopping is much more convenient than shopping at the shopping centre. A trip to a shopping centre may take 2 to 3 hours, transportation time included. Online shopping cuts out transportation time as well as time spent walking from one store to another. People with physical disabilities have fewer obstacles to deal with when purchasing items online. Many shops at the shopping centres have clothing racks or displays that are poorly arranged or crowded making the use of a walker or wheelchair very difficult/ inconvenient. 4. The overall experience: Walking from one store to another in the shopping centre give the shopper an opportunity to exercise. For some people it’s also a wonderful social experience that is shared with family and friends. However, it can be frustrating to get a parking place and the shopping centre can be very noisy and crowded. 5. Environmental impact: Online shopping and shopping at the shopping centre both affect the environment, but in varying ways. Items purchased online need to be shipped/ transported from the source to the buyer. Fuel is utilized by the cargo ship, train or airplane and the delivery truck which brings the item(s) to its final destination. Items purchased online need 2 1/2 times more packaging than item(s) bought in a shopping centre. Fuel is also utilized by a car or public transport vehicle to the shopping centre. The shopping centre and its shops consume energy in form of water, electricty, heating and cooling. Although they offer different shopping experiences, both online shopping and shopping centres give buyers shopping options. Online shopping is ideal for individuals who are very busy. All you need to do is provide the suppliers with your phone number and address for an item to be shipped to your home. Shopping centres are ideal for people who are less busy and could like to exercise while shopping. Did you like this?
