Great Weekend for Remuera Squash Teams at the District Eliminations B & D Teams off to Nationals

Remuera entered 7 teams in the graded Super Champs and recorded 2 outright winners, 1 runner-up and while the other teams had mixed results they enjoyed the participation. The B Grade Men’s Team played all matches at Remuera and the support was terrific. In an even competition any one of the top 4 seeds were capable of taking out the title. But our boys were on a mission! They were seeded 4th and were out to prove they were number one! And prove it they did. Remuera and Manurewa both comfortably made the finals and in doing so these two committed sides produced some great squash. At 2 matches all one of our ‘anchor’ players Rob Clark left no doubts which team was the best on the day. A former A Grader and close to

being back there, Rob showed shades of his good old days and was too strong for another former A Grader Andrew Jefferies. Rob won in straight games.

The D Grade Men were the top seeds Their section was a round robin pool and they won all 5 matches. The Nationals for the D Grade will be held in Hamilton while the B Men are off to Christchurch in September.

Flashback - ‘They’ Were Right!

Mooney (aka Simon Muirhead), Phil Vodanovich and Phil Wallace studying the teams lists prior to

the Eliminations. All three confidently predicted a Remuera win!!

Right:

Last minute replacement performed well. Denzil Grant was happy to be a late addition to the

Remuera B side and had some great matches. Although the team were outplayed they—Simon Muirhead, Phil Wallace, Taylor Leabourn,

Gareth Wilkinson and Denzil Grant enjoyed the tough matches.

Masters Did Not Miss out!

Because of the busy use of the courts last the courts last week the Masters slightly re-arranged their times so they could still have their weekly challenges amongst themselves (as there was no interclub), enjoy the tasty food and for good measure watch a few good matches. Well Organised!
