Online access to Nature Directives information
The UK perspective

Nature Directives in the UK – online content
• The JNCC website has a portal to information on each and every UK Natura 2000 site (over 900)
• However this is primarily the information presented on the Standard Data Forms together with GIS data.
• Other information, eg conservation objectives and management measures is available at the Country level (ie England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
• For offshore sites we are building site information centres, as a “one-stop shop” to these 20 Natura sites via a mapping portal.

High level accessible information
Other UK wide information• All of our Article 17 and Article 12 data is available via
the European Reporting pages on JNCC website. • The National Biodiversity Network Gateway provides
species data for each site.• We have a UK online portal to surveillance and
monitoring initiatives http://www.ukeof.org.uk/catalogue. • We have recently published a catalogue of case law
relating to the Nature Directives.
The future challenges...• All UK Countries are striving to improve their on-line
delivery.– improved guidance for stakeholders– updated Standard Data Forms by end of 2015
• It will be a challenge to join this up at the UK level.• Protected Areas are just one of many tools used to
achieve Nature Conservation goals. – Our “Nature Directives” information needs to be part of a wider
picture.
