Reflexión del Evangelio: Easter Sunday celebrates the core of Christian faith: belief in

Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead. All four Gospel accounts

begin their Resurrection narratives with the experience of the

empty tomb. In John, Mary of Magdala, Simon Peter, and the

beloved Disciple, Mary Magdala reports to the two disciples

that “they have taken the Lord from the tomb.” She does not yet

believe that Jesus had risen. Simon Peter reacts by investigating

the tomb itself, and discovers is “the burial cloths” and the be-

loved disciple also likewise sees the burial cloths. John tells us

that “he saw and believed.” And “they did not yet understand

the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.” The beloved

Disciple alone believes without understanding. In the First

Reading from Acts, Peter believes in Jesus though he does not

yet have understanding. Peter recounts the public ministry of

Jesus, from the activities of John the Baptist to the resurrected

Christ’s apostolic commission to preach to all people. Peter

eventually came to believe and understand that “everyone who

believes in him (Jesus) will receive forgiveness of sins through

his name.” The Resurrection of Christ often surpasses human

understanding. Even more important than understanding the

Resurrection it is believing in it.

El domingo de Pascua celebra el núcleo de la Fe Cristiana: creer en

La Resurrección de Jesús de entre los muertos. Los cuatro relatos

evangélicos comienzan sus narraciones de resurrección con la ex-

periencia de la tumba vacía. En Juan; María de Magdala, Simón

APRIL 12, 2020 EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD

Some Words from the Pastor: Celebrating the Paschal Triduum, the passion, death

and resurrection of Christ, without the people of

God, who are supposed to be gathered in the church,

brings a weird and strange feeling. How meaningful

will the celebrations be without the presence of the

people? These celebrations are supposed to be for the

people of God, and not just for the priests. I could imagine how the

archbishop felt when he celebrated the Chrism Mass without the

people, especially without the priests who were supposed to renew

their priestly vows with him on that day. He said that never in his 40

years as a priest did he ever imagined that anything like it would

happen. And for me, it was the first time in my life as a priest that I

was not able to celebrate the Chrism mass, and renew my priestly

promises with the other priests. Although I did renew my vows as I

participated by watching the celebration of the Chrism mass at the

Cathedral; It is so sad what this is happening, we are living in

extraordinary times.

Thus I could also sense your sadness and longing to take part in the

celebration of the mass especially during the Holy Week as we

prepare ourselves to celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Lord

Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. It is my firm belief, though, and faith

in the risen Lord, that we will all rise from this; We are all in this. We

will all go through this on the cross, there is resurrection. We

experience all these struggles and difficult times, which is the cross

that we are all carrying during these difficult times. We all believe

that this will lead us to an experience of our own resurrection with

Christ, as w share in his Paschal Mystery.

We used to describe the hour of the crucifixion, with the death of

Jesus, as the moment when the world stood still. Then God would

reset the events in the world through the resurrection of his Son Jesus

Christ. God has made the world stand still during these days of the

corona virus. People stop from doing their usual chores and busy

routines. People stayed at home with their families. The clock seems

to stop clicking: There is silence, God is whispering. The Lord is

telling us something “Be still and know that I am God.” He is

speaking to us, “I am the Lord your God, and there is no other.”

“ Believe” “Obey ” “And have faith..” May the resurrection of Christ

bring us a renewed faith and a new beginning as we start our lives

anew after this pandemic. I keep on praying for

all of you and your families.

DURING THESUSPENSION OF THE PUBLIC

CELEBRATIONS THE MASS (Adopted for our Parish)

March 24, 2020

General Considerations: Parish Churches, , Parish Office,

Chapels, centers and missions, are to be closed to the public

effective March 24, 2020 until April 19, 2020 or until further

notice.

MASS: With the suspension of the mass from March 17-29,

2020, let us continue to keep the Lord’s Day holy. You can read

the Gospels, pray with your families. People can participate in

the mass via livestream: facebook.com/lacatholics, visit lacatho-

lics.org/ emergency. Or Word on Fire of Bishop Robert Barron.

*The celebration of Mass has been suspended in the Archdio-

cese of Los Angeles until April 19, 2020.

*Priests are encouraged to continue celebrating Mass for

their faithful but should take form of a “Private Mass” and be

livestreamed. One or two Ministers may assist the priest.

* Priest are encourage the faithful to keep the Lord’s Day

holy. Include: reading the Gospels, praying with their families,

and to join to the sacrifice of the Mass by making an act of spir-

itual communion.

* Parishioners are invited to inform their par ishioner s of

opportunities to view Mass or other services Via livestream.

CONFESSIONS: Par ishes are to cancel all Lenten penance

services and suspend all regular scheduled confession times.

*Priest may offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation only in

danger of death or extremely extraordinary situations. Please

observe social distancing, while at the same time ensuring

privacy for the penitent. There are no confessions by telephone,

electron means. Or by “drive-up.”

ANOINTING OF THE SICK: This sacrament is available

for the sick. Please call the parish office. Our lay Eucharistic

ministers to the homebound are ask to rest during this time. So

giving Holy Communion for the homebound is reserved only to

the priest.

BAPTISMS: Unless an emer gency, the celebration of the

Sacrament of Baptism are postponed

FUNERALS: Funerals may take place only in the form of

the “Rite of Committal with Final Commendation (grave-

service) at the cemetery. Family members can request for a me-

morial mass at a later date.

CONFIRMATIONS: All now confirmations from now until

Easter Sunday are postponed. Rescheduling will be handled at a

later time.

* Holy Week: The Archbishop will celebrate the Chr ism

Mass in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on April 2,

2020. Additionally, the Archbishop will celebrate the liturgies of

the Sacred Paschal Triduum at the Cathedral. Priest and faithful

are encouraged to view the Cathedral’s livestream of the Mass.

Algunas Palabras Del Sacerdote: Celebrando el Triduo Pascual, la Pasión, muerte y

Resurrección de Cristo, sin el pueblo de Dios, que

se supone que deben reunirse en la iglesia, trae un

sentimiento extraño y triste. ¿Qué tan significativas

serán las celebraciones sin la presencia de la gente?

Se supone que estas celebraciones son para el

pueblo de Dios, y no solo para los sacerdotes. Me

imaginaba cómo se sintió el arzobispo cuando celebró la Misa

Crismal sin la gente, especialmente sin los sacerdotes que se suponía

que renovarían sus votos sacerdotales con él ese día. Dijo que nunca

en sus 40 años como sacerdote imaginó que algo así sucedería. Y

para mí, fue la primera vez en mi vida como sacerdote que no pude

celebrar la misa de Crisma y renovar mis promesas sacerdotales con

los otros sacerdotes. Aunque renové mis votos mientras participaba

viendo la celebración de la misa de Crisma en la Catedral; Es muy

triste lo que está sucediendo, estamos viviendo en tiempos
