Seeing as its Christmas, I thought wed have a look at what theclever chaps at Model Factory Hiro had on offer.

First up, already available, is the 1/12th scale, Multi Media McLar-en MP4/5B. Basically, you name the material, this kit has it. Resin,PE, IMP, White Metal and a whole bunch more of fun stuff.

It is a monster of a kit, not just in size, but in detail, and consider-ing that 90% of it is hidden by the body cowl, it is no mean feat.

MFH are known for not doing things by halves, and this certainlyis one of those kits that lives up-to their name. Yours for aroundR6500 plus shipping, I wont tell your wife if you dont!

Even though the above toys are really magnificent pieces, below is what is getting everyones knickers in aknot.

These are test shots of the new Porsche 956, in 1/12th Scale. The first time, I believe, its ever been made inthis scale. It looks like its going to be an EPIC kit, it looks like its going to be a HUUUGE kit and I have nodoubt it will cost just a tad bit more than the other two.

Go check them out at :

    www.modelfactoryhiro.com

    MFH -PORN IN 1/12TH SCALE

Another one that you cantry and sneak in under yourshirt is that absolutelyastonishing Ferrari 250GTO

Words cant really describejust what this kit is about. You need to go onto theirwebsite and have a look atthe detail that this littlebeastie has

This really is a chassis upbuild.

Its probably not going to leave you with much change out of 10 Grand to get on your table, but like the ladyon the tv says, Im worth it...

    ________________________________________________

My name is Garry and I have a problem

I am addicted to building models.

I started building when I was 6 years old and my first model was an Airfix Red Arrows Fol-land Gnat, which I proudly painted with the blood from my thumb, can you imagine thehorror today!

Growing up in the UK was definitely a plus from a model building point of view, and Iblame my Dad, I fondly remember sitting and watching him scratch-build model trains andbuses, its his entire fault, he got me hooked. Then I discovered Tamiya F1 models andthere was no hope anymore.

Over the years I have strayed into Aircraft and Armour, but my first love has always called

me back and these days I only build cars and bikes. Unlike a lot of guys I never took a

break in my late teens early 20s and even had a small tool kit and some parts with me

whilst I was doing my national service.

The big challenge is that I enjoy most areas of our hobby, even American cars. My great-est enjoyment and passion comes from the F1 and Le Mans cars from the 50s through tothe 80s, this for me is when drivers were drivers and the mechanics were scared , specta-tors were there to watch the racing not to be seen and sex really was the breakfast ofchampions.

    Over the years I have

gained a bit of a reputa-

    tion as a multi-media

    kit specialist, this is

    largely due to the fact

    that they are the ones

    producing the subjects

    I love, although they are

    rather more challenging

    than a FujiTamyiGawa

    kit.

I also have a weakness in the fact that I will often prepare and paint the body of a model

and then put it back in the box for years sometimes. This also often means I have 4 or 5

active projects on the go at any one time.

If I had to name the biggest event in my car modeling career, it would have to be the ad-

vent of the SANNL, For the last 18 years this had been my yearly pilgrimage to likeminded

model building buddies, and has really lead to the development of my skills and even di-

    versified my interests.

If I have to pick out one model as my favorite build over the

past few years, this would be the Revell Routemaster London

bus. I think it was the combination of fantastic subject, great

quality model and childhood memories that lead to this model

being bought, started the same day and not leaving the bench

until 5 months later it was finished, the crowning glory for this

When asked recently by someone I consider to be a decent modeler, how I manage to getsuch a scale shine on my cars, the only answer seemed obvious , patience, practice and adash more patience.

Live long and build them all !

    S.N

    .O.T

    .T

The economic crash that accompanied the turn of the century brought with it a social upheaval thatrocked the nation. Widespread unemployment and the collapse of the Social Security system drovean unprecedented number of young people into the underworld.

Those that still had jobs were despondent and sought refuge in the arms of so-called recreationalpharmaceuticals. These two phenomena fed on each other and by 2019 it was estimated that 87%of all males between the ages of 14 and 32 were either trafficking drugs or were drug addicts. It was

also estimated that over 70% of the Police Force were involved in this thriving industry. Most US in-ner-cities resembled third world banana-republics and it looked as if there was no way to stop thedecline.

    DATELINE -MIAMI 2019...

When President Schwarzenegger came to office early in 2017, he had won the election on his com-mitment to fighting crime and the economic reconstruction of the once proud USA. His first majortask was to re-establish a police force that the citizens could trust. He established the elite SpecialNarcotics Operational Task Team (S.N.O.T.T.) using hand-picked officers of impeccable credentials. He gave them a free hand in cleaning up the city and also gave them immunity from prosecution. Anattitude of shoot first - ask questions later was encouraged and they were instructed to stop atnothing to rid the cities of drugs.

The S.N.O.T.T. was equipped with a very specialised vehicle - the so-called Snottcar. Since thedomestic motor industry had already collapsed, 2000 Lancia Stratos were specially commissioned

from Fiat in Italy. They were delivered to Weikert Motor Works in South Carolina in batches of fifty. Here they were extensively modified with transversely mounted fuel injected small block Chevroletengines in an armoured capsule that covered the rear wheels as well. A second armoured capsuleprotected the occupants, and the nose was armoured as well. N.Ireland style grids protected thesides of the vehicle.

Armament consisted of a single 50mm cannon on the passenger side with an infra-red sight mount-ed on the turret. A second infra-red unit was mounted on the left side of the roof, enabling the driverto have perfect vision at night without the use of headlights. A smoke generator was installed on theright hand side of the roof.

The first car was made operational early in 2018 and within six months, 250 Snottcars have beenput on the street. It is too early to judge the effectiveness of the unit, but the S.N.O.T.T, coupled toSchwarzeneggers aggressive economic plan may be the last chance that America has to claw itsway back to being a respected nation!

    15/20

New from Tamiya recently this little gem, following on fromthe Jaegermeister release a few months back.

This time round its the 1976 Group 4 racer in Vaillant col-ours.

The colour scheme isn't actually new as it was initially re-leased on the 1/12th 934 way back in the stone age, andrecently as a limited edition again.

First thing upon opening the box is the colour, CobaltGreen!. One sprue in the green with the chassis and asso-ciated bits, and another in black with the interior and a fewexterior details.

No engine in this, although there is a fair representation ofa Porsche flat six underside, a turbo and a few other bitsthat should keep the engine fans happy.

Unfortunately, if you are a car interior fan, then not muchmore her than a seat, roll cage dashboard and steering

wheel. All can be brought to life with careful painting anddrybrushing.

Included in the kit is a nice little fret of Photo Etch, for thevarious engine grilles and intakes, and the ones at thefront might need a bit of bending to get around the con-tours of the intakes.

Nice set of Satin chromed wheels,, not too shiny, and oncethe centres have been painted gold, they will look the partnicely.

Although it looks like there are a lot of decals from the boxtop, the decal sheet isn't actually that big, but I think that

has more to do of the mastery of Cartograf for getting eve-rything into as small as space as possible.

The only thing that I can actually see that one might strug-gle with is the yellow decals around the intakes at the front(yes, they come as decals), but if it does present a hugeproblem you could always mask off and paint.

We dont have to struggle like our friends did when theVaillant first came out, getting the colour right, becauseTamiya have released a special edition TS spray just forthe kit.

On the whole, no flash, very faint mould lines, very few

mould lines on the body, but a couple of injector pin markshere but they can be hidden. Tamiya have very cleverlyhidden the injector pin marks on the interior, in the floorindentations.

Definitely one to get. Comes with its own PE, (althoughsome people dont like Tamiyas PE)

Lots of detail painting, lots of decals and the usual fineTamiya engineering. Go buy one.

Modelling Tips for Car ModellersStoring Decals

If you plan to store them for less than 5 years, just keep them in a cool, dry, flat place. If you an-ticipate a longer storage period, wrap each decal sheet in a single layer of wax or tissue paper sothe decal sheets won't come in contact with any other chemicals or reactive materials to contami-nate them. Then slide each decal into a plastic page protector. Try to get the low acid ones thatare specific for holding paper things so the decals are not ruined. The wax paper will protect themif you cannot find the low acid ones, so don't worry. These then can go right into a 3ring binderfor easy access and safe storage. When you need a decal, just pull the binder off of the bookshelfand thumb through it to find what you want.

    Braided Hose

For braided hoses, use classical guitar strings.

    Adding Colour to Raised Surfaces

Use a fine tip permanent marker to do light detail on models like names on tail gates of trucks.Use it also for high lighting the tiny bolts on the chassis of you models. Experiment first to figureout how hard to press down. This way you do not mess up your project.

    Trimming Foil

When applying chrome foil to the bright shiny paint job, you might try colouring you scalpel bladeblack with a magic marker. This helps you to see the blade point better against the foil.

    Scribing Straight Lines

Use the adhesive labels from a Dymo plastic label maker as a guide for you blade or scribing tool. They are plastic and quite strong, and the glue will stick without damaging the plastic. The bonusis that it won't slide around the way a ruler will.

    Smoothing Scribed Lines

After scribing door lines, run a small piece of folded 400 wet or dry grit sandpaper up and down

the panel line. This takes the burrs off the edge and the sandpaper will conform to the curves aswell.

    Making White Walls

An easy way to add white wall tires to your model is to use an artists circle stencil. Just cover thetire with the circle stencil and airbrush. Be sure to use an acrylic paint, as enamel won't dryproperly on the rubber tires.

    Painting a Pin Stripe

Scribe a line down the side of the body or part to be striped. Make the line about as deep andwide as a straight pin. Then paint the body or part as usual. After the paint is dry, polish it out andthen fill in the stripe groove with thick enamel paint. Once that has dried, sand off the excess"stripe" paint and polish the area. It will leave a beautiful, perfectly flat contrasting stripe embed-ded into the paint.

    19/20

    Custom Made Headers

Use solid core silver solder to make special exhaust headers. It bends easy and is easy to attachwith superglue.

    Stop that Compressor from Travelling

One easy tip that helps keep your air brush compressor from traveling all over the place while itoperates, is to place it on a computer mouse pad.

Adding White Colour to the Lettering on Tire Sidewalls

A useful method of adding white colour to raised surfaces such as the lettering on tire sidewalls isto use a Chinagraph pencil available at most art stores. The pencil can be sharpened to give fine

lines and a light coat of suitable non gloss lacquer will keep the colour on.

    Tyres too Shiny?

Are the tyres on American kits too shiny for you? Simply give them a light coat of Testors Dullcoat(#1260) or Tamiya Flat Clear Spray to kill the gloss!

    Making Vent Hose

Make realistic looking vent hose by using a large paper clip straightened out, a few small springsout of ball point pens and some heat shrink tubing bought at your local electronics shop. Put heatshrink over the spring, apply heat and bend to fit. The paper clip slipped through the inside willhelp it to retain its shape.

    Mixing Paint

Add two small ball bearings to each jar of paint that you open. This creates a miniature "rattlecan" and helps to mix the paint each time you use it.

Music Coming From Your Model Cars Speakers

Imagine having music coming from your model car speakers at your next show. You can! Go toyour local discount department store and purchase an inexpensive pair of headphones. Open theheadphones very carefully and remove the speakers. Place the headphone speakers in the nor-mal position of your model car speakers and wire the speakers as they were. Build a hollow basefor your model car large enough to house a MP4 player or an IPod. Upload the music of yourchoice and you are jammin'.
