The Fun Part – What you get to do and learn!
Congratulations on your desire to become a more knowledgeable and skilled diver! You’ve completed enough dives and training beyond your open water certification to know that you really love to dive, and that you love to learn about diving. You’ve been diving in a number of different environments. You’ve learned a number of different skills and specialized dive techniques. And now you are wondering how to get to the next level. Whether the next step for you is to increase your knowledge and skill level for your personal satisfaction and diving safety, or if you want to be able to supervise certified divers and assist with dive training, the PADI Divemaster course is the program for you. You’ll learn about dive planning, management and supervision; the physics and physiology of diving; and a number of other advanced dive topics. You’ll be able to improve your diving skills and challenge yourself with a number of water skills. And you will gain hands on experience by performing a number of roles while assisting with real dive classes and real dive students. Honestly, it just doesn’t get any better than this!
What you can do as a Divemaster
So what can you do once you are a PADI Divemaster? Even if you don’t want to conduct official Divemaster duties, you will be a better diver, and a better dive buddy. Your ability to execute the basic dive skills will be exemplary. You’ll have an in-depth understanding of dive theory and dive management. For a lot of Divemasters, that is all they want. But as a Divemaster, you are at the first level of PADI professional membership and for those of you who are excited about supervising divers and assisting with scuba classes, there is a lot that you can do. Active status Divemasters are authorized to:

Dives 2, 3, and 4 at a 2:1 ratio, under the instructor’s indirect supervision.4. Accompany Open Water Diver students under the instructor’s indirect
supervision during surface swims to and from the entry/exit point and duringnavigational exercises; as well as supervise remaining students when theinstructor conducts a skill.
5. Accompany student divers during Adventure Dives or specialty course divesunder the instructor’s indirect supervision.
6. Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers independently. This also includes conductingthe PADI Seal Team AquaMission: Skin Diver Specialist.

Scuba Diving participants at a 2:1 ratio, after participants have satisfactorilycompleted the first dive with an instructor.

Scuba Diving in a pool or in confined open water.13. Accompany certified PADI Scuba Divers on subsequent dives.14. After completing the corresponding instructor training, conduct: a) Digital

The Fun Part – What you get to do and learn!
You are already a scuba instructor with another certifying agency. However, you know that PADI certifies approximately 80% of the divers in the United States and you’ve decided it’s time to earn a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating in order to open some new doors. The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Crossover program is the way to do this.
The Crossover program acknowledges that you are already a scuba instructor and have some degree of expertise and teaching ability. This program focuses on allowing you to explore the PADI system of diver education, rather than developing basic teaching techniques. The goal is to give you an opportunity to take a close look at PADI – the organization, its courses, programs, educational materials and philosophy.
What you can do as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor
The Open Water Scuba Instructor rating will allow you to teach and certify students in a number of PADI courses. As a Teaching Status Open Water Scuba Instructor, you will be authorized to teach the following PADI courses:

Once you have completed the Open Water Scuba Instructor course, you will be more than ready and prepared to attend your PADI Instructor Examination (IE). The IE is a two day examination conducted by PADI instructor examiners which will include: written examinations on PADI Standards and Dive Theory; teaching presentations in the classroom, confined water and open water; as well as skill and rescue evaluations.
You are allowed to audit an Assistant Instructor course at no charge to gain greater exposure to the PADI system.
Skills/Assessments/Practical applications
You will independently study through PADI Instructor Development Online eLearning and PADI Dive Theory Online eLearning a number of key concepts essential to your development as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. These include: Learning, Instruction and the PADI System; General Standards and Procedures; Risk Management; Marketing Diving; Start Diving; Teaching PADI Specialty Diver Courses; Business of Diving; Keep Diving; and How to Teach the Recreational Dive Planner. You will also complete a Dive Theory Exam.
The staff presentations will include a Course Orientation to introduce you to the PADI instructor development system and will also include sessions on General Standards and Procedures; Open Water Diver Course; Adventures in Diving Programs; Rescue Diver Course; Divemaster Course; and Risk Management.
