One World Dive & Travel Divemaster

The Fun Part – What you get to do and learn!

Congratulations on your desire to become a more knowledgeable and skilled diver! You’ve completed enough dives and training beyond your open water certification to know that you really love to dive, and that you love to learn about diving. You’ve been diving in a number of different environments. You’ve learned a number of different skills and specialized dive techniques. And now you are wondering how to get to the next level. Whether the next step for you is to increase your knowledge and skill level for your personal satisfaction and diving safety, or if you want to be able to supervise certified divers and assist with dive training, the PADI Divemaster course is the program for you. You’ll learn about dive planning, management and supervision; the physics and physiology of diving; and a number of other advanced dive topics. You’ll be able to improve your diving skills and challenge yourself with a number of water skills. And you will gain hands on experience by performing a number of roles while assisting with real dive classes and real dive students. Honestly, it just doesn’t get any better than this!

What you can do as a Divemaster

So what can you do once you are a PADI Divemaster? Even if you don’t want to conduct official Divemaster duties, you will be a better diver, and a better dive buddy. Your ability to execute the basic dive skills will be exemplary. You’ll have an in-depth understanding of dive theory and dive management. For a lot of Divemasters, that is all they want. But as a Divemaster, you are at the first level of PADI professional membership and for those of you who are excited about supervising divers and assisting with scuba classes, there is a lot that you can do. Active status Divemasters are authorized to:

1. Supervise both training and nontraining-related activities by planning, organizingand directing dives.

2. Assist an instructor during confined and open water training.3. Guide Open Water Diver course students on the tour portion of Open Water

Dives 2, 3, and 4 at a 2:1 ratio, under the instructor’s indirect supervision.4. Accompany Open Water Diver students under the instructor’s indirect

supervision during surface swims to and from the entry/exit point and duringnavigational exercises; as well as supervise remaining students when theinstructor conducts a skill.

5. Accompany student divers during Adventure Dives or specialty course divesunder the instructor’s indirect supervision.

6. Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers independently. This also includes conductingthe PADI Seal Team AquaMission: Skin Diver Specialist.

who are refreshing their skills.11. Conduct the skin diving skills segment of the Open Water Diver course during

any confined water dive.12. If qualified as a Discover Scuba Diving Leader, independently conduct Discover

Scuba Diving in a pool or in confined open water.13. Accompany certified PADI Scuba Divers on subsequent dives.14. After completing the corresponding instructor training, conduct: a) Digital

Underwater Photography specialty courses under the direction of a PADIinstructor, and b) Emergency Oxygen Provider courses.

Specialty Instructor Training Course

The Fun Part – What you get to do and learn!

You have your Open Water Scuba Instructor rating. You’re having fun teaching the open water, advanced, rescue and other PADI dive programs. However, your students want to take specialty classes from you so that they are more knowledgeable, more safe, and having more fun diving in new environments or participating in additional types of diving. You enjoy teaching them, but you’re not comfortable with how to conduct the various specialty classes that they are asking for. So what do you do? You earn the Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating of course! The Master Scuba Diver Trainer course is actually five PADI Specialty Instructor courses conducted in an integrated manner over 3 or 4 days. You will learn how to organize, market and conduct the five PADI Specialty courses. By participating in the Master Scuba Diver Trainer course, you will be more comfortable providing the training to your students that they want from you.

What you can do as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer and Specialty Course Instructor

16

2. PADI Deep Diver Instructor3. PADI Underwater Navigator Instructor4. PADI Search & Recovery Diver Instructor5. PADI Altitude Diver Instructor

Skills/Assessments/Practical applications

You will participate in one full day or two evening classroom sessions to learn the purpose and goals of the specialty diver course, explain the standards and procedures from the PADI Specialty Course Instructor Guide, list student diver and instructor equipment requirements, explain the open water training considerations, discuss how to conduct a specialty course to meet all course performance requirements, describe successful marketing and promotional techniques to promote specialty diver training as part of the PADI System, and determine costs involved in the pricing of the specialty training.

You will also have an opportunity to present a knowledge development presentation from the specialty diver course outline as well as conduct an open water teaching assignment and demonstrate all open water performance requirements for the specialty diver course during two days of open water training.

Course Fee

The fee for the course is $500. This includes all classroom, confined water and open water sessions, as well as tanks and weights for all dive activities.

Individual or additional Specialty Instructor Trainer classes are available for $125. Contact the Underwater Phantaseas Course Director for available classes.
