One of the main concerns that teachers have is how challenging it is to
connect with all of their students during the class time. So, many of the
students who ask have questions or concerns might not have the chance to
express them during the session or office hours. However, Piazza enables
students to get answers to their questions online around the clock.
How to register for classes at Piazza site?
1. Navigate to piazza.com/signup.
2. Search for your school in the School Search field.
3. Enter your class name.
4. Click the + Create a new Class button.
5. Enter your course information.
6. Click Create Class.
7. Follow the prompts to add students, TAs, and share the Piazza link with students.
How can you add a Syllabus file to Piazza?
Go to Piazza.
Click Course Page / Add Syllabus.
This displays your computer's file locator.
Locate the syllabus file on your computer and click Open.
This uploads the syllabus file and makes it available to the instructor for downloading, editing and deleting.
Students can download the syllabus file by logging into the Piazza site, clicking on Course Page / Syllabus.
How do I add Course Information/Description to my Piazza ?Go to Piazza.
Click Course Page.
Click the Edit button for Description or General Information.
Add content, then click Save.
Note: Students can view this information by logging into the Piazza site then clicking on the Course Page tab.
How do I manage Piazza folders?Folders are a way of keeping class content organized. They can only be created by instructors and by default, are mandatory at the time of asking a new question. Instructor, can create, edit or delete folders, as well as disable folders altogether. Folders will begin appearing in the Q&A dashboard as content gets posted in them.
Go to Piazza.
Click Manage Class.
Scroll down to Configure Class Folders, then select Edit Default Folders.
Remove folders by clicking remove. You can add new numbered folders by clicking "remove" to the right of homework numbered folders and either choosing a new topic from the list or creating your own. Create new custom folders under Custom Folders.
When finished editing folders, click Save Changes.
NOTE: When someone clicks on "New Post" the folders appear for selection. Folders will begin appearing in your Q&A dashboard as content gets posted in them.
How do I upload files and post link in the Piazza Resources?Go to Piazza.
Click Course Page / Resources
This displays the Piazza Resources page.
To add a link to a Resource folder, click Add Links
This displays the Add Links dialogue box.
Add a link title and URL, then click Post Link.
The link now appears in the Piazza resource folder.
To upload a file to a Resource folder, click Add Files.
This displays your computer's file locator.
Locate the file on your computer and click Open.
This uploads the file to the Piazza Resources folder and makes it available for downloading.
Students access the Resources by clicking on Course Page / Resources.
How do I embed a video in a Piazza post?All users can embed a video in a Piazza post.
First, locate the embed code for the video (example YouTube)
Go to Piazza.
Go to the Piazza Text Editor (Either by clicking "New Post" or clicking "Edit" on an existing post).
This displays the Piazza Text Editor.
Click Insert / Insert Video
This displays the Insert Media dialogue box.
Click on the Embed tab.
This displays the embed code box.
Paste the embed code in the box, then click OK.
This embeds the video in the Piazza Text Editor
Click on the video box to resize the video using the resize handles, then click Post.

How do I create Piazza groups?Instructors can create groups, suitable for private discussions (questions / answers) among members of project teams or class sections.
Instructors can manage student and instructor accounts in each group. They can also specify whether students can join groups themselves or not.
Instructors, can change the visibility after a post has been made, from a class level to a group level, or vice versa.
Instructors can post to groups they do not belong in.
Students need to be in a group to post to it or read posts in it.
Go to Piazza.
Click Manage Class / Create Groups.
Enter a Prefix Group Name and set the number of groups OR Name Groups individually, then click Add
This creates the Piazza groups.
To manually populate groups, select "No" to Allow students to join groups, then Click on the group name.
Enter email address for group instructors (optional) and students, then click Add.
This adds the student accounts to the Piazza group.
When an instructor creates a new post, the "Post To" will have the option of posting to a group.
Only members of the selected group can see and respond to the post.
When a student posts a new question, the "Post To" will have the option to post to the group(s) they have membership.
Only members of the selected group can see and respond to the post.
To allow students to join a group, leave the default "Allow students to join groups".
Students can then go to Course Page / Groups and click on Join.
How does an instructor post a question in Piazza?Go to Piazza.
Click on New Post.
This displays the new post page.
Select Post Type, Post To and a folder to store the post.
Note:
If this a question that you would like a response to, select "Question" as the Type. You can ask a question of the entire class or individual students. Select an appropriate folder to store the contents of the question/answer. You may want
to edit the default folder selections (See How do I manage Piazza folders?)
Enter a Summary for the question, the question details and Posting Options
Note on Posting Options:
By default, students receive an email notification in the form of a digest every 2 hours. The digest contains details on all of the site’s posts made within that two hour period. If no posts are made, no digest email is sent.
However, students have the ability in their account settings to receive no emails, or a daily digest or real time emails.
This posting option, if checked, will send an email immediately to each student regardless of their account settings.
Click Post My Question.
This posts the question on the Q&A page.

How do students respond to a question posted by the instructor?This article is written from a student's point of view.
Go to Piazza.
Click on the instructor's question in the question column on the left.
This displays the contents of the question post on the right side of the display.
Click in the "Student's Answer" box and begin answering the question.
This displays the Piazza Editor box.
Add your answer, select your identity, then click on Submit.

How do I edit the student anonymity settings for my Piazza site?Go to Piazza.
Click Manage Class, then Customize Q&A.
Adjust settings, then click Save Changes.
Note:
By default, students have a choice when posting to "show their name", "post as anonymous to classmates" or "post as anonymous to everyone". If disabled, students will have only 2 choices ("show their name" or "post as anonymous to classmates").
By default, students and instructors can create a private post to an instructor. if disabled, students cannot post privately to an instructor.
How do students post a question in Piazza?This article is written from a student's point of view.
Go to Piazza.
Click New Post.
This displays the new question page.
Select a Post Type, Post To and select a folder to store your question.
Note:
If you want response to your question, select "Question" as the Type. If this is a question posted to the whole class, select "Entire Class" as the Post To.
Posting to the "Instructor" will limit the view of this question to only the instructor's display.
All questions are stored in folders that have been set up by the instructor. Select the most appropriate folder for storing your question.
Enter a Summary for the question, the Details of the question and select your identity.
Note:
If you select your name, it will be associated with the question. If you select "Anonymous to Classmates", only the instructor will see your name
associated with the question. If you select "Anonymous to everyone", no one will see your name associated with the
question.
Click Post My Question.

How do students respond to other student's questions in Piazza?This article is written from a student's viewpoint.
Go to Piazza.
Click on the student's question in the left column.
This displays the content of the question in the right column.
Click in the box marked "the student's answer"

Enter your answer, select your identity, then click Submit.
This will post your answer for the other student.

How do students ask a private question to the instructor in Piazza?If the instructor allows private notes, students can post private questions and notes to individual instructors. Private questions and notes are only displayed on the instructor's display and the display of the student that posted the private question or note.

Click on New Post.
This displays the new post page.
Select Post Type, Post To and select a folder to store your question.
Note:
If you are asking the instructor a question to which you want a response, select "Question" as the Post Type (otherwise select "Note").
Under Post To, select "Instructors". Type in the last name of the instructor in the box and a dropdown list will be displayed to select the exact instructor account. (Note: your site may have multiple instructor accounts)
Select a folder to archive your question.
Enter a Summary of your question, add details, then click Post My Question.

How do instructors respond to a student's private question in Piazza?If you allow the default permission for students to post private questions to an instructor (See: How do I edit the student anonymity settings for my Piazza site?), students can sent the instructor private questions or notes. The only users that can see a private question or note are the instructor and the student that posted the private question.
Note: Students can direct the private question or note to an individual instructor.
Go to Piazza.
Click on the student's private question.
This displays the details of the question.
Click in "the instructor's answer" box.
This displays the Piazza Text Editor.
Enter your answer, then click Submit.
This displays the answer on both the instructor's display and the student's display.

How do I set up a Piazza discussion board for my site?Go to Piazza.
Add estimated enrollment number, then click Create Class.
The first time you click on the site's Piazza button, a Create Class page is displayed.
Create Account, click Continue.
If you do not already have a Piazza user account, you will need to create one.
Your username is your e-mail address. Remember your username / password. You will need your password to add your account to future Piazza discussion boards or to access your Piazza discussion boards at http://piazza.com online or through a mobile app.
If you already have a Piazza account, you may have to confirm the account password.
View Piazza discussion board.
After the class and account have been created, your Piazza discussion board will be displayed each time you click on the Piazza tool.
How do I view Piazza posting statistics?All users can vie the Piazza site posting statistics.
Students can view cumulative student posting statistics.
Instructors can view cumulative student posting statistics and aggregate instructor posting statistics.
Go to Piazza.
Click on View Statistics.

How do instructors and students post a poll?Both Instructors and students can post a poll question to the entire class.
Go to Piazza.
Click New Post.
This displays the New Post page.
Select the Post Type and a folder to store the poll question.
Enter a Summary and the details of the poll question.
Enter Poll answer choices.
Note: Enter the first choice in the choice box then click Add to add more choices.
Set the remaining poll options, then click Post My Poll.
