One million new pilots, technicians needed in 10 yrs: Boeing Washington: Boeing has projected a demand of one million new pilots and technicians to support the expanding demand for new airplane deliveries over the next two decades. According to the “2013 Pilot and Technician Outlook” released by Boeing, by 2032 the world will require 498,000 new commercial airline pilots and 556,000 new commercial airline maintenance technicians. Of this maximum numbers of 192,300 pilots and 215,300 technicians are likely to be required in the Asia Pacific region. The country specific figures would be released by Boeing on September 16 in Singapore. “The urgent demand for competent aviation personnel is a global issue that is here now and is very real,” said Sherry Carbary, vice president of Boeing Flight Services yesterday. India’s first-ever national aviation varsity to come up in Sonia Gandhi’s constituency  July 11, 2013 New Delhi: The first-ever national aviation university in the country would come up at Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, Sonia Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency, to impart complete training to pilots, cabin crew and aircraft engineers. The Union Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, ap proved the creation of this university in the n ame of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as a central university, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari told reporters here. The Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University would be set up on a 26-acre plot of land at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udaan Academy (IGRUA) at Fursatganj. "After the new foreign direct investment norms in India's aviation sector, we have been watching the Indian market," Mehmet Akay, General Manager, Western and Southern India, Turkish Airlines, told Business Today. "At present we do not have an actionable proposal or plan, but the options are there and as soon as a good opportunity comes, our management will not hesitate to invest." Turkish Airlines currently operates 14 flights pe r week from Delhi and Mumbai. Akay, who has been in India for about 18 months now, revealed the airline has been talking to Indian government officials for over a year now to increase the number of seats it has been allotted, as it wants to expand in other Indian metros as well as add flights to its existing network. Flying to 100 countries, Turkish Airlines has the largest network globally. Akay said 80 per cent of its passengers from India were transit passengers whom it carries to other global destinations from its

Air Costa to begin operations next month

Hyderabad: Air Costa, the first ever regional domestic airline based out of India's Southern state

Andhra Pradesh, announced starting no-frills air carrier services connecting Southern cities in a

month's time.

Part of the Vijayawada-based construction group LEPL, Air Costa said it will launch the airline with a

fleet of three E jets from Embraer suited for the regional short-haul connectivity between tier-II and

tier-III cities with the major metros.

Air Costa will have its maintenance based and headquarters at Vijayawada where the aircrafts have

already landed with major approvals in place. The final approval from the Director General of Civil

Aviation (DGCA) is expected in a week or so, said its chief executive officer Captain KN Babu.

The air carrier plans to operate flights to six stations in the first phase in South connecting

Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Vijayawada and expand operations to secondary cities in theNorth and North Eastern region in the next phase after reviewing operations for three months, he

said
