Soprano Carolyn Myers is an experienced music educator and professional soloist. She will offer practical skills for the amateur singer, focused on how to adapt vocal technique for the church choral situation.

Organ Forum/Masterclass Andrew Scanlon

Playing hymns and service music out of the Hymnal 1982, with an emphasis on the most commonly used congregational music in our diocese. The class is designed to enhance the skills of parish organists of all levels, and to equip each participant with practical, musical leadership tools that they can use in their local church to elevate worship to a new level.

Composer Forum Bonnie Duckworth/Frank Tatum

A forum on the creation and composition process in sacred music. Any persons interested in hymn and anthem creation should attend! You need not be a professional composer to enjoy the discussion.

Psalm Singing Lewis Moore

We will explore the many ways to sing the psalter including plainsong, Anglican chant and metrical settings.

Sightsinging John Sullivan

A course in sight-singing and general musicianship based on Kodály methodologies, suitable for singers wishing to improve their aural musicianship and to gain insight into the Kodály philosophy. A perfect workshop for those whose lives include “sweet singing in the choir!”

Service Music from the Hymnal David Leahey

A session on the supplemental section of the 1982 hymnal. The workshop will include a discussion on the purpose of each category and demonstrate some of the unfamiliar liturgical pieces.

Blend: what does this mean? Mike McCarthy

A pedagogical plea! Liturgical Embellishments and Bells Shirley Kuhn & Sally Love

Participants will learn a variety of ways to enhance hymns, service music, chanting, and more using resources on hand or inexpensive hand instruments. The use of handbells will be presented including some basic ringing technique and fun ways to use the bells on festive occasions.

Music Literature for Small Churches Linda Thornton

Music for Small Choirs: a reading session of anthems old and new for numerically challenged choirs. Even if your choir consists of three altos and a bass, there's something for you here. Good church music doesn't have to be difficult!

Tuning the Choir Dr. Janet Brenneman

Engaging and equipping the church choir in leading worship: the philosophical and theological foundations that continue to support the role of the church choir in contemporary worship. Tools and techniques the church choral singers need to effectively serve in leading Christian worship.

2 Motet Rehearsals TBA (24 max) David Leahey

The 'motet' was one of the pre-eminent polyphonic forms of Renaissance music. Come join a small group of singers and enjoy a work from the early period.
