• Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the fifth

largest

• The Earth is divided into several layers which have

distinct chemical and seismic properties (depths in km)

• The planet is home to millions of species, including

humans

• Both the mineral resources of the planet and the products

of the biosphere contribute resources that are used to support the

existence of global human population

• Earth is humanity's common heritage

• The world devoid a single connotation both in context and content

• It has its physical, economic, theological, political, social, cultural and

connotations

• The physical world is often taken as the earth itself

• The physical world can also be tagged as the collection of the earth’s

natural resources (Air, land and Water)

• The physical world is as old as the human existence and civilization

• Politically, the world is the territorial assemblage of the sovereign states

with power over their physical world (Air, land and water).

• Astronauts see one world but no united nations.

• Without the activities of human, the earth can be synonymous with the

world

• Unequal physical endowment of the earth made the world seem multiplex

• Due to human activities the earth has been fragmented into several worlds

• There is one Earth; on it are nearly two hundred sovereign nations.

Superimposed on this planet is the politically fragmented world of human

culture

• Environmental damage always hit those living in poverty the hardest

(UNHD 1998)

• One- fifth of the world population produce and consume four- fifth of

the world products and services

• The other four- fifth produce and consume one- fifth of the world

products and services

• The former one- fifth pollute theirs and the latter's four- fifth environment

combine

• Diverse industrial policies
