The Persons in the Story: Daisy and Donald Oliver

• Donald is 51 years old, works at a bank and is married with Daisy. They have 2 children.They live in a nice house in the suburbs and also own a chalet in the mountains.Donald enjoys eating out, despite his food allergies and he is interested in energy efficiency.

• Daisy is 45 years old, a housewife and part-time shop assistant. She is married to Donald and has 2 children.Daisy suffers from diabetes, tries to do fitness workouts regularly and likes shopping with her girl friends.She is glad that machines support her in her daily household tasks.

The Persons in the Story: Madeleine Cliquot and Greta and Lisa Svenson

• Madeleine is a 75 years old widow who lives on her own in the country. Her 3 children and her grandchildren all live far away from her.She suffers from high blood pressure and needs regular check ups and health monitoring. She is sometimes a little forgetful, but well able to live on her own with some assistance.She enjoys walking and likes to do handicraft.

• Greta is Madeleine’s daughter, who lives in another country. She is a 34 year old successful lawyer, divorced and has one daughter, Lisa. She is always very busy and does not have enough time, so she does not contact her mother very often. Because she tries to spend her free time with her daughter, she automates as many household tasks as possible.

• Lisa Greta‘s daughter is a 12 year old teenager and quite often alone at home.

The Persons in the Story: Frank Rollstuhl and Stefano Stradivari

• Frank is a 60 year old primary teacher, who is handicapped and has to use a wheelchair.He likes orchids and other exotic flowers, which he raises in his automated winter garden. He also likes going to the theatre and taking trips.

• Stefano is a 21 year old university student, who likes music and plays in a band.He lives in shared accommodation in the city, never has enough money and thinks a bicycle is the best transport in a city.

Morning

2020 – One day in the life of Frank, Daisy, Donald, Madeleine, Greta, Lisa and Stefano

It is 6 AM, Daisy checks her blood sugar level, then eats the last two eggs for breakfast. Her health diary and the smart shopping list are updated automatically.

Meanwhile, her husband Donald is late for work and needs a parking space close to his office. He is alerted to one and the parking fee is added to his phone bill.

Madeleine‘s blood pressure is too high so a video conference with her doctor is arranged for later during the day

Greta is planning for lunch and places a short-notice reservation for the best restaurant in the area to impress her business partners and close an important deal

At the same time Stefano, a family friend, is deleting embarrassing online posts and pictures from last night’s party with the identity cleaner …

Frank wakes up to discover a new flower on his favourite orchid and adjusts the remote watering and nutrition system.

Lunchtime

Donald is heading for that same business lunch. On his way he checks whether the restaurant’s menu suggestions are in conflict with his diet and allergies.

Daisy knows she could do with some exercise and has her favourite virtual reality snowboard workout set up for her.

Madeleine joins the appointment with her doctor using a one-click dial-in and learns that she needs immediate treatment.

Outside the Restaurant Greta activates the cocoon to make sure she cannot be reached during her business lunch

On his way to university, Stefano is alerted to a shop with discounts on his favourite fashion brand. He pays for his t-shirts using the billing button.

Daisy is loading the washing machine and the dishwasher and asks her green screen for energy efficient settings and cost-efficient start time.

Afternoon

During her afternoon walk Madeleine‘s blood pressure again increases dramatically. Her daughter, Greta has not responded to the automatic notification, so an ambulance is called.

Frank is at the station on his way to the city and checks whether there is any handicapped seating space available on the incoming train

In town Daisy and her friends buy T-Shirts from the same offer Stefano saw. Stefano receives an extra retro-active buyer’s community discount.

Back in the office Donald is alerted that a friend has arrived at his holiday home and the remote identification system prompts Donald to grant him access.

Donald also triggers the holiday home eco-monitor to check how energy-efficient the devices are running and to get recommendations for replacing them.

Lisa is back home from school where the home entertainment system recognizes her and brings up her personalized and filtered media content.

Evening

Daisy is buying food. She checks the eco-label of the fish and receives recipe suggestions on her smartphone.

Driving into his garage Donald checks his current carbon footprint and his car music library is automatically updated.

Donald goes to his room where his presence is detected. Based on his preferences and his just updated music library , music starts playing

Stefano is late for his lecture Stefano and decides to join the virtual class room at the local café instead.

It‘s Lisa‘s birthday and she gets a robocat. She doesn‘t need to wait for her help from her Mom because the set up process is started for her.

Daisy‘s washing machine and the dishwasher take advantage of the cheap electricity and start their work

Night

It‘s getting late and Frank is leaving the opera. He knows his taxi with space for a wheelchair is already out there waiting for him.

Since the weather forecast is good and the suggestion matches his preferences, Frank books the day trip to a garden exhibition while in the taxi.

Daisy is on her way home too, feeling safe because the streetlights on the footpath have switched themselves on just for her.

Before going to bed Lisa adds her new favourite yoghurt drink to the smart shopping list and sets the delivery time for the next morning

Stefano gives a virtual concert with his friends and band members, some of them joining in from Tokyo

During the night BUTLER takes care of Frank‘s beloved orchids and gives special nutrients to the new flower
