New Oak Hall Upper School Summer Reading Program

One Book, One Teacher – What is it?• The dual purpose of the program: • to match individual faculty members with students who have

similar reading interests • to promote the concept of reading widely and well as a lifelong

pursuit• Choose a book that interests you from the list provided, read it over

the summer, and participate in a group discussion with other students and the sponsoring teacher when we return to school. • The teacher may contact you and your fellow readers over the

summer with questions or discussion topics.

How to Sign Up for a Book:

• This afternoon you will receive an email with a link to the Oak Hall Middle and Upper School Library Wiki “One Book, One Teacher” page. • Sign up instructions will appear on the page along with an alphabetized

list of teachers followed by their email address, the title and author of their chosen book, and a short description of the book.• Please choose the book that most interests you and contact the

teacher using the email address provided to let him or her know you would like to join his or her reading group.• Reading groups will be limited in size to 20 students, so it is in your best

interests to sign up as soon as you can and be prepared to sign up for an alternative book from the list just in case.

• Be certain to type Summer Reading in your email's subject line and be certain that you sign your email with your first and last name and your grade level, so your request is honored.

• Feel free to discuss your book choice with your parents and find out more about it by asking the teacher or looking it up online.• After you contact the teacher, he or she will add your name to a list

with the other students reading the book and contact the group with further instructions.• You will get together with the teacher and these other students to

discuss the book at the beginning of the next school year during a Summer Reading Great Day of Learning.• There will not be a grade associated with this assignment, but your

participation is required.• Check oakhall.org/library for additional required summer reading

assignments and/or suggested reading.
