Your route to a university degree

Who is this programme designed for?This programme is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to undergraduate studies at the University of Amsterdam. The UFP is set at level 3, which is equivalent to A-level standard in the UK.

How long will I study for? This programme lasts one academic year (nine months). The year is divided into three terms of seven to nine teaching weeks and one reading week. You will undertake up to 26 hours of classroom-based study per week.

What will I study? This programme includes English and three academic subject modules. English will be integrated into the teaching of academic subjects, as well as being taught separately for those who need additional support to develop their English language ability.

There are two academic pathways to choose from and you will study the pathway most suited to your chosen progression degree. Academic skills relevant to the specificsubjectareawillbetaughttofullyprepareyouforuniversitystudy.Thepathways explained in the table below.

How will I be assessed? You will be assessed at regular intervals throughout the programme to ensure you are making the progress required to successfully complete the programme. Fullassessmentoftheprogrammewilltakeplaceinthefinalterm.Assessmentmethodologies are aligned to those that will be experienced in the university environment, and include project work, essays, presentations and unseen examination.

Living in

AMSTERDAMFull support is offered by the team at ONCAMPUS to assist youinfindingsuitableaccommodationbeforeyouarrive.

ONCAMPUS offers university accommodation through the University of Amsterdam, and private accommodation through The Student Hotel. As in many other major European cities, the demand for reasonably priced private housing is high, so we recommend you book your accommodation as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

University-managed accommodation The University of Amsterdam is well known for high-quality, relatively low-priced accommodation, in convenient and secure locations.

The housing is spread throughout the city; some rooms are locatedinthecitycentre(fiveminutesfromtheUniversity),others are further away (up to 40 minutes). Rooms are allocatedonafirstcome,firstservedbasis.

All rooms have a bed and mattress, table or desk and chair, wardrobe, bookcase or bookshelves, curtains or venetian blinds and lighting. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge and small cooker(s). Pots, pans, rice cookers or kitchen utensils are not usually provided, but are sometimes left behind by former students. There are also many shops where these items can be purchased.

Rent for single rooms varies from approximately €400 to €550 a month; rent for shared accommodation is approximately €300 to €350 a month. This includes heating, lighting and fuel costs.

The Student Hotel The Student Hotel is privately owned purpose-built student accommodation. The rooms are high quality and competitively priced for this type of accommodation.

The Student Hotel has 2 locations, 1 in the city centre, approximately 10 minutes from the university and 1 in Amsterdam West, approximately 30 minutes from the University.

All rooms are fully furnished with en-suite bathroom, sharedorprivatekitchen,Wi-Fiandflat-screentelevisionwith international channels.

Rent varies from €595 to €925 a month depending on the type of room. Included in the rent is your own bike to use during your time studying in Amsterdam, use of the gym, study spaces, lounges and games area.

The Student Hotel has a reception with 24-hour security, laundry room and restaurant/bar with regular social/cultural events. Rooms at The Student Hotel can be viewed and booked online for one or two terms.

Travel costs from student accommodation to the University

Most students will use their bike to go to classes and this will save you transport costs. You can also take the Metro or tram to the University and costs are approximately €3 per day, depending on where you live.

To help you budget for your time in Amsterdam, here is an example of what you can expect to pay for some of the essentials of student life.

STEP TWO

Our Central Admissions team will review your application.

• We will send you an offer letter which will list any outstanding conditions. We will remove any conditions that have already been met. If we think the course is not right for you, we will suggest an alternative.

• If we have any queries about your application, our Central Admissions Team will contact you for further information.

STEP THREE

To accept your place on the course you will need to meet all the remaining conditions, including payment of the deposit/registration fee or proof of government sponsorship. Only once all conditions have been met, can your place be confirmed, although once the deposit is paid we will hold a place for you.

NEXT STEPS

STEP FOUR STEP FIVEYou will then need to apply for a visa if you require one to study in the Netherlands, you also need to apply for your accommodation at this stage. If you do not have a valid visa, you will not be able to join the course so please make sure you apply as soon as possible.

STEP SIXYou will need to pay at least the first term’s tuition fees before you begin your programme of study at ONCAMPUS.

• WhenyoubookyourflighttoAmsterdamSchiphol Airport, please send us your arrival details by email to [email protected]. We recommend arriving on a weekday before the induction week and allowing yourself enough time to visit your housing corporation to pick up your accommodation keys.

Once you have met all the conditions of your offer, we will confirm your place and send you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

• We will send you pre-arrival information, including how to book accommodation and how to apply for your visa, should you require it.
