IntroductionDuring the summer of 1991 prospecting, geophysical and geological surveys were carried
out over the Three Musketeers Gold Prospect in MacMurchy Township, District of Sudbury, Shining Tree Area, Northern Ontario. This report will document all the results of these surveys and provide conclusions and recommendations. This report will be laid out so as to fulfill all assessment requirements and Ontario Prospectors Assistance Program (OPAP) report requirements, as this exploration program was funded by OPAP.
Location and AccessThis property consists of three contiguous claims numbered 1131391, 1132519,, and
1129712. The claims are located roughly 15 minutes drive east of Shining Tree Ontario (Fig. l and 2) along highway 565 (MacMurchy Township). The extreme NW corner of the group is located right on Highway 565 and the extreme NE corner of the group is located on the shore of Jess Lake. The main baseline to access the interior of the group is also at the extreme NW corner of the block at Highway 565.
TopographyThe majority of this property is covered by low-lying spruce swamp. Some tamarack and
alder swamp also exist. A few pot-hole lakes are present in the spruce swamps. Some higher ground with some outcrop is scattered in isolated areas of the extreme western claim (l 129712), also the very extreme S W corner of claim 1131391 has higher ground and minor outcrop as well.
Property HistoryFairly extensive gold exploration has taken place around Shining Tree since 1911 when
gold was first discovered there (O.B.M. Bulletin No. 39). It appears that the limited work has been carried on the subject properly, probably due to lack of rock exposure. However, on the adjoining Brunel claims, there are four distinct gold occurrences, three of them hosted in quartz veins within separate shear zones. The fourth gold occurrence is within iron formation associated with rhyodacite breccia and agglomerate. Values from the Netherton vein on the present Brunel claims assayed as high as S185.50 gold (S35.00 Au). This vein is roughly 200 ft. long and exists within a shear that has a 4,500 ft. strike length (O.D.M.. GR152).
No evidence of recent exploration work was noted on the present subject property. Old camps appear to have been related to logging operations on high ground near Jess Lake (old sawmill here).
General GeologyAn excellent documentation of the regional geology to MacMurchy Township is given
in O.D.M. Report GR51 by Carter, M.W. (1977). The following description of the general geology has been paraphrased from Carter's report.
Basement rocks in MacMurchy Township are reported to be Precambrian in age. The basement rock is overlain by an initial sequence of metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks. Within this sequence is an alkalic volcanic suite consisting of rocks classified as mafic to intermediate trachyte. A second suite within the sequence (non-trachytic volcanics) consists of

a mafic unit (basalt), an intermediate unit (andesite and dacite) and a felsic unit (rhyolite and rhyodacite). Intercalated within this sequence are ultramafic rocks (komatitic) which are, in some instances, spinifex textured.
Mafic intrusives considered to be gabbroic in composition intrude all of the above mentioned rocks. Post volcanic felsic intrusives, which exist as plugs and dykes, intrude the various volcanic sequences across MacMurchy Township. Later diabase (mafic) dykes cut all of the above mentioned rocks.
Rocks of the Huronian Supergroup (Cobalt Group) unconformably overlie all of the previously mentioned early Precambrian rocks. The Huronian Cobalt Group is, in turn, intruded by Nippissing Diabase.
From a structural standpoint, MacMurchy Township, unlike surrounding townships, does not appear to be extremely deformed. There are a number of major faults and the metamorphic grade is lower greenshist.
Section I
Geology and Prospecting Surveys
-4-
Section l — Geology and Prospecting Surveys
Geological and Prospecting Survey TechniqueInitially prior to conducting any surveys, a control grid was cut across the entire property.
This grid consisted of a base line oriented at 1020 Az. and crosslines, which were cut at 100 m centres along the baseline. Crosslines were oriented 900 to the baseline (0120 Az.). All stations on the baseline and crosslines were placed at 25 m intervals.
Initial prospecting of the property was carried out by Mr. S. Ryan who traversed the entire grid as per traverse direction lines shown on Fig. 5. Prospecting consisted of hand stripping in various locations and selection of samples of interest. Mr. Ryan also traversed between lines in some instances where outcrop was suspected to exist. Considerable time was also spent searching for a vein shown to exist on Carter's map (Map 2365). This vein was not located.
During the course of the geology survey, a similar traverse route (Fig. 5) was followed by the author. All pertinent geological data on the property was recorded using the control grid for orientation purposes. A search for the vein shown on Carter's map was also carried out, but the vein was not located.
Data from the prospecting survey carried out by Mr. S. Ryan and geological survey by the author is presented in Fig. 5.
Property GeologyFairly minimal exposure exits on this property. Exposure is estimated to be 3 59fc
maximum. Thus a substantial portion of the geological picture on the property is subject to conjecture.
Three basic rock types were noted during the course of the geology survey. These were andesite, dacite, and diabase.
Andesite on this property generally has a tan to brown, weathered surface and a grey coloured fresh surface. The unit is aphanitic. In some instances, good pillows are present but usually only partial pillow salvages are noted. Some of the andesite is massive as well. Proximal to Jess Lake and the Jess Lake Fault, the andesite is carbonatized to some extent in certain areas.
Dacitic units have a very light grey to bleached weathered surface and a very light grey aphanitic fresh surface. This unit is somewhat silicified in some instances. On rare instances this unit is brecciated, but for the most part it has a massive appearance.
The third unit on the property is a diabase, medium grained, black on the fresh surface, and magnetic. It exhibits typical diabasic texture consisting of interconnected lathes of feldspar and pyroxenes.
Limited geological data on this properly suggests that the stratigraphy strikes at OSO0 0900 Az. The diabase dyke observed in the western section of the project does not have an exposed contact. However, it appears to strike roughly N-S from interpreted field evidence.
Considering the property's proximity to the Jess Lake Fault, there appears to be very little evidence of structural deformation such as shears seen on the Brunei Property on the east side of Jess Lake. One small shear with quartz and minor fine sulphide is present in the extreme south western portion of the property. A few stringers of quartz and some very fine pyrite mineralization was uncovered in other areas of the property during the prospecting and geological
- 5 -
surveys (see sample descriptions in Appendix). The volcanics for the most part are very fresh looking. Some carbonatization of the volcanics is evident near Jess Lake Fault. The metamorphic grade for this property is also very low, lower greenshist as stated by Carter (MNR GR 152) for MacMurchy Township and area.
Section II
Geophysical Survey
- 7-
Section II — Geophysical Survey
Geophysical Survey TechniqueThe control grid previously described in Section I was utilized again during the
geophysical program. The first geophysical survey conducted over the property was a proton precession
magnetometer survey. Readings for this survey were taken at 25 m intervals along the baseline and grid lines. All readings were corrected for diurnal variation by the looping method.
The second survey carried out was a VLF-EM survey. A Geonics VLF-EM 16 unit was utilized during this survey. Readings were taken facing north along the lines. The Cutler Maine station ( 2tfo Hz.) was utilized during this particular survey.
The results of the magnetic data are shown in contour form in Fig. 3 and a profile map of the VLF-EM data with conductive zones is shown in Fig. 4.
Geophysical Survey Resultsi) VLF-EM Survey
Five conductors labelled A,B,C,D and E are shown on Fig. 4. Two of the conductors are of interest, conductors A and C. It is believed that these conductors are probable bedrock conductors. Both conductors A and C are fairly continuous along strike. Although the magnetics on this prospect are fairly flat, it is interesting to note that both A and C follow two distinct similar changes in the magnetic gradient. Conductor B is similarly associated with a change in the magnetic gradient, but the profile suggests this is a very weak conductor, possibly related to conductive overburden. Conductors D and E are very weak one line anomalies. A conductor also appears to lie just off the northern edge of the property from line 8E to 12E.
It should be noted that the quadrature profile for this property is rather unusual as it is rather flat and almost always negative.
ii) Magnetic Survey ResultsThe magnetic survey for the most part was very flat and showed very minor magnetic
relief. Part of the reason for this is the low magnetic susceptibilities of the units which underlie the property. This is further compounded by overburden which is suspected to be fairly deep, particularly in the southwestern portion of the property. A large bull's-eye magnetic anomaly on line HE and the anomaly on the baseline at 1175E are likely caused by a narrow diabase dyke which strikes across these areas. This dyke was observed during the course of the geological survey. It is present between lines 10E and HE (see Fig. 5). A similar bull's-eye anomaly is present on line 3E, 20 North. No outcrop exists in this area and the cause of this single high reading is difficult to ascertain.
Conclusions and RecommendationsDuring the course of the geological and prospecting surveys, only a few minor quartz
stringers and one very minor shear zone were detected. Very minor disseminated pyrite mineralization was found and the samples sent for assay contained no significant gold values.
-8-
Despite these facts, it is this author's opinion that this property is not totally without merit. Albeit, it is, however, a high risk gold prospect due to lack of information because of overburden cover. The property is roughly 95 9fc covered by overburden. Consequently preliminary exploration techniques are mainly limited to geophysical techniques and/or overburden drilling to develop gold targets. Due to this prospects proximity to a major structural break (Jess Lake Fault) and the presence of gold bearing quartz shear zones on the adjoining Brunel claims, it is very possible that a similar environment exists on the subject property under overburden.
Such shear zones often have a VLF-EM signature such as conductors A and C on this prospect. However, further geophysical surveys would have to be carried out to confirm that these conductors are indeed true bedrock sources prior to any further work being done on them.
The following recommendations should be considered for this prospect:
1) Carry out one or two miles of induced polarization (I.P.) surveys over conductor A and C to confirm that they are true bedrock sources. If the results of this survey are positive, there would be two potential drill targets on this prospect
2) Considering the high cost of exploring this prospect beyond the geophysical stage, it would be advisable for the prospecting group involved in this project to seek an option. The most likely candidate would be the company which controls the Brunel claims to the east. Exploration developments on this prospeci should be monitored closely and when appropriate, this group should be approached.

Pioneered and patented exnlunlvnly by Goonlcs Limited, the VLF method of electromagnelln iiiivnylng has been proven to je B major advance In exploiflllnn geophysical Instrumentation.
Since the beginning of 1905 a targe number of mining companies have found the EM16 system to meet the need (or a simple, light and effective exploration tool for mininggeophysics.
The VLF method uses the military and time standard VLF transmissions an primary Hold Duly a receiver Is then used lo measure the secondary fluid* inilliillng from the local con ductive targets. "This allows a viuy light, one man instrument to do the job. Because of Iho almost uniform primary field, good response from deeper targets Is obtained.
The EM16 system provides the In-phase a nd quadrature components of the secondary field with the polarities indicated.
Interpretation technique has been highly developed particularly to differentiate deeper targets from the many surface indications.
Principle of OperationThe VLF transmitters have vertical antennas. The magnetic signal component is then horizontal and concentric around the transmitter location.
