From The EditorFirst and foremost, thank you for taking thetime to pick up OTG New England. It’s you(the readers) that really make this all happen.
This all started when a couple of us were justsitting around a camp�re, discussing how thetechnology these days tends to keep kidsinside, playing video games, while they have aperfectly good bike rusting away in the yard.Not that there is anything wrong with videogames, or the internet, or the 300+ channelson TV these days, but c’mon. Hey, when I wasa kid, I enjoyed the TV just like the next kid.But between waiting for the TV to “warm up”and the limited programming on the threechannels, it was much more fun to ride bikes, walk to the �shing hole, spend daysmaking forts in the woods, etc......you get the idea. Ok, so maybe an argument canbe made about times changing.......but we still disagree.
No matter the background, EVERYONE enjoys a camp�re. EVERYONE enjoys a fort;us adults just tend to call them tents or campers. Some enjoy “fortresses”, which arecampers that come with everything short of a basement and front yard. Althoughnot everyone wants to handle �sh or live bait, EVERYONE is intrigued by the sport of �shing. Once I convince my wife that a nicer boat will bring nicer �sh, she too, willexperience the intrigue of �shing.
It’s not just about camping and �shing either. Getting out of the house, seeing whatelse is out there, experiencing something new and di�erent, can be so much fun. Gofor a hike, paddle a lake, whatever. Just get out of the house, and change up yourroutine.
Anyway, we thought we would do up a publication that might help promote doingthings outdoors. And here we are. We’re still learning the ropes and taking our lumps(see page 5) so bear with us; none of us have a background in publishing. We’re justeveryday people that speak our mind.
Before I sign-o�, I would like to take a moment to thank a few folks who helped makethis all happen: J.F. from The Economizer, G.S. from Streeter Electronics (don’t knowwhat he saw in me), J. & M. B. how NOT to do things
Alright, this one’s on us. A reader brought to our attention that more proof-readingwas needed, and boy were they right. I even looked it over a few times, hammeringon about, “So what if I missed a comma! Big deal!”. Then my wife looks it over, clearsher throat loud enough for me to hear from across the house, beckons me with herindex �nger (as if she found a curse word I accidently typed into some importantdocument) and points to it (using the same �nger she beckoned me with). Oyyyy,the sight wasn’t good.
New England, that was not what we (I, in this case) were going for. Although someof us tend to “shoot from the hip” and talk in our normal demeanor, it was never ourintent of publishing such language. It is embarrassing and I can only hope it doesnot re�ect poorly on us and our advertisers. Of all the words and letters I had togoof on.....sheeesh. My deepest apologies.
For those who noticed, once again, our apologies,and we hope it does not deter you in thefuture, from picking up ourmagazine while you’re OTG.

NH’s Five Best...... And Five Worst Boat LaunchesHaving lived in New Hampshire for most of my life, and
boating for many years, I have had the pleasure (and displeasure)of visiting many of the boat launches throughout the state. I haveencountered some very good launches, and some very poor launches.For this issue, I have put together a list of the �ve nicest launches and �veof the worst launches I’ve been to (accompanied with the reasons why).
The Top Five.......1 - Lake Winnisquam Laconia State Launch. This is a fairly new launch and it is beautiful. It has two ramps and ample parking.
2 - Squam Lake State Launch. Again, this is a new facility, it’s convenient and clean.
3 - Center Harbor Lk. Winnipesaukee. Lake has plenty of docks and ample parking.
4 - Pawtuckaway Lake State Park. Great ramp and excellent parking.
5 - First Connecticut Lake. Great launch site, ample parking, has docks and a picnic area to boot. It’s a great place to spend the day with the family.
The Bottom Five1 - Turkey Pond. The body of water has great �shing, primarily because nobody wants to drive down to the launch!
2 - Laurel Lake. This launch has a drop-o� that resembles the Grand Canyon. There are pieces of asphalt missing that are the size of a car! More gravel could be put in, but it may change the water level of the lake. The best bet to put your boat in is to bring a crane.

4 - Poole Pond. Once again, great �shing, but no parking. The ramp is uneven and if you don’t get there early, you can’t park. Usually, one person parks completely crooked and ruins it for everyone else.
5 - Lake Warren. Great launch, but parking is tough and turning around can be very challenging. If you get there early, you have a shot; later in the afternoon on a hot day, forget it.
NH’s Five Best...... And Five Worst Boat Launches
3 - Spo�ord Lake. This makes the list, not because of the ramp itself, but for the parking and congestion that goes with it. It’s a great ramp if you have an additional 3 hours to spend on your �shing trip. Those 3 hours will be consumed by waiting for parking and waiting in line to launch.
After visiting all these places, I have seen some rather amusing things, which brings me to my next topic. If you’re bored on a nice summer day, grab your cooler and a 12-pack and go to one of the busier boat launches for the day. You’ll be in for a show. First thing you’ll see is the number of people who don’t know how to back up a trailer. There will always be the family of 15 loading into their 16’ Bowrider. Often, you’ll �nd some great �ghts between husbands and wives. If you’re really lucky, you’ll see the Geo Metro pull up with 2 canoes, four golden retrievers, and �shing rods. It’s like a clown car rolling up to the launch! Next up is the drunks coming o� the water; this is alwaysa good time. I once saw a person load their sailboat onto the trailer withno part of the trailer or tires touching the water! Another thing you willsee (and not believe) is how 3 trucks and trailers, 2 cars, and a mountainbike can manage to �ll 30 parking spots!
Good luck this boating season, be safe, and give the guy a break at thelaunch; you’ll be there someday.

Olympians & Paralympians
OTG New England is proud to be a part of the “team behind the team” for the 2012US Olympians and Paralympians that will be crossing the pond this summer! Wewish them the best, and no matter the outcome, they are truly all winners and we
will be proud to have them representent the USA.
So what is the signi�gance of the number 3540? OTG New England purchased a“stitch” that will be in the American �ag that our Olympians and Paralympians will
be carrying over to London with them. OTG purchased the 3540th stitch in the �ag.
Our �ag is more than stars and stripes. It’s a �ag in which every stitch representsanother American and a symbol of our pride in being the “team behind the team”.
We didn’t buy a stitch just to help build the symbol of pride. Our donationwill provide housing, training and equipment for the most elite athletes in America.
Unlike athletes from other countries, our Olympians receive no gov’t funding.

OTG Shoe Review
Fila Skeletoes Turbo TrainerSo I see these “toe-shoes” are gaining steam in the footwear industry, and thought, “Hey,I’ll try a pair”. I’ve seen mixed reviews and curiousity got the best of me, so using themagazine as an excuse, I purchased a pair to review, and to really see what the rage wasall about.
My review will solely (pardon the pun) be based on the Fila brand; Vibram is the othermanufacturer of “toe-shoes”, in which their shoe has 5 chambers for toes, whereas Filahas 4 (pinky-toe and next toe over share a chamber). Word has it that the Fila branddoesn’t hold a candle to Vibram’s, when it comes to comfort; Fila, however, holds theedge when it comes to price and not stubbing your pinky toe.
About 30 minutes after placing my order, I had run into my �rst delimma: what in theworld do I do for socks? I mean, the only toe-socks I’ve seen at stores were knee-highand rainbow colored. So I look online and they do o�er men’s ankle-cut toe-socks ataround $13/pair. My shoes were coming in the next day and didn’t want to wait untilafter the weekend to get my socks, so I opted to look around locally.
I won’t name the �rst place I stopped (it did rhyme with “Rick’s Sporting Goods however”)but they didn’t even sell this style shoe, nevermind toe-socks to go with them. I had afeeling how this was going to go, so I just went to a department store and bought apackage of ankle socks; I had a plan.
When my shoes arrived the next day, I grabbed a pair of my new socks and cut the graypart of the toes right o�. Then I proceeded to put my foot into the shoe, negotiatingeach toe into their proper chamber. Problem: without the end of the sock attached, allthe sock did was roll up towards my ankle while putting the shoe on. On to the nextbright idea!

I decide to cut “slits” into my socks so I have something to put my toes through. Seemedlegit enough at the time, and it worked out alright. I put both pair of shoes on and, well,it seemed okay. I’ll let it ride.
After wearing them for about 6 hours and was settling in for the night, I decided to takethem o�. My feet were �ne, but there wasn’t much left of the sock that was between mytoes; a few threads maybe? I’ll just go without the socks for the rest of the trial period.
As each day went on, my feet felt more and more comfortable in them, and so did I. Ittook a bit to get over the awkwardness of having each toe being independent of theother, and they were comfortable, as advertised. But for some reason, when I got homeeach day, I was ready to get out of them and I can’t quite say why.
Would I run in them, or go hiking in them? Probablynot in this model anyway. The only thing that separates the sides of your toes from a thorn, a stick,a cactus bush or hypodermic needle is a thin peice ofmaterial. I’m all set with that.
I’m still kinda scratching my head about the “indepen-dent toes” bit though. I mean, just because your toesare free to move, it doesn’t mean you’re gonna peel a beer from a 6-pack and crack itopen with your feet.
All in all, they are comfortable, and you can wiggle your toes in them (and actually seeit happen). Would I stop buying conventional shoes? Nope. And I haven’t tried theVibram Five Fingers yet either. So maybe the verdict is still out on these “minimalist”shoes. Maybe I’ll just wait for the toe-shoes that are impervious to hypodermic needlesand will allow me to peel a beer from a 6-pack and crack it open.
