In 1959, 15,000 unarmed Tibetan women tookto the streets of Lhasa to oppose the violent Communist Chinese occupation of their country. Theysuffered horrific torture, long periods of isolation, and unrelenting religious oppression. The exiledelders, of which only a handful remain, are the last generation of women left to share the story of theTibetan Women's Uprising and to impart their cultural legacy. Airs Tuesday, March 3, at 10 pm

WOMEN OF TIBET: GYALYUM CHEMO - THE GREAT MOTHER is an inspired hour-long journeyinto the spiritual power of motherhood. Set against the backdrop of the Himalayas, WOMEN OFTIBET recounts the compelling life story of Dekyi Tsering, the mother of one of the world's leadingambassadors for peace, the Dalai Lama. During the course of her extraordinary life, Tsering, knownby Tibetans as "Gyalyum Chemo" or "Great Mother," gave birth to 16 children, two of whom wererecognized as incarnate lamas. By following the journey of Dekyi Tsering, the program celebrates theselfless acts and simple gestures of motherhood. Airs March 10, at 10 pm

Masterful at exposing herphotographic subjects, Leibovitz’s own life has been private and protected. Airs Tuesday, March17 at 9 pm

Their exciting and collaborative work not only im-proves the quality of lives around the world but underscores the need for the United States to nurtureits home-grown female talent in these male-dominated fields. Airs Tuesday, March 17 at 10 pm

BETTY FORD: THE REAL DEAL: Betty Ford and her family were a breath of fresh air in the WhiteHouse. The public was treated to scenes of a real American family- funny, casual, enjoying life. Butit was Ford’s ability to be open and honest about her battles with breast cancer and drug andalcohol abuse that attracted millions of Americans to the First Lady.Airs Tuesday, March 24 at 10 pm

CAROL BURNETT: A WOMAN OF CHARACTER: America in the 1960’s and 70’s was in turmoil. The civil rights struggle, the war in Vietnam and the sexual revolution defined a nation in conflict. But at 10 o’clock every Saturday night, in dorms and dens, in living rooms and bedrooms acrossthe country, Americans watched “The Carol Burnett Show.” For 11 years, the wacky performeryelled like Tarzan and won — and sometimes broke — our hearts with her edgy, always sympathetic, characters. A glimpse of something deeper and darker began to emerge in the dramatic careerthat followed her TV variety show. Airs Friday, March 27 at 10 pm

A CLASS APART tells the little-known story of a band ofunderdog Mexican-American lawyers who took their case,Hernandez v. Texas, all the way to the Supreme Court, wherethey successfully challenged Jim Crow-style discriminationagainst Mexican Americans. In the landmark legal case, prosecution lawyers forged a daring legal strategy, arguingthat Mexican Americans were “a class apart” and did not neatlyfit into a legal structure that recognized only blacks and whites. This film dramatically weaves the story of its central characters- activists and lawyers, returning veterans and ordinarycitizens, murderer and victim - into the broader history of Latinos in America during atime of extraordinary change.
