On Saturday, 26 April 2014, Graphic Era University in association with UCOST, USERC, NRDC and Graphic Era Hill University had organised a workshop on Harnessing Intellectual Property & Its Management for Growth & Prosperity on account of World Intellectual Property Day.

The chief guest and other VIP’s arrived at 10:15 a.m in the hall. The occasion started with Almighty Lord Ganesha’s holy mantra

“Vakra Tundaa Maha Kaaya Surya Koti Samaprabha, Nirvighnam Kuru M Deva Sarva Kaaryessu Sarvadaa” by Mr. Girish Lakhera (Faculty, MBA) in order to begin the forth work without obstacles.

Delhi) and Shri Amitabh Mishra ( Dy Manager, NRDC, New Delhi).

More than 150 participants actively participated in workshop.

Thereafter, Dr. Pravin Patil (Dean; Research, GEU) presented the bookey of

flowers to Shri V.K Dhaundiyal (Director General, UCOST), Chairperson.

Dr. Uniyal (UCOST) presented the bookey of flowers to Dr. R. Dobhal (CMD, NRDC, NEW DELHI), Chief Guest.

Dr. Arun Sharma presented the bookey of flowers to Shri Y.D Panwar.

Dr. Kirti Joshi (UCOST) presented the bookey of flowers to Prof. S.

Mr. Ashutosh Mishra (UCOST) presented the bookey of flowers to

Shri Amitabh Mishra. Dr. Kailash Bhardwaj (UCOST) presented the bookey of flowers to

Dr. Sanjeev K Majumdar.

Then at 10:25 a.m, in order to let the darkness go away, Mr. Girish Lakhera invited the chief guests for the auspicious ceremony of lightening of lamp before Divine Mother Saraswati, Goddess Of Knowledge and all the dignitaries and other members accompanied them for this noble cause.

“Learning Never Ends” keeping this in mind the ceremony continued. Then Mr. Lakhera inaugurated the topic and further discussed what actually INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY is.

Intellectual Property refers to the creations of the mind, such as inventions, literary & artistic works, designs and symbols,names and images used in commerce and IP is being protected under law by copyrights, patents etc.

Then he mentioned about the various outstanding achievements of GRAPHIC ERA UNIVERSITY which included Dr. Kamal Ghanshala (Chairman, GEU) who became the recipient of the Best Paper award at the International Conference held at Bangkok for his paper on the use of Information and Communication Technologies in rural India.

He also mentioned about Mr. Arvind Mishra who has been rated in the Guinness Book of World Records for Marathon Lecture which continued for more than 130 hrs.

Then Dr. Kirti Joshi came forward and gladly welcomed all the members’ present there.

She stated the objective of the workshop which was nothing but the “DEVELOPEMENT OF ECONOMY”. Moreover she discussed the contents of the workshop i.e. IPR Registrations and clearing some of the IPR doubts.

She also mentioned about the various delegates who had participated in the workshop and came from all the universities including Uttarkashi, Haridwar, Dehradun and Delhi etc.

Thereby Dr. V. K Tewari (VC, GEU) was being called upon stage and on behalf of GEU, he welcomed all the guests and the participants open heartedly for the Workshop in our campus.

He stated that the recent scenario is of innovation and creativity & so is Workshop being conducted in order to create awareness about copyrights and learn from those who devote to the development of the society.

To celebrate and create awareness among all about IP was the main motive of the concerned workshop.

He told about one of the chap of GEU who got award from the Minister for invention of bomb detecting device. He concluded with welcoming all the innovators especially the youngsters and the dignitaries for showing their presence in this occassion.

Successing Dr. V. K. Tewari, joined Dr. Sanjay Jasola (VC, GEHU, Dehradun). First of all he too greeted the members present there on his own behalf and on the behalf of GEU & GEHU.

He chose to talk only on one topic i.e. Copyright issues of facebook, whatsapp, Wikipedia etc.

He indicated that more than 5 billion people text,tweet, use youtube etc. and this is the main threat to copyrights. Even he brought the fact to the light that we all have been accessing, googling, tweeting etc but still we are unaware of what exactly is copyright.

He explained what is copyright and with leading towards conclusion asked the audience that the next time they work, should take care of copyrights.

Dr. Sanjay Jasola handed over the lectern to the Honourable Dr. R. C Joshi (Chancellor, GEU, Dehradun).

After welcoming all, he stated about IPR and also shared that it is a legal right to increase innovation and we can be benefitted from it.

Then he briefly discussed various IPR’s ie. Copyright, trademark, patent etc. Moreover, he added that he sincerely think that the participants will make the best possible use of this workshop and will make use of trademarks, patents and copyrights etc.

He came to the conclusion invoking that the Chief Guest; Dr. R Dobhal (CMD, NRDC, New Delhi) had made all of them proud since he had been entitled as “VIGYAN PURUSH”.

The dais then came into the fate of the chief guest Dr. R Dobhal (CMD, NRDC, NEW DELHI). After addressing all the guest and members, he brought out an interesting story which revealed that the members of NRDC had planned to do something on large scale but at last when they woke up they came to know that were doing actually nothing and then they planned to do organise a workshop on 26 April.

He thanked GEU for if they do not have GEU as platform, they would not be able to conduct the workshop and were left with nothing but performing the same boring routine work.

He allude that the small countries are growing fast than India because they have protected their IP and have used it legally, on the other hand we people do not consider these small things.

According to him patent filing should be first. Moreover target focused research is not here in India. He focused on “we should work not think about the money”.

Proceeding towards conclusion he added that meeting 20 good inventions and its cultivation by them was the basic aim of this workshop and such workshop will be conducted all over the India.

Further came Shri V.K Dhaundiyal (Director General, UCOST). He greeted all the dignitaries in our mother tongue Hindi which was the source of attraction in the workshop where all dignified people were present.

He stated that knowledge is holistic. We got a market here and in this market we have got commerce and this commerce divided our segments and these segments say whatever you do get it patent.

Knowledge is virtue and this fact is being adopted by the western and eastern countries.

He ended his speech by these sharp and logical words “Ye Surat Badalni Chahiye, Ye Surat Or Seerat Hamare Youth Ko Or Chote Baccho Ko Kitna Aage Le Jaati Hai,Ye Sochne Ka Vishay Hai”.

After this speech Prof. Dr. V. K Tewari and Prof Awasthi presented, Graphic Era University’s momento to Dr. R Dobhal and Shri V.K. Dhaundiyal.

Thereafter Dr. D. P Uniyal was invited to catch hold the podium for

VOTE OF THANKS. He addressed all and thanked Dr. R Dobhal and Shri V.K

Dhaundiyal for their support and also thanked Dr. Kamal Ghanshala, Prof. Dr. R.C Joshi, Dr. Sanjay Jasola, Prof A.K Awasthi.

He also thanked GEU for this is a big and great platform for them and they have been performing various activities on this wide platform.

He thanked the experts of the workshop Y.D Panwar, Dr. S.K Verma, Shri V.K Jain, Dr. Sanjeev K Majumdar, Ms Suvarna

Pandey, Dr. Praveen Patil, Shri Amitabh Mishra, GURUKUL KANGDI, GEU, GEHU, NRDC, UCOST, Students, faculties and last but not the least researchers. Concluding the inauguration session, at last he thanked the institution i.e GRAPHIC ERA UNIVERSITY.

Proceeding vote of thanks, the first technical session started and the first speaker was Shri YASHAWANT DEV PANWAR (Principal Scientist, TIFAC, Post graduate from physics, persuing Doctrate research from IIT DELHI.

He is involved in the activities of TIFAC. He provided encouragement about IP & Innovation System of India under which he covered various IPR’s, need of protecting it, nature of patent information, what is patent and so on.

He further stated that when invention takes place we are not aware about that invention has been done, even we get the benefit of the invention but still we are unaware of the invention.

He focused towards strengthing the IPR due to foreign competitiveness. Also we need to grow new knowledge and make best possible use of that. He added on by saying that innovation is not restricted to product innovation only but it can be process innovation also, all the innovation system need to be integrated with IP in order to be benefitted.

He ended his lecture with a small but very apt quotation “Knowledge - It Is What We Think We Know Already, That Often Prevents Us From Learning.”

Then Shri V.K Dhaundiyal presented the UNIVERSITY’s Momento to Shri Y.D Panwar.

Prof.(Dr.) S.K Verma(Former Dean & Head Faculty of Law,University of Delhi,New Delhi) superseeded the session.She gave an excellent coverage to COPYRIGHT: REGISTRATION PROCESS .She came out with a fact that copyright is not a compulsion,it depends upon whether we do it or not however it is important.She further discussed about software,why IP protection for software is required,what is IP protection of software,software protection in India,scope of protection,license use rights,license agreement etc and with she finished her part of action.

Thereafter Dr.Praveen Patil presented the UNIVERSITY’s Momento

to Prof.(Dr.)S.K Verma as a token of love and gratitude.

The session was further proceeded by Shri Amitabh Mishra (Dy Manager, NRDC, New Delhi).He demonstrated Strategies for Transfer of Technologies.He orated about the various advanced technologies developed.Also that technology development is based on market driven forces and it plays a crucial role in the recent scenario.

After his lecture came to an end Dr.Praveen Patil presented a

Momento to Shri Amitabh Mishra as a token of appreciation and love.

Shri V.K Jain (Dy Manager, NRDC, New Delhi) acquired the podium to deliever a lecture on INDIAN PATENT SYSTEM. He expressed his views by saying that we can obtain a patent and auction it, even we can generate wealth for our country through patent.He brought the fact into light that patent will fall into the public domain after 20 years.In allusion he discussed about patents, industrial designs,trade mark,copyright,geographical indication,patent system objectives,patent act,patent grant procedure and about the inventions which are not patentable.

After delivering the beneficial lecture to all, Shri V.K Jain was being

presented a momento as a token of love and recognition by Dr.Praveen Patil.

Ms Suvarna Pandey (IP Attorney,M/s S Majumdar & Co.,New Delhi) supervened the workshop through a discussion on Disclosure Of Invention for Patent Protection,under which she covered various essential topics like essentials of drafting a patent application,significance of drafting a patent application,patent specification,title of invention,types of claim,elements of claim etc.She winded up her lecture with a valuable quotation “ If you do not claim,you disclaim..”

Thereafter Dr. Praveen Patil gave the University’s Momento to Ms

Suvarna Pandey.

Acceding Ms. Pandey , came Dr. Sanjeev K Majumdar ( Scientific Officer,NRDC, New Delhi ) to expose his theory on Search For State Of Art Searches in the field of Inventions.He told that patent filing is free for which Form 27 is needed to be filed and Patent search is free by NRDC.Further invoked that searching is an art and is never complete.He focused on the need of search,how to search,information from patents,prior art, as these are the important key holes to be considered while filing a patent.Coming towards end he mentioned about the various search engines where we can search a patent and concluded with a beautiful definition of patent which says:

“A PATENT is a award for the INVENTOR and reward for the INVESTOR.”

Dr. Sanjeev K Majumdar was then given a Momento of love and

gratitude by Dr. Praveen Patil.

Coming towards the end of the technical session of the workshop Dr. Praveen Patil (Dean Research, GEU ) holded on the dais and came out with the analysis regarding R&D and Technology Commercialization at Graphic Era University.

He stated the various achievements of the institution mentioning that there are more than 50 faculty members who are involved in research activities.

Adding on he even proclaimed that under graduate students have published 40+ research papers.

With these facts and figures he winded up the workshop in a very organised manner.

After the technical round was over the valedictory session came into presence and Dr. A Pradhan (Chief IPR , NRDC)gave the certificates to the participants for their participation in the workshop.

At the end Dr. Praveen Patil came forward for the vote of thanks and on behalf of GRAPHIC ERA UNIVERSITY and on his own behalf extended a very hearty vote of thanks to all of the dignitaries,participants and speakers for sharing their findings and opinions and spending their precious time with all of us.With this the workshop ended at sharp 5:30p.m.
