WelcomeIt’s hard to believe it’s Easter already, but Iam really looking forward to diving into achocolate egg after giving it up for Lent!

If you love chocolate, there are plenty ofEgg Hunts taking place over the EasterWeekend. Take a look at our extendedEaster Activities feature for a host of otherlocal activities for children this holiday.

Read our special Ordsall Hall feature. I wouldrecommend a visit. It’s great for children -interactive, just the right size to hold theirinterest plus outdoor space for little ones torelease some energy and even take a picnic!

Charity Run season is approaching. If youfancy tackling a small run for a great cause, enter a Race for Life event and join the fightagainst Cancer. Ladies Workout Express givesus a training plan for total running newbies.

Special thanks for our fantastic Easter covershot to local photographer Zenna Barry,Eggs for Education for the loan of theirchick and to Sally and Ben for the loan oftheir son Adam! To see more of Zenna’swork visit www.zen-photographic.co.uk.

Last summer, campaigners and SalfordCouncil unanimously rejected the controversialplans for an incinerator on a former industrialsite in Monton.

However, the developer has appealed that decision and we are now preparing for a Planning Inspectorate Inquiry to be held fromMay 9th at Monton House Hotel, Monton.

The outcome is of paramount importance tothis area.

If the plans for the waste plant go ahead wewould face:-• EMISSIONS - dispersed over a 10 mile

radius in an area that already has a highincidence of respiratory health related problems.

• HGV LORRIES - an extra 1,000 per week travelling from the M60 and the East Lancsand will be taking away toxic waste.

• ODOUR - the anaerobic digester will be burning food waste; this process is alwaysassociated with pungent odour despite claims by the operators to the contrary.

There are ambitious plans to develop theBridgewater Canal from Worsley to Eccles as a heritage/tourist attraction which will attract inward investment and improve thisarea socially and economically.

This would be seriously compromised if thewaste plant is built.

Please support your local community. Weare fundraising now to pay for legal adviceso that our arguments can be as effective aspossible. For more information go towww.greenlaneecodump.org

Selling tips: Getting the price you want for your car

You've loved it, taken care of it, serviced it religiously and cleaned it come rain or shine. Now it's time to sell your car. So what shouldyou do to get the best price?

Getting your car ready for sale is essential.Clean the car inside and out and make sure it'stidy. It's also worth getting a new MOT as thissays a lot about the car's basic condition.

Consider a full, professional valet service. It can really make a difference to the price andhow easily you can sell the car. Repair anyminor paintwork damage or simple mechanicalfaults too.

Now you're ready to market your car, so hereare some tips for a stress-free sale.

1. Price your car realisticallyThis is vital if you want a quick sale. Check theprices of similar cars in popular classified admagazines or online.

2. In adverts, stick to the relevant facts Describe the car as accurately as possible.Quote the year/number plate, how many monthsare left on the MOT and where you are based.

3. State the car’s conditionSay if it's being sold forspares only, or it requiressubstantial repairs, and include this on the receiptonce you've agreed to sell.

4. Have all documents and history handyKeep receipts for work carriedout. Have all MOT certificatesand service records to hand.A fully-stamped dealer service record adds valueand don't forget to handover all relevant documentswhen you sell!

5. Check the buyer is insured to test drive the car Your own insurance may cover you. Always gowith them and avoid becoming a victim of cartheft – if you change seats part way through, take the keys with you and hand them overwhen you get back in the car.

6. Build in a margin for hagglingThat way the buyer's happy and you still getclose to the amount you want.

7. Provide a 'Sold as seen, tried and approvedwithout guarantee' receipt. Note, no wording on the receipt is foolproof.

8. Get paid!Cash is always the best way to be paid. If you are given a personal or building societycheque, wait for it to clear in your bank beforeyou hand the car over.

Finally, don’t forget to tell the DVLA that yourcar has changed hands. You don't want to belanded with the new driver's future offences orconvictions. Simply follow the instructions on theV5/registration document.

Rick Tsang from Chips Away shares his top tips for asuccessful car sale.

I was always a fairly keen runner. First atschool, then at the gymand finally on the roads.I did a couple of GreatManchester 10Ks andran 2-3 times a week. Then I started to getpains in my legs that

seemed to be exacerbated by the running, and was diagnosed with early osteoarthritisin my lower spine. I resigned myself to thefact that my running days were over.

Some 18 months later I was seeing the wonderful physio, Vickie Cork at the gym Iown and happened to mention my backproblem and how much I missed running. She assessed my posture, showed me someexercises to do and suggested I start somegentle running.

I am now back running with a vengeance! I started with a Race for Life at Heaton Parklast summer along with some of the ladiesfrom the gym and got the bug again. Sincethen, I have run numerous 5K and 10K racesand am now looking forward to a couple of10 milers in the next month. I’m not fast,

but I really enjoy it. And my back barelytroubles me now.

I’m not alone. Talk to anyone who runs regularly and they’ll tell a similar story. Howit destresses them, beats depression, boostsenergy and burns off the pounds.

At the beginning of January, we started anabsolute beginners’ running club at the gym with the aim of being able to run the Great Manchester 10K in May. We beganvery gently – alternating one minute of slow jogging with three minutes of brisk walking, for sixteen minutes three times a week. Initially apprehensive, everyone was surprisedhow easy it was and felt the now familiar“runners’ high”.

If you want to give it a go, the key is to startslowly, and to build up gently. Try followingthe 10 week beginners’ running plan below.

There really is no need to push yourself to the point of exhaustion, which can be dispiriting and risks injury. Instead, take it ata pace that allows you to enjoy the experienceso that you will really look forward to getting those running shoes on again!

i-Lipo™ is the latest in laser lipolysis, offering you a way to achieve inch lossand body contouring with no pain, no needles and no down time.

How does it work?

The i-lipo uses a low level of visible red laser light to stimulate the body'snatural processes that empty the stored fat contents inside fat cells.

The laser energy creates a chemical signal in the fat cells, temporarilyopening pores in the cell wall through which the fat contents can escape. The contents are then transported around the body to the tissues that willuse them during metabolism to create energy. Thus i-Lipo is not creatingany unnatural reaction in the body nor does it affect or damage any surrounding structures such as skin, blood vessels and peripheral nerves. This metabolism of the contents permanently removes them from the bodyleaving smaller fat cells and giving you inch loss.

i-Lipo : The intelligent alternative to liposuction

i-lipo works on thighs, buttocks, stomach, calves, knees, arms, “lovehandles”, hips, chin, man breasts and baby bulge. Equally effective on both men and women.

What Svelte Body clients say....Ann from Worsley - Oct 2011:-I lost several inches on my first session which amazed me from such a simple, fuss free and painless procedure.

After 8 sessions I lost the equivalent of a dresssize around my stomach area. Free use of the power plate was an added bonus & helped tone the rest of my body.

In just 4 weeks I feel more comfortable in my bikini & its given me the incentive I need to keep on exercising. The therapists were always friendly, accommodating & flexible on timing of appointments.

From Louise - Boothstown - Oct 2011:-I had been fed up with my hip & thigh area for aslong as I can remember. Size 8-10 in clothing, Idoubted that i-lipo would have any effect.

After 5 sessions the results began to show & my clothes proved it. The appearance of the area treatedalso improved - Amazing ! Over the 8 sessions I managed to treat both areas & lost a total of 11 inches. My clothes feel so much better & I am feeling much more confident wearing them. I am really pleasedwith the results & would recommend you give it a try. After all, if there is an answer why suffer !

Brought back to life! Following a major restoration programme, OrdsallHall, Salford’s “hidden gem”, re-opened to the public in May 2011.

The Hall has been owned by the City of Salfordsince 1959 and Salford City Council, along with Salford Community Leisure has driven the regeneration project with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It is has been a very busytime since we re-opened and we have welcomednearly 30,000 visitors through the doors.

Ordsall Hall was first recorded in 1210 and is a remarkable survivor! Since being built it has hadmany uses. It has been home to medieval gentry,Tudor nobility, butchers, farmers, an Earl, an artist, priests, scout troops, mill workers, cows and severalghosts! When built it would have been surroundedby fields and farmland – a bit different from theview from here today!

The existing building dates back to the 1360s.This makes it one of Greater Manchester’s oldestbuildings. It was initially built by the Radclyffefamily who were an influential and important localfamily with close links to the monarchy. It is saidthat Margaret Radclyffe (who died in 1599) was alady in waiting to Queen Elizabeth I.

The £6.5million restoration has brought the buildingand the grounds back to life. From the highly decorative Great Hall through to the Star Chamberin the oldest wing of the house, you can unearththe story of the Hall and soak up the atmospherein historically re-created room settings.

Amir Khan Opens Salford City College Boxing GymWorld Boxing Champion, Amir Khan, wasthe guest of honour at the grand opening of Salford City College’s Walkden Sixth FormCentre Boxing Gym in March 2012.

Khan has a strong affiliation with SalfordCity College after working in partnershiptogether for two and a half years. In the past, the college has utilised the facilities at AmirKhan’s Bolton-based boxing gym, GlovesCommunity Centre to teach college studentssports lessons and enrichment. This partnershiphas led to Amir and Gloves generously donating an entire suite of top of the rangeboxing equipment to Walkden Sixth FormCentre, to be used in their on-site boxing gym.

Khan said; “I’m extremely proud to havehelped to develop the boxing gym here atSalford City College, and to be able to provideopportunities for students and members ofthe wider community to get involved in the

sport. It’s a brilliant gym, with great facilities,I’m really happy we could be involved in thisproject.” Amir also commented on what abrilliant achievement it is for Salford CityCollege to have their own boxing gym facilities.

Phil Arbelo-Dolan, Sports DevelopmentManager at Salford City College thankedAmir and Gloves Community Centre for theirgenerous donation; “Without the help andsupport Salford City College has receivedfrom Amir and the team down at Gloves, ushaving our own boxing gym would bemerely a pipe dream. We are extremelygrateful for their generous donation andhope to continue our partnership going forwards. Having our own boxing facilities at Walkden Sixth Form Centre enables us toeducate students and community membersabout boxing, giving them the opportunityto learn about the sport whilst using excellent facilities.”
