Let's take a step back and imagine the scene fromthe other side...

Imagine I have been hanging around yourhouse all day messing with your things, cleaning, and cooking.

You are sitting quietly in your living room, and I approach with a smile and yourname.

I look vaguely familiar and friendly, so yousmile back.

Then, though you must have missed someof the words, it seems that I'm asking youto take your clothes off and take a showerwith me.

How many of you would say "yes?"

Dining with Ambersby Deirdre Thorton, PAC Mentor

What is your most significantmemory of sharing a meal withfamily, friends, or others? Whatwas the occasion? What was onthe menu? Were you at home, ina restaurant, or somewhereelse? It is likely that you have astrong memory for particularevents because the socialinteractions, culinary sensations, and atmospherestruck you at an emotional level. Sharing a meal, in most cultures, is important, notonly for nourishment, but also for socialengagement and celebration. When a person livingwith dementia (PLwD) experiences brain changesthat affect their participation in this important dailyactivity, adaptations can be considered to promotea meaningful experience that satisfies physical andemotional needs.

I'm Sorry...by Cheryl Buchholtz, PAC Mentor To my beautiful, compassionateaunt who was like a mother tous! You opened your home andyour heart to us for many yearsas we grew up. The last day ofschool, I would get ready for dadto drive us to Alliston to stay atyour place for the summerholidays. I couldn't wait to getthere to see what you had bought for me fromFuller Brush! We could, at that time, eat off of your floors theywere so clean. Buster was the luckiest dog inAlliston; he was so loved with cooked liver everynight. (I still remember that smell. Yuck!) He wasbrushed and vacuumed daily and even had his owncouch. I remember the birds singing while youcleaned their cage.

The 5th Dementiaby Serene Meschel-Dillman, Director

Where does one find theinspiration for the subject of adocumentary?

For me, of all places, it was atmy annual mammogram withDr. Ross Goldberg. WhenDr. Goldberg and I weremaking the small talk that's necessary to getthrough the examination, he suggested that I havea look at a band made up of musicians andsingers, all of whom are living withneurodegenerative diseases.

I'm 55 years old and have had little exposure todiseases like Alzheimers and Parkinsons, so I wassomewhat apprehensive. Documentaryfilmmaking is always a labor of love. It is adiscipline that pays almost nothing, makes verylittle in the end, and requires years of passionatededication to see the project through. I would haveto be convinced that the story of these intrepidmusicians would be worth the time and effort.
