Frontier (particle) and nuclear physics • Initial thoughts for accelerators for particle physics …

• Must align with European Strategy for Particle Physics:

– Present programme aligned with present EU strategy – EU strategy update presently being planned:

• Process to conclude 2020; – For PP, STFC accelerator strategy can also be seen as preparation

for/input to the EU strategy update

• Big-picture issues: – Energy frontier:

• ILC, CLIC, FCC, LHeC, CEPC, AWAKE, MC – Intensity frontier/neutrinos:

• T2K-II/HyperK, LBNF/DUNE, nuSTORM • Acceleration and targetry

– Novel accelerators, synergies with nuclear, medical, energy, etc. 6

This community meeting • Short presentations to introduce what the panel

knows about the various projects

• Discussion of: – Facts: timescales, internation and national involvement … – Accelerator-science impact, importance, UK leadership, … – Organising principles:

• E.g. alignment with European Strategy for PP or NuPECC long-range plan …

– Input to help panel finalise the draft contribution to the roadmap
