SNAPDRAGON’S JOKE
My wife asked me to buy ORGANIC vegetables
from the market. I went and looked around
and couldn't find any.
So I grabbed an old, tired looking employee and said,
"These vegetables are for my wife. Have they been
sprayed with any poisonous chemicals?"
The produce guy looked at me and said,
"No, sir, you'll have to do that yourself."

East Gippsland Shire
This Wednesday you can join East Gippsland Shire Libraries for this year’s National
Simultaneous Storytime event. At 11am on Wednesday, May 27
Cr Natalie O’Connell will read Whitney and Britney, Chicken Divas written and illustrated by
Lucinda Gifford and published by Scholastic Australia. Cr O’Connell will be one of thousands of people across Australia reading Whitney and
Britney, Chicken Divas at the same time. Families can join in from home by heading to council’s You Tube channel, EastGippyTV,
or Facebook page, EastGippyShire. Last year was the most successful National
Simultaneous Storytime to date with almost 1.4 million participants at over 11,550 locations,
Senior Library Programs Officer Jane Wembridge said the COVID-19 restrictions on
social gatherings won’t dampen the day. ―We’ve been conducting virtual Rhyme Time and Storytime sessions during the lockdown,
so children who would normally come to sessions at our six libraries can still enjoy
being read a story.

$3 MILLION BOOST FOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS IN EAST GIPPSLAND
“We need further investment by all levels of government in quality infrastructure
that provides lasting community benefits, such as improving road safety,
growing the visitor economy and encouraging people to be more physically active, Earlier this month, the Federal Government announced it would provide
$448.5 million for regional economic recovery projects; $149.7 million to support
wildlife recovery and habitat restoration; $27.1 million to strengthen
telecommunications; $15 million for salvage timber operations; and $13.5 million
in additional mental health support.
Allocations to Gippsland councils through the new Local Roads
and Community Infrastructure Program are:
Wellington Shire Council $3,156,576 East Gippsland Shire Council $2,994,961 Latrobe City Council $1,700,085 South Gippsland Shire Council $2,384,531 Bass Coast Shire Council $923,666 Baw Baw Shire Council $1,795,027
ALPINE RALLY OF EAST GIPPSLAND
LOOKING GOOD FOR 2021
The Alpine Rally of East Gippsland organisers have been meeting on Zoom over the last month and draft plans
are taking shape for the centenary running of this iconic event in 2021 Australia's Alpine Rally is one of the oldest surviving motor sports events in the world. Only the french Grand
Prix, the Monte Carlo Rally, Pikes Peak Hill Climb and the Indianapolis 500 have been running for longer Australia's Alpine Rally continues to attract fields of 100 cars and is easily the most popular rally in Australia. Crews come from every state and now internationally too compete and take up the unique Alpine challenge.
For most, the aim is not o win, but to finish an achievement in itself. The event was shortened in 2019 by fires and rain on the one weekend but still managed to bring over $ 3 million of economic benefit to the East
Gippsland region. One of the big changes for 2021 will be an increase to three and a half days with the event starting on a Thursday afternoon and finishing Sunday afternoon. This means the distance covered has had an increase too. Total distance will be just over 12ookms with about 650 kms of that being competitive distance. This may even include at least one stage of over 60 kms. Another exciting change is that the Rally will visit Omeo just as it did in 1921, we even have an exciting Shire road stage within walking distance of the town
center a real treat for spectators. This also means the inclusion of some of the best high country, mountain rally stages in Australia. The event will once again be based in Lakes Entrance and include many of the forest areas
around the communities of Bruthen, Nowa Nowa and Orbost that have become firm favourites with the competitors and spectators alike. Planning is very much at a preliminary stage at the moment as we working with the team at DELWP in East Gippsland on what roads are available to us after the devastating bushfires
that destroyed much of the region earlier alike. Stay informed over the coming months on what will be the biggest and best ever Alpine Rally of east Gippsland,
our website will be updated regularly with latest information. www.alpinerally.org.au
