May 1997: Assigned PT Patra Drilling for Loadout of a Helirig in Cheribon, Indonesia. The Helirig was broken down to max. 10 m.t. pre-slinged packages and loaded on barges at Cheribon for transport to West Papua, Indonesia.The packages had to be placed in correct order for re-assembly at site, with sufficient “flyway” to be flown directly off the barges by “flying crane” helicopters.

Nov.1997–Febr. 2007, Cont’d. The barges were towed as far up river as possible to reduce flight distance to site for transport to the drill site in the jungle on the slope of a mountain. Drought in the region delayed the operation by 3 months.

Nov.–Dec.1997: Assigned to British Gas, Indonesia. Supervised de-mobilization and loadout of a land rig installed on two grounded barges placed on gravel pads. Had been used to drill exploration wells in the tidal zone in the Tenggu Gas Field, Bintunu Bay, Irian Jaya. (Now West Papua)

Jan.1998-May,1998 : Assigned to Total E & P Myanmar as Marine Superintendent at the Yadana Gas Field offshore Myanmar. Tasks were, among others:- Preparation of Marine Operations Procedure for the field.- Attendance in the field during Hook-up phase.- Attending during positioning and move of rigs and barges in the field.- Inspection of an Injection Barge at the pipeline landing at Kanbauk, Myanmar.- Training of local Marine Personnel to take over day to day operations On completion the field was shut in, awaiting completion of the Power station in Thailand that were to use the gas.

April-May 1999: Acted on behalf of Cairn Energy, Al-Gosaibi and Indian Authorities. Investigated the cause of capsizing and sinking of the AHT “Britoil 2” offshore Godavari, India, with loss of four lives.

June.2000- Dec.2000: Assigned to PT Total Indonesie, Assessing and training

Marine Personnel in preparation for establishment of a Marine Dept.

Jan.2001–Sept.2001 : Assigned to PT Total Indonesie, as Marine Advisor / Head of Methods and Safety at their newly established Marine Department in Balikpapan.

Operation was in the Mahakam Delta and near shore outside the delta, with over 200 boats and barges in activity, incl. numerous small Speed boat for personnel transport, Sea truck for light cargo and personnel, small tugs for towing supply barges and moving the Swamp rigs in the delta. (5-800 Bhp)

There were a number of LCTs used for material transport and other tasks, like fuel supply. Also various Contractor boats, barges and LCTs used for all manners of tasks, incl. pipe laying, dredging, well stimulation, fracking, coiled tubing and wire line work-over etc.

Outside the delta the operation were more conventional Offshore style, with Jackup and Semisub rigs, offshore construction barges, supply vessels etc.

The production was mostly gas, which was converted to LNG for export to Japan from the Bontang LNG Processing Plant to the north of the delta. Associated Condensate and Crude Oil was stored and loaded onto tankers from a single SPM at Senipa Terminal at the coast to the South of the delta.

My tasks were:- Training Total’s Marine Personnel in vessel operation, inspection and Marine

operations, incl. rig moves of both the Swamp Rigs, Barges and Offshore rigs. - Ensure that the Mooring Masters at Senipa had proper training and equipment to

handling up to 150,000 DWT tankers at the terminal, incl. taking them for simulator training at MPA Training Center in Singapore.

- Holding seminars on Risk Assessment and how to stop fuel theft in the Delta.- Arranging Safety Training Course for the mostly Bugis crews on the boats working

in the delta, many of whom could not read, or understand Indonesian very well.- Prepare and update Marine Procedures and Manuals. - Prepare specific Procedures for every Rigmove, or Marine Operation being

performed on behalf of Total.- Prepare Tender documents and assist in the selection of boats, rigs and barges to be

used both in the delta and offshore. - Attend any difficult Marine Operation to ensure procedures were followed by both

Contractors and Total personnel. Float-over of a 4,500 structure in a fast flowing river was one such operation.

- Concept development for vessels of various types to improve safety and efficiency for various in-shore and offshore operations conducted by, or on behalf of Total.

- Source a suitable barge to be converted as an Accommodation barge to be used by Senior Supervisors, during an upcoming major construction project in the delta.

May, 2003: Assigned to Halfdan Recovery Team, Sembawang Engineering:Attended as part of a large “Recovery Management Team” from Noble Denton Singapore, with assistance from the London and Jakarta office. Background: During loading of a 5,700 m.t. Deck Module on the Dockwise vessel Teal at Sembawang Shipyard, Singapore. The ground inside the quayside wall had given way, causing the skid shoes to collaps. The module landed half way onto the deck of the transport vessel, half way on the wharf and off canter (I was not involved in the original skid-on operation)Teal’s crew pumped ballast continuous for 57 days to maintain the vessel deck level with the wharf, within a tolerance of +/- 5 cm. at all states of tide.We acted on behalf of Sembawang Offshore Engineering, who had built the module and was responsible for the loading operation. The module was successfully loaded on the vessel, but still out of alignment as we build new skid beams in a very innovative, trick and dangerous operation, which was completed in 30 days from our involvement started.

Nov.2004-Febr.2006: Assigned to Talisman Malaysia, (“Call out Contract”)Acted as Marine Advisor at their Kuala Lumpur Office when required to:- Prepared Rig move procedures and attended pre-move meetings.- Plan Marine Operations and advice on best practises.- Prepare Tender specifications for vessel to be taken on charter and assist in assessing

proposed vessels for selection.- Prepared vessel Check lists for inspections on all vessels to be chartered, or for

regular inspections during the charter period to ensure that the standard was maintained.

- P&I Entry Survey for FPSOs & FSOs converted in Singapore (8 units)- This included Operational Risk Assessment for the P&I Club. - Performed Sailaway survey on the units. (On behalf of SBM only)

- Temporary Master on Drillship Energy Searcher, working in Gulf of Thailand.Introduction after arrest, layup and change of ownership. (French speculators)

Vietnam flag AHTS “Vung Tau 01”.- Loss Prevention Studies for a new Pulp Mill in Siak, Riau Province, Indonesia.

This included warehousing at Mill site, Road transportation to river port, storage, loading operations and barge transportation to off the river mouth, loading and stowage on ocean vessel.

- Loss Prevention Study for a Pulp Mill under construction in Tg. Redeb, Berau, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, covering discharging of machinery from ocean vessels off the river mouth, barge transport to improvised offloading facilities along the river bank, temporary storage and transport to mill site.

- Assigned by freight forwarder Rohde & Liesenfeld as Cargo Supervisor in the initial construction phase at the same construction site in East Kalimantan, Indonesia,

- Performed Audit of Essar Oil Ltd. incl. Management Structure and Operating Procedures, at their HQ in Mumbai and Operating office in Gujarat on behalf of London Underwriters.

- Carried out Condition Survey for Insurance purposes on the Drillship “Essar Discoverer” and Jackup “Essar Explorer” operating offshore Gujarat, India, on behalf of same Underwriters.

- Carried out Condition & Operational Readiness Survey, incl. Operational Risk Evaluation on behalf of East of England P&I Club on newly upgraded “FPSO II”. To be moored in 1400m. WD offshore Brasil, using composite chain-wire-polypropylene mooring arrangement. (First in the world?)

- Condition Survey for Insurance purposes, FPSO Lalinda, operating in Selat Lalang, Riau Province, Indonesia. Moored with Yoke at a fixed structure in shallow water.

- Arbitration Case. Expert Statement: Evaluation of Whether Standby claim by Hyundai for Pipe laying and Trenching spreads working off Vietnam.

1978-1980: ATWOOD OCEANICS Inc ., Houston, Texas. Captain, Drillship “Fredericksburg”. Working in Gulf of Thailand, Philippines, in the Indonesian part of the Natuna Sea bordering Vietnam EEZ and off the Andaman Islands, India. Febr. 1980: Sold to Atlantic Drilling (Ben Line) Glasgow. Served as temporary Master on “Tropic Sands” to introduce a new Liner service from Singapore to Irian Jaya (now West Papua) Indonesia.

Served as temporary Master on “Geena”. Blockade breaking on trips between Karachi and Chittagong via Colombo, v.v. Since Pakistan was broken up there had been a problem with trade between the two parts, West & East Pakistan. (Now Bangladesh)Cargo was cotton in bales one way, cotton fabrics, matches, hides and shoes etc. the other.The vessel was owned by a cotton growing and milling family in Pakistan, but managed by family members in Dubai. (Cotton fields were in the West, while the Mills were in the East)

From Sept. 1974 :Served as Freelance Marine Consultant & Surveyor through Noble Denton & Associates, Singapore. (Still through Coastwise Shipping).Performed all kinds of Marine Survey, mainly as Warranty Surveyor during Rig Move, Towage and Load-outs, incl. Heavy lifts loaded on small and simple West India Line vessels in Japan for Saudi Aramco’s Gas Gathering Project in Saudi Arabia.
