Questions and wrap-up
Future Schedule
Wednesday, July 17th – CHP – Case study Doug Fox with Omnova
Wednesday, August 14th – Fans / in conjunction with OMA Energy Resources, Energy Group @ 8 am
Wednesday, September 18th – Site tour / CHP & WER
Wednesday, October 19th – Pumps
Future dates - TBD
Buckeye Power
Distribution utilities – investor owned (AEP, FE, DP&L, Duke), municipal (ex. Cleveland Public Power, Wapakoneta), rural electric cooperatives
Municipals may aggregate purchasing or own generation through AMP
Cooperatives similarly aggregate purchasing or own generation through Buckeye Power
Buckeye Power already does load management (53 MW in summer, 100 MW in winter bid into PJM)
Efficiency program
C&I – Offer 50% cost-share of an audit up to $2,000
Offer another 50% of implementation costs up to $3,000
Prescriptive lighting
T12 to T8
HID (ex., 400-Watt metal halide) high-bay fluorescent
Open to idea of bidding in efficiency resources, not committed to it
PUCO Rule and Legislative Changes
Combined Heat & Power
Stand-By Rates
If your CHP system meets or exceeds your electrical load (meaning, you could potentially export electricity)
OMA Energy Group has submitted comments to the PUCO
Reserved power
AEP – “Standby Service”
First Energy – “Partial Service”
Duke – “Generation Support Service”
DP&L – we believe they just use the standard offer
Net Metering
Allows for over-generation to be credited to account
kWh or $ is credited within billing period (part of the debate)
Consider shift differences for manufacturers
Definition of micro-turbine specifically included Net metering used to be solar and
wind focused
OMA Energy Group submitted comments to the PUCO Additional PUCO comments just filed
recently
Utility Incentives
Governor Kasich’s Energy Pillar / SB 315 adjustment to SB 221 CHP and WER to be included in energy efficiency
resource standard PUCO considering counting methodology
Complicated – several methods (Mass, ACEEE, SWEEP) and variants off these methods
OMA Energy Group will receive data & recommendations from our staff
Incentive from utility could tip the scales for CHP development Approximately 20%+ of system cost
Much less expensive generation, 80% cost share from the manufacturer
No utility has pro-actively starting CHP-specific programs creates issues, burden on mfg OMA Energy Group intervenes in efficiency
cases, requests
SB 221 and 315 critical to CHP
