The Product registration key is a valuable document and must be stored in a safe place. This key is necessary forexample to register the produkt on McCULLOCH's website or unlock the robotic lawnmower in the event of a lostPIN code. The product registration key is provided in a separate document in the product packaging.

If the robotic lawnmower is stolen, it is important to notify McCULLOCH of this. Contact your local McCULLOCHrepresentative and provide the robotic lawnmower's serial number so that it can be registered as stolen in an interna-tional database. This is an important step in the robotic lawnmower's theft protection which reduces interest in thebuying and selling of stolen robotic lawnmowers.

The product's serial number consists of 9 digits and is shown on the product rating plate and packaging.

1.2 Product descriptionCongratulations on your choice of an exceptionally highquality product. To get the best results from yourMcCULLOCH robotic lawnmower requires knowledge ofhow it works. This Operator’s Manual contains importantinformation about the robotic lawnmower, how it must beinstalled and how to use it. As a complement to thisOperator’s Manual, there are information movies withinstructions available on McCULLOCH’s website,www.mcculloch.com.

Keep in mind that the operator is responsible foraccidents or hazards occuring to other people or theirproperty.

McCULLOCH has a policy of continuous productdevelopment and reserves the right to modify thedesign, appearance and function of products withoutprior notice.

1.2.1 CapacityThe robotic lawnmower is recommended for lawn sizesup to maximum capacity listed in the Technical data onpage 48.

How big an area the robotic lawnmower can keep cutdepends primarily on the condition of the blades and thetype, growth and moisture of the grass. The shape of thegarden is also significant. If the garden mainly consistsof open lawn areas, the robotic lawnmower can mowmore per hour than if the garden consists of severalsmall lawns separated by trees, flower beds andpassages.

A fully charged robotic lawnmower mows for 60 to 80minutes depending on the status of the battery andlawn. Then the robotic lawnmower will charge for 50 to60 minutes. The charging time can vary depending onfactors like the ambient temperature.

1.2.2 Mowing techniqueThe robotic lawnmower's system is based on an efficientand energy saving principle. Unlike many standardlawnmowers, the robotic lawnmower cuts the grassinstead of knocking it off. This frequent cutting technique

improves the grass quality. No collection of grass isrequired, and small pieces of cut grass will reduce theneed of fertilizers. Furthermore, it is emission free,convenient and your lawn will always look wellmaintained.

It is recommended to let the robotic lawnmower tomainly mow in dry weather to obtain the best possibleresult. The robotic lawnmower can also mow in the rain,however wet grass easily sticks on the roboticlawnmower and there is a greater risk of slipping onsteep slopes.

The blades must be in good condition to obtain the bestmowing result. In order to keep the blades sharp for aslong as possible it is important to keep the lawn freefrom branches, small stones and other objects.

Replace the blades regularly for the best mowing result.See Replace the blades on page 36.

1.2.3 Working methodThe robotic lawnmower automatically mows the lawn. Itcontinuously alternates between mowing and charging.

When the robotic lawnmower body hits an obstacle orapproaches the boundary wire the robotic lawnmowerreverses and selects a new direction. Sensors at thefront and back will sense when the robotic lawnmower isapproaching the boundary wire. The front of the roboticlawnmower always passes the boundary wire by aspecific distance before the mower turns around. Thedistance can be changed to adapt to the installation ifrequired.

The STOP button on the top of the robotic lawnmower ismainly used to stop the robotic lawnmower when it’srunning. When the STOP button is pressed a hatchopens, behind which there is a control panel. The controlpanel is where you manage all the robotic lawnmowersettings.The STOP button remains pressed in until thehatch is closed again. This together with the STARTbutton acts as a start inhibitor.

1.2.4 Movement patternThe movement pattern of the robotic lawnmower israndom, which means that a movement pattern is neverrepeated. With this cutting system the lawn is mownevenly without any mowing lines from the roboticlawnmower.

1.2.5 Search methodThe guide wire is a wire that is laid from the chargingstation towards, for instance, a remote part of theworking area or through a narrow passage. It isconnected to the boundary wire and makes it mucheasier and faster for the robotic lawnmower to find thecharging station. For more information, see Installationof the guide wire on page 18.

The robotic lawnmower starts to search for the chargingstation when the battery charge becomes too low. Therobotic lawnmower does not mow when it is searchingfor the charging station.

When the robotic lawnmower searches for the chargingstation, it first searches irregularly for the guide wire.Then it follows the guide wire to the charging station,turns around just in front of the station and backs into it.

The robotic lawnmower canonly start when the mainswitch is set to 1 and the cor-rect PIN code has been en-tered. Turn the main switch to0 before carrying out any in-spections and/or mainte-nance.

It is not permitted to dispose this productas normal household waste. Ensure thatthe product is recycled in accordance withlocal legal requirements.

The chassis contains components whichare sensitive to electrostatic discharge(ESD). The chassis must also be resealedin a professional manner. For thesereasons the chassis shall only be openedby authorized service technicians. Abroken seal can result in the entire orparts of the guarantee no longer beingvalid.

The low voltage cable must not beshortened, extended or spliced.

Do not use a trimmer nearby the lowvoltage cable. Be careful when trimmingedges where the cables are placed.

Operate the disabling device before youuse or lift the product.

2 Safety2.1 Safety definitionsWarnings, cautions and notes are used to point outspecially important parts of the operator's manual.

CAUTION: Used if there is a risk of damage tothe product, other materials or the adjacent areaif the instructions in the manual are not obeyed.

2.2 General safety instructionsThe following system is used in the Operator’s Manualto make it easier to use:

• Text written in italics is a text that is shown on therobotic lawnmower’s display or is a reference toanother section in the Operator’s Manual.

• Text written in bold is one of the buttons on therobotic lawnmower’s keypad.

• Text written in UPPERCASE and italics refer to theposition of the main switch and the differentoperating modes available in the robotic lawnmower.

2.2.1 IMPORTANT. READ CAREFULLY BEFORE USE. KEEP FOR FUTURE REFERENCE

The operator is responsible for accidents or hazards occuring to other people or property.This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sen-sory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been givensupervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safe-ty. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reducedphysical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have beengiven supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understandthe hazards involved. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator. Clearing and mainte-nance shall not be made by children without supervision.Never connect the power supply to an outlet if plug or cord is damaged. Worn or damaged cordincrease the risk of electric shock.Only charge the battery in the included charging station. Incorrect use may result in electricshock, overheating or leaking of corrosive liquid from the battery. In the event of leakage of elec-trolyte flush with water/neutralizing agent, seek medical help if it comes in contact with the eyes.Use only original batteries recommended by the manufacturer. Product safety cannot be guaran-teed with other than original batteries. Do not use non-rechargeable batteries.The appliance must be disconnected from the supply mains when removing the battery.

2.3 Safety instructions for operation2.3.1 Use• This robotic lawnmower is designed to mow grass in

open and level ground areas. It may only be usedwith the equipment recommended by themanufacturer. All other types of use are incorrect.The manufacturer’s instructions with regard tooperation/maintenance and repair must be followedprecisely.

• Warning signs shall be placed around the workingarea of the robotic lawnmower if it is used in publicareas. The signs shall have the following text:Warning! Automatic lawnmower! Keep away fromthe machine! Supervise children!

• Use the HOME function or switch off the main switchwhen persons, especially children or pets, are in thecutting area. It is recommended to program thelawnmower for use during hours when the area isfree from activity, e.g. at night. See Timer on page22.

• The robotic lawnmower may only be operated,maintained and repaired by persons that are fullyconversant with its special characteristics and safetyregulations. Please read the Operator’s Manualcarefully and make sure you understand theinstructions before using the robotic lawnmower.

• It is not permitted to modify the original design of therobotic lawnmower. All modifications are made atyour own risk.

• Check that there are no stones, branches, tools,toys or other objects on the lawn that can damagethe blades. Objects on the lawn can also lead to therobotic lawnmower getting stuck in them and helpmay be required to remove the object before themower can continue mowing. Always set the mainswitch in position 0 before clearing a blockage.

• Start the robotic lawnmower according to theinstructions. When the main switch is set to 1; makesure to keep your hands and feet away from therotating blades. Never put your hands and feetunder the robotic lawnmower.

• Never touch moving hazardous parts, such as theblade disc, before it has come to a complete stop.

• Never lift up the robotic lawnmower or carry itaround when the main switch is in position 1.

• Do not let persons who do not know how the roboticlawnmower works and behaves use it.

• The robotic lawnmower must never be allowed tocollide with persons or other living creatures. If aperson or other living creature comes in thelawnmower’s way it shall be stopped immediately.See Stop on page 34.

• Do not put anything on top of the robotic lawnmoweror its charging station.

• Do not allow the robotic lawnmower to be used witha defective guard, blade disc or body. Neither shouldit be used with defective blades, screws, nuts orcables. Never connect a damaged cable, or touch adamaged cable before it is disconnected from thesupply.

• Do not use the robotic lawnmower if the main switchdoes not work.

• Always switch off the robotic lawnmower using themain switch when the robotic lawnmower is not inuse. The robotic lawnmower can only start when themain switch is set to 1 and the correct PIN code hasbeen entered.

• The robotic lawnmower must never be used at thesame time as a sprinkler. Use the timer function (see Timer on page 22) so the mower and sprinklernever run simultaneously.

• McCULLOCH does not guarantee full compatibilitybetween the robotic lawnmower and other types ofwireless systems such as remote controls, radiotransmitters, hearing loops, underground electricanimal fencing or similar.

• The built-in alarm is very loud. Be careful, especiallyif the robotic lawnmower is handled indoors.

• Metal objects in the ground (for example reinforcedconcrete or anti-mole nets) can result in a stoppage.The metal objects can cause interference with theloop signal which then can lead to a stoppage.

• The robotic lawnmower must never be used intemperatures below 0 °C / 32 °F or above 50 °C /122 °F. This might cause damage to the product.

2.3.2 How to lift and move the robotic lawnmowerTo safely move from or within the working area:

1. Press the STOP button to stop the roboticlawnmower. If security is set to the medium or highlevel (see Security on page 25) the PIN code hasto be entered. The PIN code contains four digits andis selected when you start the robotic lawnmower forthe first time. See First start-up and calibration onpage 20.

2. Set the main switch in position 0.

3. Carry the robotic lawnmower by the handle underthe robotic lawnmower with the blade disc awayfrom the body.

CAUTION: Do not lift the robotic lawnmowerwhen it is parked in the charging station. It candamage the charging station and/or the roboticlawnmower. Press STOP and pull the roboticlawnmower out of the charging station beforelifting it.

2.3.3 MaintenanceWARNING: When the robotic lawnmower isturned upside down the main switch mustalways be in the 0 position.

The main switch should be set in the 0 positionduring all work on the mower’s chassis, such ascleaning or replacing the blades.

CAUTION: Never use a high-pressure washeror even running water to clean the roboticlawnmower. Never use solvents for cleaning.

Inspect the robotic lawnmower each week and replaceany damaged or worn parts. See Maintenance on page36.

2.3.4 In the event of a thunderstorm

To reduce the risk of damage to electrical componentsin the robotic lawnmower and its charging station, werecommend that all connections to the charging stationare disconnected (power supply, boundary wire andguide wires) if there is a risk of a thunderstorm.

1. Make sure the wires are marked with the suppliedmarkers to simplify reconnecting. The chargingstation’s connections are marked R, L and Guide.

2. Disconnect all connected wires and the powersupply.

3. Connect all the wires and the power supply if thereis no longer a risk of thunder. It is important thateach wire is connected to the right place.

3 Installation3.1 PresentationThis chapter contains information that is important to beaware of when planning the installation.

Before starting the installation make yourself familiarwith what is included in the carton.

3.1.1 Main components for installationThe installation of the robotic lawnmower involves 4main components:

1. A robotic lawnmower that mows the lawn byessentially operating in a random pattern.

2. A charging station, to where the robotic lawnmowerreturns when the battery level becomes too low.

3. A power supply, which is connected to the chargingstation and a 100-240V wall socket. The powersupply is connected to the wall socket and to thecharging station using a 10 m / 33 ft. long lowvoltage cable. Low voltage cables with 3 m / 10 ft.and 20 m / 65 ft. length are available as optionalaccessories. No parts of the power supply must bechanged or tampered with. For example the lowvoltage cable must not be shortened or extended.

4. Loop wire, which is laid around the edges of thelawn and around objects and plants that the roboticlawnmower must not run into. The loop wire is usedboth as a boundary wire and a guide wire. Themaximum permitted length for the boundary loop is400 m / 1300 ft.

3.2 PreparationsRead through this entire chapter before beginning theinstallation. How the installation is done also affects howwell the robotic lawnmower works. It is thereforeimportant to plan the installation carefully.

Planning is simplified if you make a sketch of theworking area, including all obstacles. This makes iteasier to see the ideal positions for the charging station,the boundary wire and the guide wire. Draw on thesketch where the boundary and guide wires should berouted.

Visit www.mcculloch.com for further descriptions andtips regarding installation.

1. If the lawn in the working area is longer than 10 cm /4 in. mow it using a standard lawnmower. Collect thegrass.

2. Fill in holes and hollows to stop rainwater formingpools of water. The product may be damaged if it isoperated in pools of water. See Warranty on page50.

3. Read carefully through all the steps before theinstallation.

4. Check that all parts for the installation are included.See Presentation on page 10.

3.2.1 Installation toolsDuring installation you will also need:

• Hammer/plastic mallet (to simplify putting the pegsin the ground).

• Combination pliers for cutting the boundary wire andpressing the connectors together.

• Polygrip (for pressing the couplers together).• Edge cutter/straight spade if the boundary wire must

be buried.

3.3 Charging stationThe charging station has 3 functions:

• To send control signals along the boundary wire.• To send control signals in the guide wire so that the

robotic lawnmower can find the charging station.• To charge the robotic lawnmower battery.

3.3.1 Best charging station locationTake the following aspects into consideration whenidentifying the best location for the charging station:

• Allow minimum 3 m / 10 ft. of free space in front ofthe charging station.

• It must be possible to lay minimum 1.5 m / 5 ft. ofboundary wire straight out to the right and left of thecharging station. Any other location can mean thatthe robotic lawnmower enters the charging stationsideways and will have difficulty docking.

• It must be close to a wall socket. The supplied lowvoltage cable is 10 m / 33 ft. long.

• A level surface free from sharp objects to place thecharging station on.

• Protection from water spray for instance fromirrigation.

• Protection from direct sunlight.• Place it in the lower part of a working area that has a

major slope.• Possible requirement to keep the charging station

out of sight for outsiders.

The charging station must be positioned with free spacein front of it (minimum 3 m / 10 ft). It should also becentrally placed in the working area to make it easier forthe robotic lawnmower to reach all areas in the workingarea.

Do not put the charging station in confined spaces or ina corner. This can make it difficult for the robotic mowerto find the charging station.

The charging station must be positioned on relativelylevel ground. The front end of the charging stationcannot be positioned higher or lower than the back endaccording to picture below.

The charging station must not be positioned in a waythat can bend its base plate.

If the installation is done in a working area with a steepslope, the charging station should be placed at thebottom of the slope. This makes it easier for the roboticlawnmower to follow the guide wire to the chargingstation.

The charging station should not be placed on an islandas this limits the laying of the guide wire in an optimalway. If the charging station has to be installed on anisland, the guide wire also has to be connected to theisland. Read more about islands in the Boundarieswithin the working area on page 15.

3.3.2 Connecting the power supplyConsider the following when planning where to place thepower supply:

• Close to the charging station• Protection from rain• Protection from direct sunlight

The power supply must be placed where it is wellventilated and must be placed under a roof. If the powersupply is connected to an electrical socket outdoors, thismust be approved for outdoor use. It is recommended touse an earth fault-breaker (RCD) when connecting thepower supply to the wall socket.

WARNING: Applicable to USA/Canada. If powersupply is installed outdoors: Risk of ElectricShock. Install only to a covered Class A GFCIreceptacle (RCD) that has an enclosure that isweatherproof with the attachment plug capinserted or removed.

No parts of the power supply must be changed ortampered with. For example the low voltage cable mustnot be shortened or extended. Low voltage cables with 2m / 10 ft. or 20 m / 66 ft. length are avalible as optionalaccessories.

It is possible to let the low voltage cable cross theworking area if it is stapled down or buried. The cuttingheight should be such that the blades can never come incontact with the low voltage cable.

The low voltage cable must never be stored in a coil orunder the charging station's base plate as this caninterfere with the signals from the charging station.

WARNING: Do not under any circumstancesmount the power supply at a height where thereis a risk it can be submerged in water (minimum30 cm / 12 in. from the ground). It is not

3.3.3 Installing and connecting the charging station1. Position the charging station in a suitable spot.2. Connect the low voltage cable to the charging

station.

3. Connect the power supply's power cable to a100-240V wall socket. If the power supply isconnected to an electrical socket outdoors, this mustbe approved for outdoor use. See Connecting thepower supply on page 12.

4. Attach the charging station to the ground using thesupplied screws. Ensure the screws are screwed allthe way down in the countersink.

CAUTION: It is not permitted to make new holesin the base plate. Only the existing holes maybe used to secure it to the ground.

CAUTION: Do not tread or walk on the chargingstation’s base plate.

3.4 Charging the batteryWhen the charging station is connected, it is possible tocharge the robotic lawnmower. Set the main switch toposition 1.

Place the robotic lawnmower in the charging stationwhile the boundary and guide wires are being laid.

If the battery is flat, it takes around 80 to 100 minutes tofully charge it.

WARNING: Only charge the robotic lawnmowerusing a charging station which is intended for it.Incorrect use may result in electric shock,overheating or leakage of corrosive liquid fromthe battery. In the event of leakage of electrolyteflush with water and seek medical help if itcomes in contact with the eyes etc.

Note: The robotic lawnmower cannot be used before theinstallation is complete.

3.5 Boundary wireThe boundary wire can be installed in the followingways:

• Secure the wire to the ground with pegs.

Staple down the boundary wire if you want to makeadjustments to the boundary loop during the first fewweeks of operation. After a few weeks the grass will

have grown over the wire making it no longer visible.Use a hammer/plastic mallet and pegs.

• Bury the wire.

Bury the boundary wire if you want to dethatch oraerate the lawn. If necessary, both methods can becombined so one part of the boundary wire isstapled down and the other is buried. The wire canbe buried for instance using an edge cutter or astraight spade. Make sure to lay the boundary wireat least 1 cm / 0.4 in. and a maximum of 20 cm / 8in. in the ground.

3.5.1 Plan where to lay the boundary wireThe boundary wire must be laid so that:

• The wire forms a loop around the working area. Useoriginal boundary wire. It is specially designed toresist dampness from the soil.

• The robotic lawnmower is never more than 15 m / 49ft. from the wire at any point in the working area.

• The wire is no more than 400 m / 1312 ft. long.• About 20 cm / 8 in. of extra wire is available to which

the guide wire will be connected later. See Layingthe boundary wire on page 17.

The illustration below shows how the boundary wiremust be laid around the working area and aroundobstacles. Use the supplied measurement gauge toobtain the correct distance. See Product overview onpage 5.

3.5.2 Working area boundariesDepending on what the working area is adjacent to, theboundary wire must be laid at different distances fromobstacles.

If a high obstacle (5 cm / 2 in. or more), for example awall or fence, borders the working area, the boundarywire should be laid 30 cm / 12 in. from the obstacle. Thiswill prevent the robotic lawnmower from colliding withthe obstacle and reduce body wear. About 20 cm / 8 in.of the lawn around the fixed obstacle will not be mown.

If the working area borders a small ditch, a flower bed ora small elevation, for example a low kerbstone (1-5 cm /0.4-2 in.), the boundary wire should be laid 20 cm / 8 in.inside the working area. When the working area is divided by a paving stone paththat is level with the lawn, it is possible to allow therobotic lawnmower to run over the path. It can be anadvantage to lay the boundary wire under the pavingstones. The boundary wire can also be laid in the jointbetween the paving stones. Ensure that the tiles are inlevel with the lawn to avoid excessive wear on therobotic lawnmower.

CAUTION: The robotic lawnmower must neverrun over gravel, mulch or similar material whichcan damage the blades.

CAUTION: If the working area is adjacent towater bodies, slopes, precipices or a publicroad, the boundary wire must be supplementedwith an edging or the like. It must then be atleast 15 cm / 6 in. in height. This will prevent therobotic lawnmower from ending up outside theworking area under any circumstance.

3.5.3 Boundaries within the working areaUse the boundary wire to isolate areas inside theworking area by creating islands around obstacles whichcannot withstand a collision, for example flowerbeds,bushes and fountains. Lay the wire up to and around thearea to be isolated, and then return it back along thesame route. If pegs are used, the wire should be laidunder the same pegs on the return route. When theboundary wires to and from the island are laid closetogether, the robotic lawnmower can drive over the wire.

CAUTION: The boundary wire may not becrossed on its way to and from an island.

Obstacles that can withstand a collision, for exampletrees or bushes taller than 15 cm / 6 in. do not need tobe isolated with the boundary wire. The roboticlawnmower will turn around when it collides with thistype of obstacle.

However, to achieve careful and silent operation, it isrecommended to isolate all fixed objects in and aroundthe working area.

Obstacles that slope slightly, for example stones or largetrees with raised roots, must be isolated or removed.Otherwise the robotic lawnmower can slide up onto thiskind of obstacle causing the blades to be damaged.

3.5.3.1 Secondary areasIf the working area consists of two areas which therobotic lawnmower has difficulty travelling between, it isrecommended to set up a secondary area. Instances ofthis are 25% slopes or a passage that is narrower than60 cm / 24 in. Lay the boundary wire then around thesecondary area so that it forms an island outside of themain area. The robotic lawnmower must be movedmanually between the main and secondary area whenthe lawn in the secondary area has to be cut.

The MAN operating mode must be used as the roboticlawnmower cannot travel on its own from the secondaryarea to the charging station. See Operation selection onpage 33. In this mode, the robotic lawnmower willnever look for the charging station but will mow until thebattery runs out. When the battery is flat, the roboticlawnmower will stop and the Needs manual chargingmessage will appear in the display. Place the roboticlawnmower in the charging station to charge the battery.If the main area has to be cut straight after charging, theSTART button must be pressed and the AUTOoperating mode selected before closing the hatch.

3.5.3.2 Passages when mowingLong and narrow passages and areas narrower than 1,5- 2 m / 5 - 6.5 ft. should be avoided. It is then a risk thatthe robotic lawnmower travels around in the passage orarea for a period of time. The lawn will then lookflattened.

3.5.3.3 SlopesThe robotic lawnmower can operate in slopes. Themaximum gradient is defined as percentage units (%)and is calculated as difference in elevation incentimetres for every metre.

The boundary wire can be laid across a slope that slantsless than 15%.

3.5.4 Laying the boundary wireIf you intend to staple down the boundary wire:

• Cut the grass very low with a standard lawnmoweror a trimmer where the wire is to be laid. It will thenbe easier to lay the wire close to the ground and therisk of the robotic lawnmower cutting the wire ordamaging the insulation of the wire is reduced.

• Make sure to lay the boundary wire close to theground and secure the pegs close together. Thecable must lie close to the ground so as not to be cutbefore the grass roots have grown over it. Mowingthe grass too low right after the installation candamage the wire insulation. Damage to theinsulation may not cause disruptions until severalweeks or months later. To avoid this, always selectthe maximum cutting height the first weeks afterinstallation and then lower the height one step at atime every second week until the desired cuttingheight has been reached.

• Use a hammer to knock the pegs into the ground.Exercise care when knocking the pegs and makesure the wire is not under strain. Avoid sharp bends.

If the boundary wire is to be buried:

• Make sure to lay the boundary wire at a minimum of1 cm / 0.4 in. and a maximum of 20 cm / 8 in. in theground. The wire can be buried for instance using anedge cutter or a straight spade.

Note: Extra wire must not be placed in coils outside theboundary wire. This can disrupt the robotic lawnmower.

3.5.4.1 Eyelet for connecting the guide wireTo facilitate the connection of the guide wire to theboundary wire, it is recommended to create an eyeletwith about 20 cm / 8 in. of extra boundary wire at thepoint where the guide wire will later be connected. It is agood idea to plan where the guide wire will be placedbefore laying out the boundary wire. See Laying theboundary wire on page 17.

3.5.4.2 Splicing the boundary wire

CAUTION: Twinned cables, or a screw terminalblock that is insulated with insulation tape arenot satisfactory splices. Soil moisture will causethe wire to oxidise and after a time result in abroken circuit.

Use an original coupler if the boundary wire is not longenough and needs to be spliced. It is waterproof andgives a reliable electrical connection.

Insert both wire ends in the coupler. Check that thewires are fully inserted into the coupler so that the endsare visible through the transparent area on the otherside of the coupler. Now press down the button on top of

the coupler fully. Use a polygrip to completely pressdown the button on the coupler.

3.6 Connecting the boundary wireCAUTION: The boundary wire must not becrossed when connecting it to the chargingstation. The right hand wire end must beconnected to the right hand pin on the chargingstation and the left hand wire end to the left pin.

Connect the boundary wire to the charging station:

1. Open the connector and place the wire in theconnector grip.

2. Press the connectors together using a pair of pliers.Press until you hear a click.

3. Cut off any excess boundary wire 1 cm / 0.4 in. or 2cm / 0.8 in. above each connector.

4. Press the connector onto the metal pin, Press theconnector onto the contact pin, marked L (left) and R(right), on the charging station.Carefully check thatthe connector is properly fitted.

3.7 Installation of the guide wireThe guide wire is used by the robotic lawnmower to findits way back to the charging station but also to guide therobotic lawnmower to remote areas of the garden.

The same cable roll is used for both the boundary andguide wires. The guide wire, as the boundary wire, canbe stapled to or buried in the ground.

The robotic lawnmower runs at varying distances fromthe guide wire to reduce the risk of tracks forming. Thearea beside the wire which the robotic lawnmower thenuses is called the Corridor. The wider the corridorallowed by the installation, the less the risk of tracksforming.

The robotic lawnmower always runs to the left of theguide wire as seen facing the charging station. Thus thecorridor is to the left of the guide wire. When installing, itis therefore important to create as much free space aspossible to the left of the guide wire, as seen facing thecharging station.

3.7.1 Laying and connecting the guide wire

1. Run the wire through the slot in the bottom of thecharger plate.

2. Fit the connector to the guide wire in the same wayas for the boundary wire described in Connectingthe boundary wire on page 18. Connect it to thecontact pin on the charging station that is labelledGUIDE.

3. Run the guide wire at least 2 m / 6.6 ft. straight outfrom the front edge of the plate.If the guide wire must be laid in a passage:

• The robotic lawnmower follows the guide wire onthe same side of the wire to and from thecharging station. This means that the guide wireis to the right of the robotic lawnmower when themower travels to the charging station while it isto the left of the mower when the mower travelsaway from the charging station.

• If the guide wire has to be installed on a steepslope, it is an advantage to lay the wire at anangle to the slope. This makes it easier for therobotic lawnmower to follow the guide wire onthe slope.

• Avoid laying the wire at sharp angles. This canmake it difficult for the robotic lawnmower tofollow the guide wire.

used to connect each boundary wire. Insert theguide wire in the centre hole in the coupler.Check that the wires are fully inserted into thecoupler so that the ends are visible through thetransparent area on the other side of the coupler.

• Use a polygrip to completely press down thebutton on the coupler.

7. Staple down/bury the connector in the lawn.

CAUTION: The guide wire may not cross theboundary wire, for instance a boundary wire thatis laid out to an island.

CAUTION: Test that the guide wire worksbefore using the robotic lawnmower.

3.8 Checking the installationCheck the loop signal by inspecting the indicator lampon the charging station.

See Indicator lamp in the charging station on page 42 ifthe lamp does not indicate a solid or flashing green light.

3.9 First start-up and calibrationWhen the main switch is set to position 1 for the firsttime, a start-up sequence in the robotic lawnmower’smenu must be carried out as well as an automaticcalibration of the guide signal. The calibration is also agood test to see that the installation of the guide wirehas been done in such a way that the roboticlawnmower can easily follow the guide wire from thecharging station.

1. Open the hatch by pressing the STOP button.2. Set the main switch to position 1.

A start-up sequence begins when the roboticlawnmower is started for the first time. The followingis requested:

• Language.• Country• Current time• Date• 4 digit PIN code. All combinations except 0000

are permitted.

Note: Use the MEMO page at the beginning of themanual to make a note of the PIN code.

3. Place the robotic lawnmower in the charging stationas requested in the display. Press the START buttonand close the hatch. The robotic lawnmower will nowstart the guide calibration, by leaving the chargingstation and following the guide wire to the pointwhere the guide wire is connected to the boundarywire to begin mowing there. Check that the roboticlawnmower can follow the guide wire all the way. If itcannot, this may be due to an incorrectly installedguide wire. In this case, check that the installation isperformed as described in Installation of the guidewire on page 18. Then carry out a new calibration.See Calibrate guide, ROB R600 on page 27 forROB R600 and Test settings on page 24 for ROBR800, ROB R1000.

3.10 Test docking with the charging stationBefore using the robotic lawnmower, check that therobotic lawnmower can follow the guide wire all the wayto the charging station and easily docks with thecharging station. Perform the test below.

1. Open the panel hatch by pressing the STOP button.2. Place the robotic lawnmower close to the point

where the guide wire is connected to the boundary

wire. Place the robotic lawnmower about 2 m fromthe guide wire, facing the guide wire.

3. Select HOME mode by pressing the house symbolkey and pressing OK when the cursor is at Home.Press START and close the hatch.

4. Check that the robotic lawnmower follows the guidewire all the way to the charging station and that itdocks with the charging station. The test is approvedonly if the robotic lawnmower is able to follow theguide wire the entire distance to the charging stationand docks at the first attempt. If the roboticlawnmower is unable to dock on the first attempt, itwill automatically try again. The installation is notapproved if the robotic lawnmower needs two ormore attempts to dock with the charging station. Inthis case, check that the charging station, theboundary wire and the guide wire are installed inaccordance with the instructions.

5. The robotic lawnmower will stay in the chargingstation until AUTO or MAN mode is selected. See Operation selection on page 33.The guide system must first be calibrated if theabove test is to provide a satisfactory result. See First start-up and calibration on page 20.

3.11 Control panel3.11.1 Instruction - Control panelAll commands and settings for the robotic lawnmowerare made via the control panel. All functions areaccessed via a number of menus.

The control panel consists of a display and a keypad. Allinformation is shown on the display and all input is doneusing the buttons.

3.11.2 Keypad The keypad consists of 4 groups of buttons:

• The START button is used to activate the roboticlawnmower. This is normally the last button to bepressed before closing the hatch.

• The 3 multi-choice buttons offer various functions,depending on where in the menu structure you are.The button function is shown at the bottom of thedisplay.

• The number keys are used for instance to enter thePIN code or time settings.

• The operation selection button is symbolised by ahouse. When the button has been pressed, theselected operation mode is shown in the display.

3.11.3 DisplayWhen the STOP button has been pressed and the hatchis opened, the operation window appears showing thetime, selected operating mode, number of mowinghours, battery status and timer setting.

• The clock shows the current time.• Date shows the current day.• The number of operating hours indicates the number

of hours since the day of manufacture that therobotic lawnmower has been in operation. The timethat the robotic lawnmower has spent mowing orsearching for the charging station is counted asoperating time.

• AUTO, MAN or HOME show which mode ofoperation is selected. See Operation selection onpage 33.

• The battery status shows the remaining batterycharge.

• The ECO symbol is displayed if the roboticlawnmower is set in ECO mode.

• The clock symbol indicates when the timer settingsare set. The clock symbol is black when the roboticlawnmower is not allowed to mow due to a timersetting.

• The MENU text illustrates that the main menu canbe reached by pressing the multi-choice button thatis located under the text.

3.11.4 SubmenusThere are a number of submenus under each option.You can access all the functions to set the roboticlawnmower settings via the submenus.

Certain submenus contain options that are ticked off tothe left. This means that these options are selected.Check or uncheck the box by pressing OK.

3.12 Menu structureThe main menu for the ROB R600 offers 3 options:

The following section summarises the menu selectionsfound in the main menu and provides more detailedinformation about how each function is used and whichsetting options are available.

3.12.1 Main menuTimerThe timer function is an ideal tool tocontrol which periods the roboticlawnmower should not mow, for examplewhen children are playing in the garden.

Installation (only for ROB R800, ROBR1000)This menu function is used to customizethe installation. For many working areasthere is no need to alter the factorysettings, but depending on the lawncomplexity the mowing result can beimproved by making manual settings.

SecurityIn this menu, settings relating to securityand the connection between the roboticlawnmower and the charging station canbe made. There are 3 security levels tochoose from: Low, Medium, High.

SettingsThis selection allows you to makechanges to the general robotic lawnmowersettings such as date and time. You canalso turn on/off ECO mode.

3.13 Timer

The lawn should not be cut too often to obtain the bestmowing result. When the robotic lawnmower is allowedto mow too much, the lawn may appear flattened.Besides, the robotic lawnmower is subjected tounnecessary wear. If the working area is less than therobotic lawnmower's area capacity, the quality of thegrass can be further improved if it is cut every other dayinstead of a few hours every day. In addition, the grassbenefits from resting completely during at least a three-day period once a month.

The timer function is also an ideal way to control whichwork hours the robotic lawnmower should not mow, forexample, when the children are playing in the garden.

The factory setting of the Timer is 07:00 am - 11:00 pmMon - Sun. This is normally a suitable setting for aworking area corresponding to the maximum capacity. Ifthe working area is less than maximum capacity thenthe timer should be used to minimize wear on grass andlawnmower. When setting the timer manually, calculatethat the robotic lawnmower mows about the listedamount of the number of square meters per hour andday listed in table Work capacity. See To set the timeron page 23.

The table below provides suggestions for different timersettings depending on garden size. The times should beseen as indicative. They may need to be adjusted to suitthe garden and for example grass quality and growthduring the season. Use the table as follows:

• Find a work area that closest matches the size of thelawn.

• Select an appropriate amount of work days per week(for some work areas 7 days may be needed).

• Work hours per day shows how many hours a daythe robotic lawnmower will be allowed to work for theselected amount of work days.

• Suggested time interval shows a time interval thatcorresponds to the required work hours per day.

3.14.1 Remote start 1One important function with the guide wire is thepossibility to steer the robotic lawnmower to remotegarden areas when required. This function is very usefulin gardens where, for instance, the front and back arejoined by a narrow passage.

3.14.1.1 ProportionWith this function activated, (any option other thanNever is selected) the robotic lawnmower will at timesfollow the guide wire from the charging station to theremote area and begin mowing there.

How often the robotic lawnmower must follow the guidewire from the charging station is selected as a proportionof the total number of times it leaves the chargingstation. At all other times, the robotic lawnmower leavesthe charging station in the standard manner and starts tomow.

3.14.1.2 DistanceEnter the distance in metres along the guide wire fromthe charging station to the remote area where therobotic lawnmower begins mowing. Tip! Use the TestOUT function to determine how far it is to the remotearea. The distance, stated in metres, will be shown inthe robotic lawnmower’s display.

3.14.2 Remote start 2If the working area contains two remote areas, the guidewire should be installed so that it reaches both areas.Remote start 1 and Remote start 2 can then becombined to steer the robotic lawnmower to each area.

The settings for Proportion and Distance are carried outin the same way as for Remote start 1. The defaultsetting is Never.Take into account that the total figure for Proportioncannot exceed 100%. If one has for instance selectedOften for Remote start 1, then one can only select Neveror Rarely for Remote start 2.

3.14.3 Test settingsIn the Test settings menu, it is possible to test how thesettings for Remote start 1 and Remote start 2 work inthe working area in question.

3.14.3.1 Test OUTThe Test OUT function is used to test the installationand to calculate the distance from the charging station toa remote area.

Park the robotic lawnmower in the charging station andselect Test OUT - Remote start 1. The roboticlawnmower will then leave the charging station straightaway along the guide wire and begin mowing after thedesignated distance.

How to measure the distance from the charging stationto a remote area:

Enter a distance which beyond any doubt exceeds thereal figure. The maximum distance that can be enteredis 100 m / 328 ft. Park the robotic lawnmower in thecharging station and select Test OUT. The roboticlawnmower will immediately leave the charging station.The distance, stated in metres, will be shown in themower display as the robotic lawnmower operates. Stopthe robotic lawnmower at the required position and notethe distance. Enter the displayed number of metres inthe Distance field for the working area in question.

If Remote start 2 has been activated, i.e. if anotheroption other than Never has been selected forProportion, these settings must also be tested. Remotestart 2 test is performed in the same way as for Remotestart 1.

3.14.3.2 Test INThe Test IN function allows you to test how well therobotic lawnmower docks with the charging station.

Note: Test IN can only be performed after Test OUT hasbeen performed.

Selecting this function causes the robotic lawnmower totravel directly along the guide wire towards the chargingstation and to dock with it. The test is approved only ifthe robotic lawnmower is able to dock with the chargingstation at the first attempt. If the robotic lawnmower isunable to dock on the first attempt, it will automaticallytry again. The installation is not approved if the roboticlawnmower needs two or more attempts to dock with thecharging station.

3.14.4 Drive past wireThe front of the robotic lawnmower always passes theboundary wire by a specific distance before the mowerturns around. The default distance is 25 cm / 10 in. butthis can be changed if required. The minimum value is20 cm / 8 in., and the maximum value is 30 cm / 12 in.Note that the distance given is only an approximatevalue. In reality, the actual distance the robotic mowerpasses the boundary wire can vary.

Specify the number of centimetres you want the roboticlawnmower to pass the boundary wire and press OK.

3.15 SecurityThrough this selection, settings relating to security andthe connection between the mower and the chargingstation can be made.

3.15.1 Change PIN codeEnter the new PIN code and press OK. Enter the samecode again and confirm by pressing OK. When the PINcode is changed, the message PIN code changedappears in the display.

3.15.2 Security levelThere are 3 security levels to choose from.

3.15.2.1 Time lockThis function means that the robotic lawnmower cannotbe started after 30 days without first entering the correctPIN code. When the 30 days has passed the roboticlawnmower will continue to mow as normal, but theEnter PIN code message appears when the hatch isopened. Enter your code again and press OK.

3.15.2.2 PIN requestThis function means that the robotic lawnmowerrequests a PIN code when the main switch is set to 1and each time the hatch is opened. The correct PINcode must be entered to use the robotic lawnmower.

3.15.2.3 AlarmThis function means that an alarm sounds if the PINcode is not entered within 10 seconds after the STOPbutton has been pressed or the robotic lawnmower hasbeen lifted up for any reason. A ticking noise indicatesthat the PIN code must be entered to prevent triggeringthe alarm. The alarm can be turned off at any time byentering the correct PIN code.

3.15.3 New loop signalThe loop signal is randomly selected to create a uniquelink between the robotic lawnmower and the chargingstation. In rare cases, there may be a need to generatea new signal, for instance if two adjacent installationshave a very similar signal.

1. Place the robotic lawnmower in the charging station.2. Select New loop signal in the menu.3. Press OK and await confirmation that the loop signal

has been generated. This normally takes about 10seconds.

3.16.1 ECO modeThis function automatically turns off the loop signal inthe boundary loop, the guide wires and the chargingstation when the robotic lawnmower is not mowing, i.e.when the lawnmower is charging or is not allowed tomow due to timer settings.

The ECO mode is suitable to use where there is otherwireless equipment not compatible with the roboticlawnmower e.g.certain hearing loops or garage doors.

When ECO mode is activated, the indicator lamp in thecharging station flashes green. ECO mode means thatthe robotic lawnmower can only be started in thecharging station and not out in the working area.

In ECO mode, it is very important to always press theSTOP button before removing the robotic lawnmowerfrom the charging station. It is otherwise not possible tostart the robotic lawnmower. If the lawnmower has beenremoved by mistake without first pressing the STOPbutton, the lawnmower must be placed back in thecharging station and the STOP button pressed. Only

then can the robotic lawnmower be started inside theworking area.

Select RUN ECO mode and press OK to activate ECOmode.

Note: Always press the STOP button before removingthe robotic lawnmower from the charging station. InECO mode the robotic lawnmower otherwise will not bestarted inside the working area.

3.16.6 Calibrate guide, ROB R600The Calibrate guide function allows you to test if therobotic lawnmower can follow the guide wire out fromthe charging station.

To test the guide wire:1. Place the robotic lawnmower in the charging station.2. Select Calibrate guide and press OK. The robotic

lawnmower will now leave the charging station, run acalibration process in front of the charging stationand then follow the guide wire to the connectionpoint with the boundary wire and then start mowing.

3. Check that the robotic lawnmower can follow theguide wire all the way to the connection point withthe boundary wire.

The test has failed if the robotic lawnmower cannotfollow the guide wire all the way to the connection pointwith the boundary wire. It is likely that the installationhas not been carried out in accordance with theinstructions in Installation of the guide wire on page 18.Common errors are for instance that there is not enoughopen space to the left of the guide wire as seen facingthe charging station or that the guide wire is not laid atan angle on a steep slope. See Laying and connectingthe guide wire on page 19.

Rectify the installation and run a new test with Calibrateguide.

3.16.7 Reset user settingsThis function allows you to reset the robotic lawnmowerto factory default settings.1. Select Reset user settings in the menu and press

OK. Enter the correct PIN code and press OK.

3.16.8 AboutThe About menu displays information about the roboticlawnmower’s serial number and different softwareversions.

3.19 Yard layout examplesThe robotic mower’s behaviour is controlled to a certain extent by what settings are made. Adapting the roboticlawnmower's settings according to the shape of the lawn makes it easier for the robotic lawnmower to frequentlyreach all parts and therefore achieve a perfect mowing result.

Different layouts require different settings. The following pages outline a number of layout examples with installationproposals and settings.

The recommended timer settings in the following examples are applicable to ROB R600 unless otherwise stated.

4 Operation4.1 Main switch

WARNING: Read the safety instructionscarefully before you start your roboticlawnmower.

WARNING: Keep your hands and feet awayfrom the rotating blades. Never put your handsor feet close to or under the body when themotor is running.

WARNING: Never use the robotic lawnmowerwhen persons, especially children, or pets, arein the cutting area.

• Set the main switch in the 1 position to start therobotic lawnmower.

• Set the main switch in the 0 position when therobotic lawnmower is not in use or if any work,inspection or maintenance is being carried out.

When the main switch is set in the 0 position themotors on the robotic lawnmower cannot start.

4.2 Start1. Press the STOP button to open the hatch.2. Set the main switch to position 1.3. Enter the PIN code.4. Push the START button.

5. Shut the hatch within 10 seconds.If the robotic lawnmower is parked in the chargingstation, it will only leave the charging station whenthe battery is fully charged and if the timer is set toallow the mower to operate.

Note: Before the blade disc starts, 5 beeps are heard for2 seconds.

4.3 Operation selectionThe operation selection button is symbolised by ahouse. When the button has been pressed, the selectedoperation mode is shown in the display. Byconsecutively pressing the button many times, one canchoose between three different operation modes.

1. HOME: Sends the robotic lawnmower to thecharging station. It remains here until anotheroperation mode is selected. The text HOME isshown in the operation window. When the battery isfully charged, the robotic lawnmower will remainparked in the charging station. The roboticlawnmower will not leave the charging station andbegin mowing again until the operation selection isaltered to AUTO.

The Home setting is also used after a newinstallation or when changes are made to an existinginstallation to test if the robotic lawnmower canfollow the guide wire and dock with the chargingstation. See Test docking with the charging stationon page 20

2. AUTO: The standard, automatic operation modewhere the robotic lawnmower mows and chargesautomatically.

3. MAN: When mowing secondary areas (see Secondary areas on page 15), the MAN setting mustbe used.

If MAN is selected the robotic lawnmower will mowuntil the battery runs out. It will then stop and theNeeds manual charging message will appear. Therobotic lawnmower must then be moved manually tothe charging station and then started manually aftercharging.

If the robotic lawnmower charges in the MAN mode,it will fully charge, move about 20 cm / 8 in. out ofthe charging station and then stop. This indicatesthat it is charged and ready to start mowing.

If the main working area has to be cut after charging,it is appropriate to switch the operation mode toAUTO before placing the robotic lawnmower in thecharging station.

Note: Always press the START button before closing thehatch to start the robotic lawnmower. If the STARTbutton is not pressed, a message beep is heard and therobotic lawnmower will not start.

WARNING: Use the timer to avoid mowingwhen there are usually children, pets andanything else that could be damaged by therotating blades on the lawn.

The factory setting for the timer is 07:00 am - 11:00 pmand it allows mowing every day of the week. This settingis suitable for the listed maximum working area.

If the size of the working area allows it, the quality of thegrass can be further improved if it is cut every other dayinstead of a few hours every day. In addition, the grassbenefits from resting completely during at least a three-day period once a month.

4.7 Charge a flat batteryWhen the McCULLOCH robotic lawnmower is new orhas been stored for a long period, the battery will be flatand needs to be charged before starting.

WARNING: Only charge the robotic lawnmowerusing a charging station which is intended for it.Incorrect use may result in electric shock,overheating or leakage of corrosive liquid fromthe battery.

In the event of leakage of electrolyte flush withwater and seek medical help if it comes incontact with the eyes etc.

4.8 Adjust the cutting heightThe cutting height can be varied from MIN (2 cm / 0.8 in)to MAX (5 cm / 2 in.).

To adjust the cutting height:

2. Turn the height adjustment knob to the requiredposition. The selected position is indicated by theorange column on the height adjustment indicator.• Turn anti-clockwise to raise the cutting height.• Turn clockwise to lower the cutting height.

5 Maintenance5.1 Introduction - maintenanceFor better operating reliability and longer service life:check and clean the robotic lawnmower regularly andreplace worn parts if necessary. All maintenance andservicing must be done according to McCULLOCH'sinstructions. See Guarantee terms on page 50.

When the robotic lawnmower is first used, the blade discand blades should be inspected once a week. If theamount of wear during this period has been low, theinspection interval can be increased.

It is important that the blade disc rotates easily. Theedges of the blades should not be damaged. Thelifetime of the blades varies immensely and depends forinstance on:

• Operating time and size of the working area.• Type of grass and seasonal growth.• Soil, sand and use of fertilizers.• The presence of objects such as cones, windfalls,

toys, tools, stones, roots and the like.

The normal life is 4 to 7 weeks when used underfavorable conditions. See Replace the blades on page36 on how to replace the blades.

WARNING: Wear protective gloves.

Note: Working with blunt blades gives a poorer mowingresult. The grass is not cut cleanly and more energy isneeded resulting in the robotic lawnmower not mowingsuch a large area.

5.2 Clean the robotic lawnmowerIt is important to keep the robotic lawnmower clean. Amower with large amounts of grass stuck to it will notcope as well with slopes. It is recommended to cleanusing a brush.

CAUTION: Never use a high-pressure washeror even running water to clean the roboticlawnmower. Never use solvents for cleaning.

5.2.1 Chassis and blade disc1. Set the main switch to position 0.2. Lift the robotic lawnmower onto its side.3. Clean the blade disc and chassis using for example

a dish brush. At the same time, check that the bladedisc rotates freely in relation to the foot guard. Also,check that the blades are intact and can pivot freely.If long grass or other objects find their way in, thesemay impede the blade disc. Even a slight brakingeffect leads to a higher consumption of energy andat worst will prevent the robotic lawnmower frombeing able to mow a large lawn.

5.2.2 ChassisClean the underside of the chassis. Brush or wipe with adamp cloth.

5.2.3 WheelsClean around the front wheels and rear wheel as well asthe rear wheel bracket. Grass on the wheels can impacton how the lawnmower works in slopes.

5.2.4 BodyUse a damp, soft sponge or cloth to clean the body. Ifthe body is very dirty it may be necessary to use a soapsolution or washing-up liquid.

5.2.5 Charging stationClean the charging station regularly from grass, leaves,twigs and other objects that may impede docking.

5.3 Replace the bladesWARNING: Always use blades and screws ofthe right type. McCULLOCH can only guaranteesafety when using original blades. Onlyreplacing the blades and reusing the screw canresult in a screw wearing during mowing andshearing. The blades can then be propelledfrom under the body and cause serious injury.

Replace worn or damaged parts for safety reasons.Even if the blades are intact, they should be replaced ona regular basis for the best mowing result and lowenergy usage.

There are 3 blades on the robotic lawnmower, which arescrewed into the blade disc. All 3 blades and screwsmust be replaced at the same time to obtain a balancedcutting system.

Use McCULLOCH original blades embossed with thecrowned H-mark logotype, see Warranty on page 50.

5.3.1 To replace the blades1. Set the main switch to position 0.

2. Turn the robotic lawnmower upside down. Place therobotic lawnmower on a soft and clean surface toavoid scratching the body and the hatch.

3. Remove the 3 screws. Use a straight slot or cross-tip screwdriver.

4. Remove each blade and screw.5. Fasten new blades and screws.6. Check that the blades can pivot freely.

5.4 BatteryThe battery is maintenance-free, but has a limitedservice life of 2 to 4 years.

Battery service life is dependent on the length of theseason and how many hours a day the roboticlawnmower is used. A long season or many hours of useper day means that the battery must be replaced moreregularly.

WARNING: Only charge the robotic lawnmowerusing a charging station which is intended for it.Incorrect use may result in electric shock,overheating or leakage of corrosive liquid fromthe battery. In the event of leakage of electrolyteflush with water and seek medical help if itcomes in contact with the eyes etc.

CAUTION: The battery must be charged fullybefore winter storage. If the battery is not fullycharged it can be damaged and in certain casesbe rendered useless.

If the operating times for the robotic lawnmower areshorter than normal between charges, this indicates thatthe battery is getting old and eventually needs replacing.The battery is fine as long as the robotic lawnmowermaintains a well-cut lawn.

5.4.1 Replacing the batteryWARNING: Use only original batteriesrecommended by the manufacturer. Productsafety cannot be guaranteed with other thanoriginal batteries. Do not use non-rechargeablebatteries.

1. Set the main switch in position 0.2. Lower the cutting height to its lowest position.3. Turn the robotic lawnmower upside down. Place the

robotic lawnmower on a soft and clean surface toavoid scratching the body and the display cover.

4. Clean around the battery cover.5. Unscrew the four screws to the battery cover (Torx

20) and remove the battery cover.

6. Unscrew the one screw of the battery retainingbrackey and remove the bracket.

7. Pull out the battery by pulling on the strap.8. Fit a new original battery.

Note: Press on the contact strip to fit the battery inplace and not on the battery pack itself.

9. Fit the battery retaining bracket and screw it back inplace.

10. Fit the battery cover without clamping the cables. Ifthe seal on the battery cover is visibly damaged, theentire battery cover must be replaced.

11. Screw in place the four screws for the battery cover(Torx 20).

12. Reset the cutting height to the required level.

5.5 Winter serviceTake your robotic lawnmower to a local McCULLOCHrepresentative for service prior to winter storage.Regular winter service will maintain the robotic

recommendation to replace battery if necessary.• If necessary the local McCULLOCH representative

can also update the robotic lawnmower with newsoftware, including new features where applicable.

6 Troubleshooting6.1 Introduction - troubleshootingIn this chapter, a number of messages are listed which may be shown in the display if there is a malfunction. There isa proposal as to the cause and steps to take for each message. This chapter also presents some symptoms that canguide you if the robotic lawnmower does not work as expected. More suggestions for steps to take in the event ofmalfunction or symptoms can be found on www.mcculloch.com.

The charging station is on a slope. Place the charging station on a surface that isentirely level. See Best charging station loca-tion on page 11.

Uneven mowing re-sults.

The robotic lawnmower works too few hoursper day.

Increase the mowing time. See Timer andStandby on page 34.

The Proportion setting is incorrect in relationto the layout of the working area.

Check that the correct Proportion value is se-lected.

The shape of the working area requires theuse of both Remote start 1 and Remote start2 for the robotic lawnmower to find its way toall remote areas.

Also use Remote start 2 to steer the roboticlawnmower to a remote area. See Installation- ROB R800, ROB R1000 on page 24. Ap-plies to McCULLOCH ROB R800, ROBR1000 only.

Working area too large. Try limiting the working area or extending theworking time. See Timer and Standby onpage 34.

Dull blades. Replace all the blades and screws so that therotating parts are balanced. See Replace theblades on page 36.

Long grass in relation to the set cuttingheight.

Increase the cutting height and then succes-sively lower.

Accumulation of grass by the blade disc oraround the motor shaft.

Check that the blade disc rotates freely andeasily. If not, screw off the blade disc and re-move grass and foreign objects. See Cleanthe robotic lawnmower on page 36.

The robotic lawnmow-er runs at the wrongtime

6.5 Find breaks in the loop wireBreaks in the loop wire are usually the result ofunintentional physical damage to the wire such as whengardening with a shovel. In countries with ground frost,also sharp stones that move in the ground can damagethe wire. Breaks can also be due to the wire beingstretched excessively during installation.

Mowing the grass too low right after the installation candamage wire insulation. Damage to the insulation maynot cause disruptions until several weeks or monthslater. To avoid this, always select the maximum cuttingheight the first weeks after installation and then lowerthe height one step at a time every second week untilthe desired cutting height has been reached.

A defective splicing of the loop wire can also lead todisruptions several weeks after the splice was done. Afaulty splice can, for example, be the result of theoriginal coupler not being pressed together hard enoughwith a pair of pliers, or that a coupler of lower qualitythan the original coupler has been used. Please firstcheck all known splices before further troubleshooting isdone.

A wire break can be located by gradually halving thedistance of the loop where the break may have occurreduntil there is only a very short section of the wire left.

The following method does not work if ECO mode isactivated. Make sure first that ECO mode is turned off.See ECO mode on page 26.

1. Check that the indicator lamp in the charging stationflashes blue, which indicates a break in theboundary loop. See Indicator lamp in the chargingstation on page 42.

2. Check that the boundary wire connections to thecharging station are properly connected and not

damaged. Check that the indicator lamp in thecharging station is still flashing blue.

3. Switch the connections between the guide wire andthe boundary wire in the charging station.

Start by switching connection L and Guide.

If the indicator lamp is lit with a solid green light,then the break is somewhere on the boundary wirebetween L and the point where the guide wire isconnected to the boundary wire (thick black line inthe illustration).

To rectify the fault you will need boundary wire,connector(s) and coupler(s):

a) If the suspected boundary wire is short then it iseasiest to exchange all of the boundary wirebetween L and the point where the guide wire isconnected to the boundary wire (thick black line).

b) If the suspected boundary wire is long (thick blackline) then do as follows: Put L and Guide back totheir original positions. Then disconnect R. Connecta new loop wire to R. Connect the other end of thisnew loop wire at the middle of the suspected wiresection.

If the indicator lamp now is green, then the break issomewhere in the wire between the disconnectedend to the point where the new wire is connected(thick black line below). In that case, move theconnection for the new wire closer to thedisconnected end (roughly at the middle of thesuspected wire section) and check again if theindicator lamp is green.

Continue until only a very short section of the wireremains which is the difference between a solidgreen light and a flashing blue light. Then followinstruction in step 5 below.

4. If indicator lamp still flashes blue in step 3above: Put L and Guide back in their originalpositions. Then switch R and Guide. If indicator lampnow is lit with a solid green light then disconnect L

and connect a new boundary wire to L. Connect theother end of this new wire at the middle of thesuspected wire section. Follow the same approachas in 3 a) and 3b) above.

5. When the break is found, the damaged section mustbe replaced with a new wire. Always use originalcouplers.

7 Transportation, storage and disposal7.1 TransportationThe contained lithium-ion-batteries are subject to theDangerous Goods Legislation requirements. Forcommercial transports e.g. by third parties or forwardingagents, special requirement on packaging and labelingmust be observed. Consult an expert for hazardousmaterial for preparation of the item being shipped.Please also observe possibly more detailed nationalregulations.

Tape off open contacts and pack up the battery in sucha manner that it cannot move around in the packaging.Always secure the product when transporting it.

7.2 Winter storage7.2.1 The robotic lawnmowerThe robotic lawnmower must be cleaned carefully beforeputting it away for the winter. See Clean the roboticlawnmower on page 36.

To guarantee battery functionality and service life, it isimportant to charge the robotic lawnmower beforestoring it away for the winter. Place the roboticlawnmower in the charging station with the hatch openuntil the battery icon in the display shows that thebattery is fully charged. Then set the main switch to 0.

Check the condition of wear items such as blades andbearings in the rear wheel. Rectify if necessary to makesure the robotic lawnmower is in good condition prior tonext season.

Store the robotic lawnmower standing on all wheels andplace it in a dry, frost-free environment, preferably in themower’s original packaging. You can also hang therobotic lawnmower on a McCULLOCH original wallhanger. Contact your local McCULLOCH representativefor more information about available wall hangers.

CAUTION: The battery must be charged fullybefore winter storage. If the battery is not fullycharged it can be damaged and in certain casesbe rendered useless.

7.2.2 The charging stationStore the charging station and power supply indoors.The boundary wire and the guide wire can be left in theground.

1. Disconnect the charging station power supply.2. Release the connector lock and pull the connector

out.3. Disconnect the boundary and guide wire contacts

from the charging station.

The ends of the wires should be protected from damp byputting them in a container with grease for instance.

CAUTION: If it is not possible to store thecharging station indoors, the charging station

must be connected to the mains, the boundarywire and the guide wires the entire winter.

7.3 After winter storageCheck if cleaning is needed, particularly the chargingstrips on both the robotic lawnmower and the chargingstation. If the charging strips appear to be burnt orcoated, clean them using a fine grade emery cloth.Check also that the robotic lawnmower's time and dateare correct.

7.4 Environmental informationThe symbol on the McCULLOCH roboticlawnmower indicates that this productcannot be treated as domestic waste. Itshould instead be left at a suitablerecycling centre to recycle its electroniccomponents and batteries. The batterymust be removed from the product beforeit is scrapped.

By ensuring that this product is taken care of correctly,you can help to counteract the potential negative impacton the environment and people that can otherwise resultthrough incorrect waste management of this product.

For more detailed information about recycling thisproduct, contact your municipality, your domestic wasteservice or the shop from where you purchased theproduct.

9 Warranty9.1 Guarantee termsMcCULLOCH guarantees this product’s functionality fora period of two years (from date of purchase). Theguarantee covers serious faults relating to materials ormanufacturing faults. Within the guarantee period, wewill replace the product or repair it at no charge if thefollowing terms are met:

• The robotic lawnmower and the charging stationmay only be used in compliance with the instructionsin this Operator’s Manual. This manufacturer'sguarantee does not have an effect on the user'sexisting warranty claims against the dealer/seller.

• Users or non-authorized third parties must notattempt to repair the product.

Examples of faults which are not included in theguarantee:

• Damage caused by water seepage from underneaththe robotic lawnmower. This damage is normallycaused by cleaning or irrigation systems or holes/hollows in the working area when pools of water areformed when it rains.

• Damage caused by lightning.• Damage caused by improper battery storage or

battery handling.• Damage caused by using a battery that is not a
