Our folks continue to participate in the Meals on Wheels pro- gram. Nathan, Jason, Amy, Rusty and Rhonda have been keeping busy going to their job sites. All individuals have been work- ing on their job skills by cleaning tables, making tea, vacuuming, learning new job opportunities, washing dishes, folding towels, counting and spelling skills. Lots of folks have participated in group activities, games, sensory input/output and improving com- munication with others. Several individuals chose to also go to various local parks for nature walks, picnics, and green therapy. Carolyn tried something new and chose to attend a quilting class held at Roby. Several individuals chose to take trips to Erwin Fish Hatchery and Bays Mountain to learn about the animal habitats and various jobs at these locations. Green Terrace Marcus had a great time going out

for one of his favorite meals of piz-za. He spent some time at Bay’s

Mountain looking at the animals and having a great time.

Richard went on visits with his family and had wonderful times

relaxing and napping in his swing. Mark M., who loves pizza, went

out to Little Caesars after going to the animal shelter. He enjoyed

celebrating his birthday with friends. Mark went to see a movie and then

out to eat. The Green Terrace gents like to go

to the river to watch the fish jump out of the water. They went to

Bay’s Mountain Park, on walks at local parks, picnics, out for favorite

meals and helping around their house. They really enjoy relaxing

on the carport at home or watching a movie in their favorite chairs in

their living room.

Hart House Dustin purchased a new dresser and he did a great job of folding and

arranging his clothing in the dresser. He celebrated his birthday and had

a wonderful time. Dustin collected and recycled 170 pounds of alumi-

num cans, some of which he got when he visited his friend Rick.

Travis R had a wonderful adven-ture going to Dixie Stampede with

his friend Hayes. They had pictures taken and enjoyed their wonderful

Burkey

After a great cup of coffee from McDonalds, Paul went on a ride

through a local park. He had fun watching one of the Chipmunks

movies. Paul thinks going to Wal-Mart to “people watch” is a

great past-time. Mike S. recently enjoyed a

Mango Smoothie before taking a cruise through Hardin’s Park.

He has a new radio and is really enjoying listing to his favorite

tunes. After a Frosty, Hobert had a

great time taking a van ride through his community to see

the sights. He enjoys going to the park to relax.

Alvin helps out with household chores and is awesome at taking

his dirty clothes to the laundry. He enjoyed a trip to the dam to

watch the water and see the birds that hang around. Alvin

had fun going out for a delicious smoothie.

The Burkey guys enjoy sitting on their porch in the fresh air while

watching the birds visiting their well stocked bird feeder. Every-

one enjoys cooking out to cele-brate the 4th of July.

Creekside

Betty had fun picnicking at Har-dins and Kinser Parks. She also

had a great time visiting The Life Care Center. Betty likes to

watch the Lifetime Movie Chan-nel and of course Wrestling. Debbie L. went to the Rec

Center and had a great time. She also went on several picnics.

She is doing a great job assisting with household chores. Debbie

had an awesome time celebrat-ing her birthday.

CVTC

Individuals have been on many

several community rides. They

enjoyed a picnic at Mosheim Park on Memorial Day and had many

more outings to local parks for picnics. Everyone likes to go to

church on Sunday afternoon.

Marshall Karen enjoyed a refreshing treat

during a recent outing to Pelican Snowballs.

Nancy F. ran into an old friend while she was at a local park and

enjoyed a short visit with them. Sherry had a nice meal at

Ryan’s while on a community outing.

The ladies of Marshall have been in and around their community

on numerous occasions. They have been out for ice cold Peli-

can Snowballs, great meals and visits to local parks. They enjoy

socializing in their hometown community.

Meadowbrook

Mark B. has had a fun filled spring and early summer going to

some of his favorite parks for picnics. He spent his Thursday evenings enjoying Lyrics on the

Lawn during the month of July. He liked visiting Erwin’s Fish

Hatchery. Jon M. enjoys going to local car

lots looking at the latest models and meeting interesting salespeo-

ple. Jon likes to go to the rec center. He had fun visiting Pan-

ther Creek State Park. Michael L. went on nature

walks, picnics and outing to sev-eral local area parks. Michael

had a nice time going out for coffee with his Coffee Club.

Everyone enjoyed a trip to Bay’s Mountain Park. Mark and Mi-

chael had fun going to a movie. The guys like to go the YMCA

on weekends to swim or partici-pate in activities in the gym.

They also like to attend church services on Sunday afternoons.

Mountain Terrace

Darla had some really awesome visits from her family and en-

joyed going out to eat with them.

The Johnson Place gentlemen have been out for several mov-

ies including Superman. They also like to picnic and have

been to some of their local parks. Billy and Travis really

enjoy participating in the Bell Choir.

King Springs

Danette has been picking out and purchasing items to deco-

rate her room. She has a very good sense of style and loves

to shop for many different items. Danette received a new

radio and head phones from her Aunt Sondra.

Jesi got some snazzy new blouses on a recent shopping

trip. She loves watching mov-ies and listening to music.

Joseph loves visiting with his parents on weekends. He uses

his calendar to count down the days until they come to pick

him up. Joseph likes to shop for bargains at the Dollar

Store. Amy went shopping and bought some new clothes. She

likes to go the accessory de-partment and try on sunglasses.

Maplewood

Melissa celebrated her birth-day and enjoyed receiving gifts

and a very nice card from her aunt. She purchased a new bed

and dressed it up with a new comforter that she picked out.

Tammy enjoyed a trip to Bay’s Mountain to see the ani-

mals and the sights. She went to several parks and had lots of

fun while on picnics. She is very proud of herself for

achieving better health. Ben’s mother took him out

for a very special birthday lunch. She also brought all of

Ben’s housemates a Frosty in celebration. He enjoyed visit-

ing the Andrew Johnson Muse-um. He has been doing a fan-

tastic job helping to do his laundry.

She likes to help prepare meals at

home and is a fantastic help. Darla likes to participate in Bell

Choir. Shirley is a great help in the

kitchen. She is learning to help cook meals and has a fun time

participating. Shirley is a tremen-dous help when it comes to doing

her laundry. Participating in Bell Choir is one of Shirley’s favorite

activities. Carolyn assisted with the wash-

ing of her hair and did a fantastic job. She had a wonderful birth-

day celebration with her friends who sang Happy Birthday to her

while she danced. Everyone enjoyed outings to the

park and around their communi-ty.

Oakhaven

Clark was very happy when his family came and brought him lots

of homemade treats. His mom is a fantastic pie maker and he al-

ways looks forward to her pies. Clark enjoyed eating at “Cook-

Out”. Burney has a favorite restaurant that he loves to visit for really

great food so he goes to Ryan’s just as often as possible.

MT likes to attend church on Sunday afternoons. He also likes

to go the gym to play basketball. He had a wonderful time socializ-

ing at the Kingsport Fun Fest.

O’Brien DJ always looks forward to his

visits from his Aunt Til. One of his favorite outings is to go for ice

cream. The farmer comes out in Steven

S. whenever he visits Tractor Supply. It seems to be one of his

favorite places to visit. Mikie went on several family

visits one of which he celebrated his birthday. He is having a great

time at summer school. One of Mikie’s favorite things to do is to

utilize his swing in his backyard where he spends most of his free

time. Erik loves summer time and gets

to do one of his favorite past times, lay on the fragrant grass

and soak up some rays of relaxing

sunshine.

Rockhaven

Allen really enjoys his independ-ence in making day to day choices.

He likes to relax outside whenever possible.

One of Robert’s favorite things to do is to head out to Hardin’s Park

and have a picnic. Family is very important to Russell

and he loves visiting with them and he likes sending cards to his sister.

He is working on being more inde-pendent in his daily living.

The Rockhaven gentlemen really enjoy hanging out together on their

back porch relaxing in their rocking chairs or going to the park to do

some “people watching”.

Shadybrook Joey S’s favorite recording artists

are Reba and Shania Twain and he loves to listen to their music. Going

to Dollar General and Walmart to shop is a favorite past time for Joey.

When making salads, Daniel picks out items that he really likes to add

to his tasty creation. Taking walks around his neighborhood and around the VA facility grounds

makes Daniel feel healthy. Michael M. enjoys visiting with his

dad whenever possible. Going out for a snack and a walk around the

VA facility is one way Michael stays fit and healthy.

Tennyson’s family came for a visit and to celebrate his birthday. He

had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the time they spent togeth-

er. Going for snacks or meals is a fun outing for Tennyson.

Sparmill

Nathan had a wonderful time when he went to Gatlinburg with his fami-

ly. He was on “Cloud 9” when he got to go on stage and sing with Bill

Gaither during a performance. Jason is working on his farming

skills and has planted more vegeta-

bles in his garden. He hopes to have a great harvest. Jason en-

joyed going to the Erwin Festival with one of his friends.

David’s Mom, Aunt and Cousin came to visit for David’s birth-

day. They had a wonderful time and brought him gifts and bal-

loons which he thought were great.

Warm weather is Steve’s favor-ite kind of weather. He likes to

be outside taking evening walks and going to local parks. He

recently went out for some yum-my chicken and fixin’s at KFC.

Spruce Pine

John Pe., as always, had a fan-tastic time with his family while

visiting at his sister Caroline’s home. On a recent visit he tried

his hand at mowing the lawn and Caroline reported that he quick-

ly became a pro. He has had fun compiling items for his church

scrapbook and thanks everyone that provides items.

Chris M. continues to have fun working at his janitorial job at the rest area meeting lots of

wonderful people. He is a terrif-ic helper with the household

grocery shopping. He had a blast visiting with his family to

celebrate his birthday. Barry always looks forward to

weekend swimming or gym at the YMCA. He had a wonderful

visit with his family and went swimming. Barry is a tremen-

dous help putting away groceries after the shopping is done.

The Spruce Pine guys enjoyed going on several van rides

around their community. They find lounging outside their home

during the evening hours is a perfect way to relax at the end

of a long day. On weekends they like to attend church ser-

vices, go to the YMCA and out to various parks for picnics and

relaxation. Everyone helped Chris celebrate his birthday.

Tusculum

Melinda T. is very helpful when she brings her laundry to the

taking out the household trash. She enjoyed receiving a card

from her mother whom she had sent a card.

When shopping for household supplies, Deborah does a fan-

tastic job locating the laundry detergent. She can measure

the detergent and softener when she does her laundry.

One of Brenda’s favorite eat outs is to go to Taco Bell were

she loves the Cinnabons. She always enjoys chatting with the

cashier and fellow patrons while eating.

Diane has enjoyed meeting new people and is making new

friends. After a trip to Johnson City Diane had a hard decision

as to which flavor milkshake she wanted and she made a great

choice when she picked straw-berry.

Everyone has fun going to the park and spending time in the

shade during these warm days. The ladies take advantage of the

nice weather to grill out in their own backyard.

Wexler

Scottie really likes to go for walks at the park. He enjoyed

seeing the streams flowing though Davey Crockett State

Park. He also liked going to the Railroad Museum.

James W. did some shopping for some new summer sunglass-es and picked out a great pair.

He liked purchasing his own drink and filling his cup from the

“Machine of Many Choices” at McDonald’s.

Thomas E. was surprised and very excited when his new re-

cliner arrived. He is learning about healthy snacks he can

make or get while on outings. He likes to pick out books from

the library and movies from Popcorn Video.

Edwin did some shopping for items of his choice and really did

great. He absolutely enjoyed a delicious triple chocolate chip

chocolate cookie on a recent outing.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious

meal from Cracker Barrel that they took to Newport City

Park to eat. Going for ice treats at Pelican Snow Balls is a

favorite for the guys. The guys have had several outings to the

park for cookouts, picnics and snack-outs where they enjoyed

the sunshine and fresh air.

Whirlwind John Pa. is a wonderful help

around the house and helping with grocery shopping. He

really enjoys visiting with his mother for overnight stays. He

enjoyed running across an old friend while shopping at Wal-

Mart. Chris C. helps with the mak-

ing of meals by pouring ingredi-ents and stirring them togeth-

er. He has been out on several outings especially for his favor-

ite apple pies. Michael B. likes to frequent

Dunkin’ Donuts whenever possible and he always enjoys

socializing with their staff. He is doing a great job learning to

do his laundry. Billy Ba. is a tremendous help

when it comes to doing house-hold chores. He likes to go to

Pelican Snowball for a cold treat.

The guys like to relax at home while watching movies.

Willow On Memorial Day, Nancy R.

went to Veteran’s Park and Monument Hill where she

learned about the veterans that fought for us to have freedom.

She has been a great help when it comes to preparing meals at

home. Nancy enjoyed visiting with her brother while attend-

ing church. Lori Ann is very excited to be

working during the summer at the 4-H Camp. She is also

wonderful at helping to wash and fold clean laundry at home.

She had fun going to the flea market.

Melinda S. has started an exercise program to help build

her strength. Since their birthdays were so

close together, Nancy and Lori

Ann decided to celebrate their

birthdays with one large party. They had great fun and enjoyed

having their friends attend.

Woodlawn Clyde does a fantastic job cleaning

the kitchen table after meals and is very proud of his accomplishments.

While in the community several folks have recognized his famous

smile that can be seen on the huge Comcare Billboards.

Charles is awesome at helping to keep his home tidy. He had an

awesome visit from his brother and sister. They all enjoyed their visit

and look forward to getting togeth-er again.

Joey H. celebrated his birthday and really enjoyed visiting with his sister

and family members. Everyone had a good time visiting

local parks where they had a pizza picnic and topped it off with ice

cream from the Ice Cream Truck that passes through the park. They

enjoy having meals out and going to church services. The Woodlawn

gents met the Maplewood folks at Burger King and had a great time

eating together.

Wykle Andrea recently chose to go out

to Pizza Inn for a great meal. Linda went out for pizza and en-

joyed her meal. Kathy had a ball going to Dolly-

wood to watch lots of entertaining shows and rides. She recently went to see Clint Black in concert.

The ladies of Wykle had many fun outings and picnics at local parks.

Comcare Happenings

Individuals had a wonderful time playing games,

riding exciting rides and enjoying a fantastic

meal that was provided for them.
