AIM OF BASKETBALL
• The aim of basketball is to shoot the ball in the opponent’s basket.
• The players are able to pass, dribble and roll the ball down the court.
• The team who scores the most points win.
RULES OF BASKETBALL
• You are not able to run with the ball.• You are not able to bounce the ball and pick it up
and bounce it again.• You can not stay in the key for three seconds.• You can shoot out of the three point line which is
three points.
EQUIPMENT USED IN BASKETBALL
You need a basketballRing , backboard and a leather basketball.
ORIGINS• Basketball originated in America in 1891. • James Naismith invented the game.• He was a teacher and he had to think of
a game which was able to be played inside.
• At first there was thirteen rules to go with the game.
• At first they played with a soccer ball.
PLAYING SURFACE• Usually they play on
wooden floors.• The floor are highly glossed. • The floors have lines
printed on the wood.• One ring at each end• The court is 25 metres long
and 15 metres wide.
LEADING OLYMPIC COUNTRYS
• The last ten years America have won the Olympics.
• Except in 2004 Argentina won gold.• In 2004 Australia in woman's
basketball came 2nd.
AUSTRALIAN REPRESENTATIVES
• Andrew Gaze represented Australia in Men's basketball.
• Glen Savell has also represented Australia in basketball.
• Andrew Bogut was also chosen to represent Australia
