13TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 28, 2020

THE VISITATION COLLABORATIVE

From the Pastor

Alexis de Tocqueville was a French aristocrat, diplomat, political scientist, and historian who wrote a fa-mous book called Democracy in America. In that book he is commenting on the young United State and its novel setup for democracy. At one point he writes, “Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor mo-rality without faith.” He rightly points out that without faith in God the democracy would fail.

As we are preparing to celebrate the Independence of the United States next Saturday, we are reminded that in order for our nation to flourish, Catholics must live our Catholic faith actively. In baptism, every person is given the gift of faith. The gift of faith (1) seeks to understand what we believe and (2) needs nourishment from God’s grace in the Sacraments. To understand our baptismal faith it is so important that we think about, ask questions about, and read about our Christian faith in God. At the same time, growing in faith does not totally depend upon us, it requires God’s help (His grace) that is given to us in the Sacraments. As we return slowly to full community worship at Mass, so the faith in our collaborative will be strengthened.

It is good for the United States that we are returning to Confession and the Mass because our growing and living faith is what results in active charity for our fellow citizens. We read in the letter of St. James “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?” (James 2:14) When our baptismal faith is cared for in this way, it leads to living like Christ which is good for Democracy.

I have been able to thank people at Mass but I also want to thank all those who have continued to support the parishes financially. Your fellow parishioners and I are grateful for your financial support in our shared mission. Please visit the parish website, either (https://www.visitationmilton.org/donate-info ) or ( https://smhmilton.churchgiving.com/ ) to sign up for online giving.

We are starting our religious education sign-ups. If your child or grandchild is new to the program, please contact Mrs. Denise Ilacqua([email protected]) for PreK-5th or Mr. Will Rein ([email protected]) for 6th-10th grade. If your child was in the program last year, you should be getting a message through the Flocknote messaging system.

For all parishioners, if you are not on Flocknote yet, we do suggest that you sign up for it. Much of our com-munication is happening through this messaging system.

Here is a quote that I saw was attributed to St. Elizabeth of Portugal. Her feast day is normally July 5th in the Unit-ed States. “If you love peace, all will be well.”

A blessed week to all.

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque's prayer taken from the book "Devotion To The Sacred Heart" by by Fr. John Croiset, S.J.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, to Thee I consecrate and offer up my person and my life, my ac-tions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honoring and glorifying Thee. This is my irrevocable will, to belong entirely to Thee, and to do all for Thy love, renouncing with my whole heart all that can displease Thee.

I take Thee, O Sacred Heart, for the sole ob-ject of my love, the protection of my life, the pledge of my salvation, the remedy of my frailty and inconstancy, the reparation for all the defects of my

life, and my secure refuge at the hour of my death. Be Thou, O Most Merciful Heart, my justification before God Thy Father, and screen me from His anger which I have so justly merited. I fear all from my own weak-ness and malice, but placing my entire confi-dence in Thee, O Heart of Love, I hope all from Thine infinite Goodness. Annihilate in me all that can displease or resist Thee. Im-print Thy pure love so deeply in my heart that I may never forget Thee or be separated from Thee.

I beseech Thee, through Thine infinite Good-ness, grant that my name be engraved upon Thy Heart, for in this I place all my happiness and all my glory, to live and to die as one of

Thy devoted servants. Amen.

St. Mary of the Hills Perpetual Candle

Light a candle in memory/honor of someone or for a particular intention. They are a great way of inviting others to pray for your intention and to let others know that they are being prayed for here at St. Mary of the Hills.

Another way to use these candles is to have one lit in honor of a recently deceased family member or friend instead of sending flowers. The parish would send out a card letting the family know that their loved one is being re-membered with our candle here at the church.
