My name is Sabeena and I was born in the city of Karachi, located

across the waters of the Arabian sea. After completing medicine, my

interest in preventive medicine led me to pursue social sciences.

Living in a country which has a GDP of less than 2.0 percent

allocated for health and a huge burden of diseases, I realized the

significance of finding cost effective ways for providing health care

for as many people as possible. My thesis was about the status of

women’s health in low income settlements. With an interest to

understand how research is translated to policy, I travelled far away

from home and studied health policy and management at Harvard

University.

Now as an Assistant Professor in Community Medicine at the Dow

University of Health Sciences, I feel the need to expand my

knowledge in issues of global health and infectious diseases and

hence I am delighted to be a part of University of Edinburgh. I am

looking forwards with great enthusiasm to my next few years of

learning and hope to apply all that I have learnt , to the improvement

of health for people in my country.

My research interests are women’s health, global health, ID and

health policy.
