Your t i l ler has been factory assembled with the exception of the hitch. To attach the hitch, remove the cotter key and washer from the pu l l p in on the front of mounting bar Part No. 4313, insta l l swivel block Part No. 5 394, replace washer and cotter key ..
To fasten to the tractor remove tractor h itch pin, insert ti l ler tongue Part No. 5398, then replace hitch pin.
LU BRICATION
There is NO OIL i n the crankcase of the engine when sh ipped from the factory. Read engine ma nua l and fo l low a l l instructions perta in ing to the type of fuel and l ubrication specified. (NOTE: The engine carries a separate warra nty by the engine manufacturer. For engine service, contact your loca l authorized engine service headq uarters .. )
The ti l ler gea r box has been fi l led with one pint of No. 90 gea r l ube at the factory. Check oi l level before operation and every 25 hours of operation, add oi l i f necessary.
To check oil level, ra ise t i l ler to the up or travel pos ition, remove pipe plug Part No. 1 0 1 3 on the front of gea r box. Gear box should be fi l led to the level of plug with No. 90 gear lube.
Extensive use of sea led-for- l ife bearings have been employed to reduce maintenance, therefore no other l ubrication is requ ired.
OPERATION
The t i l ler is ra ised a n d lowered by using the tractor l ift lever or hydra u l ic control. Depth is controlled by

the forward speed of the tractor, a slow speed resu lts in deep t i l l ing a nd faster speeds result in sha l lower t i l l ing. (NOTE: To use the t i l ler for cu ltivation, the forward speed should be adjusted so that the u n it wi l l not t i l l too deep.) I n sod or heavy soi l it may be necessary to go over the ground 2 or 3 times before it is ready to pla nt. In hard, d ry or rocky soi ls, the ti l ler will bounce. This is a design feature of this u n it and should cause no a larm. However, under some cond itions, it may be necessa ry to add weight to the t i l ler. There are two brackets ava i lable for this purpose, bracket Part No. 4321 which attaches the tractor front weight Part No. 4065, or bracket Part No. 4309, which wi l l hold a standard concrete block.
During the first few hours of operation, the t i l ler gear box may run hot. This is normal with worm gear drives and is not harmfu l . As the gears wear in, the gear box wil l run cooler.
When not using the t i l ler, it is advisable to disengage the clutch to rel ieve the tension on the belt.
After using t i l ler the first time, check a l l bolts to make sure they have not become loose, and retighten if necessary. To change belt, first remove top plate, Part No .. 4308, to gain access to drive. Unhook spring from clutch a rm . Unscrew shoulder bolt, Part No. 1 392, and remove clutch arm with idler pu l ley and clutch rod. The belt ca n now be removed. Insta l l the new belt by fol lowing reverse procedu re. Be sure the pul leys a re in proper a l ig nment and replace top plate.

(8) Service engine by using Engine Instruction Book ..
(C) Mount hitch assembly to bottom of case and top hole in housing carrier .. Bolts will be in hitch .. (Item # 1 ) ..
ASSEMBLING SPEED REDUCTION
(A) Mount speed reduction unit to the right hand frame rail using the two rear holes directly under the engine crankshaft .. (Item #2) ..
(8) Remove the 29" belt from the tractor and install the 34" belt

INSTRUCTIONS to the 21/2" pulley on the speed reduction unit and to the 4" pulley on the tractor.
(C) Place the 29" belt on the 21/2" pulley on the engine to the 7" pulley on the speed reduction unit ..
(D) Readjust clutch idler for proper clutching, if necessary, and mount shield.
(E) On '57 thru '59 tractors, the clutch system will have to be converted to '60 models to use tiller mount .. Use idler conversion assembly #CC-60.
(I) Now slide tiller hitch into the hole on speed reduction unit. (Item #3).
(J) Slide remaining plate over left hand side and bolt in place as you did right hand unit ..
(K) Top clevis will slide directly into the tractor hitch and you are now ready for tilling .. (Item #4) (Read operating instructions first) ..

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
(A) To start Engine, first make sure clutch is disengaged and
push choke to choke position .. (Never over-choke)
(B) Adjust hand throttle to desired running speed and mount
tractor before engaging clutch ..
CAUTION: Never have hands or feet close to tines when tiller
is running
(C) You are now ready to till.. Lower tines into ground by using
hand lever .. After tiller is at desired depth, a maximum of 4",
engage tractor clutch and you are on your way
(0) You will find after you have run tiller for several hours that
it will be necessary to readjust the tiller clutch, as a new belt
will stretch at first, and it is very important that the belt is
reasonably tight as slippage will burn the belt and cut into the
pulleys.
(E) In very hard ground, you may find it necessary to go over
ground twice, in order to cut up soil fine ..
(F) Never run over stony soil fast as tiller will withstand more
than the operator .. In normal operation, low gear should be used
Avoid all sharp turns with tiller in ground.
(G) It may be necessary to add extra weights to front of tractor
to counter-balance tiller. See your dealer and order FW-40 front
weight package. This may also be used in conjunction with snow
plow and snow caster ..
(H) When turning at end of field if it is necessary to put tractor
in reverse, make sure tiller clutch is disengaged
(I) Under normal conditions you will find that on going over the
ground the first time you can reach a depth of 5", but by going
over twice it is possible to obtain a depth of 8"" (J) Tiller clutch adjustment:
(A) Remove shield.
(B) Remove belt.
(C) Remove cotter key from Idler Link Pin.
(O) Remove Idler Bar by unscrewing bolt from Engine.
(E) Now turn Idler Link Pin out to desired take-up and
reassemble.
(K) If necessary to remove Engine always make sure the pulleys
are in perfect alignment when reassembling.
(L) It is important that the operator does not over load tiller for
first run until worm and gear get run in and tines get polished.
LUBRICATION INSTRUCTIONS
(A) Crank case of tiller is filled at the factory and should need
no oil unless after continuous operation, the seals get worn and
oil leaks out.. If so, replace worn seals and fill crankcase to
Filler Hole with No .. 90 oil.
(B) For engine, read engine instruction book.
(C) Idler pulley has a sealed bearing and will need no grease ..
(O) You will note one zerk on speed reduction unit, which should
be greased at least once a day ..

O PE R A T I O N
First decide whether or not cu ltivator is going to be used between the rows or to straddle them.
If i t is to be used between the rows, place (4) shovels on the front frame equal ly spaced with one on each end.
P lace (3) s hove ls on back frame, (1) i n center and one directly behind each wheel .
When strad d ling rows eliminate the center shovel on the rear a n d set the ( 2) midd le shovels on front frame beside the row. Be carefuL not to set too close to avoid cutting roots off of plant.

C. With the long section of the lift arm ass/yo Part No. 5581 pointed forward, place it in the hole of the front frame ass'y. and secure with hairpin cotter Part No" 933 50 5�4. P lace the other end into the first hole of the tractor lift lever a n d secure with hairpin cotter. D. Place rear frame into tractor hitch using tool pin to secure.
E. I nsta l l and adjust shovel standa rds a n d shovels to desired cultivating depth.
The two short sta ndards (Part 76 59) are required on the front frame, two inside shovels, on the Raider and Charger models.
The depth is adjusted by moving the standards up or down. Make sure screws on the clamps a re tight.
U nder norma l u se cultivator should be set to cu ltivate 2" to 3" deep, so as not to d ry soil out, or on ly deep enough to cut weeds.
U nder extreme conditions when soil is hard, pressure may be a pplied to front bar by resting feet on frame.
Weig hts may be added to rear frame as desired.

A SSEMBL Y (FRAME) 1. Following I l l u stration, insert 2 spacers (Part #3354)
thru holes in Hitch Assembly (Part #3350). lay one frame chan nel on each side of Hitch Assembly with spacers in place, and insert 2 carriage bolts thru chan nels and Hitch Assembly. Insert 2 more spacers between cha nnels at end opposite Hitch and insert carriage bolts thru cha nnels and spacers. Assemble pla in washer, lock washer and nuts to carriage bolts and fi nger tighten.
2. Assemble Tie Straps, (Part # 3353) to center channels at Hitch end with carriage bolts, lock washers a n d nuts.
3 . Assemble outer frame cha nnels to Tie Straps (Part #3353).
4. Fol low i llustration for essembly of adjusting ba rs, shovel sta ndards, and ga uge wheels.
5 . After assembl ing frame pa rt; tighten a l l bolts.
(WE DGE L OCKS)
1. I n sert shovel sta ndard thru hole in sta ndard keeper. (Fig. 1).
2. I nsert keeper, with sta ndard in place, thru slot in cha n nel, (F ig. 2) . Be sure that shovel or gauge wheel sta ndards are on the notched side of cha nnel . Adjusting ba rs may be assembled on either side of cha n nel.
3. With sta nda rd in desi red position; (Fig. 3), hammer wedge downward u nti l sta ndard is secured. Three or fou r sharp blows on wedge a re recommended to fi rmly seat Wedg e, Keeper, and Standard.
4. To remove or re-position Standards, l ightly tap wedge up-ward unti l loose. NOTE: DO NOT grind off or remove cu rved end of Wedge since is prevents Wedge from popping out when tapped loose.

5. Set a l l shovels to run stra ight with the d irection of travel . F ina l ad justments wi l l depend on ground conditions, runn ing depth, and operator's desires.
6. Gauge Wheels, when used, shou ld be set to run approximately 2" sha l lower than tips of Shovels.
O P ER A T I O N
This versati le Cu ltivator ca n be used to straddle the row or work between rows. In most conditions, the Cu ltivator shou ld be set up as shown in View I . The wing nut and the two wedge locks on adjusting ba rs, (Part #3355) a l low qu ick widening or na rrowing of Cu ltivator frome for different row widths or for changing from straddle row to between row cu ltivation . By s l iding wing nut bolt forward or backwa rd, outer frame cha n nels ca n be readi ly moved in or out. Always keep adjusting bars in one of last three notches of outer frame cha nnel for maxi m u m frame reg id ity. The extra Sta ndard and Shovel m ust be mou nted between center frame cha nnels for between row work.
For n u rseries or gardens where row centers ca n be spaced 40 inches or wider; and tractor ca n work easily between rows, the Cu ltivator ca n be reversed as shown in View I I . Aga in, the extra Standard and Shovel should be used.
Wedge locks al low q u ick adjusting or repositioning of shovels, gauge wheels and other asseccories.
Add itiona l weight is not normal ly needed for cu l tivating l ight soi l . However, i t is necessary when soil t' .... , .. , is heavy, crusted, a n d/or thickly weeded. To improve cu ltivator penetration a n d stabi l ity, an 8" x 8" x 1 6" concrete building block shou ld be attached to center fra me cha nnels with furnished � x x l l � carriage bolt, strap and wing nut.

PARTS LIST AND INSTRUCTIONS A S SEMB L ING
The cultivator is shipped complete in one carton.
Mount the side rails to the center rails, They may be
mounted in either the inside or outside set of holes,
depending on the work to be done. Now mount the
adjusting plates on the center rail. Fasten the ad
justing arms to the side rail and the adjusting plates
as shown. Now mount the shovel and standard
assemblies and gage wheels.
ADJUSTMENTS AND OPERAT ION
The width of the cultivator is adjusted by loosen
ing the center bolt in the adjusting plates and sliding
the plates forward or backward. Additional width
may be obtained by using the outer set of holes.
The depth may be controlled with the gage wheels.
Note: KEEP ALL NUTS TIGHT.
There is provIsion for a center shank which may
be used for between row cultivating and furrowing.
Remove one front shank and move the other into
the slot between the center rail.

The plow is sh ipped in two cartons. One carton has the p low base assembly a n d the cou lter assembly with a bag of parts. The other carton contains the beam assembly.
AS S E MBLING T H E P P-87 P L O W
Replace the adjusting rod-R.H., which was removed for shipment, in the rear vertical member. Bolt the vertical member to the plow base, with the bolts suppl ied. Adjust the cou lter in accordance with the depth at which you a re going to p low.
ASSEMBLING RC-10 COULTER The rol l ing cou lter is shipped complete in one
package. It is attached to the p low with the clamp provided at the front of the plow beam, d irectly above the p low point. When correctly set it will cut the sod and a l low the plow to turn a clean furrow.
LUBRICA TlON There is on ly one g rease fitting, and this is located
on the cou lter hub.
Before starting to p low, apply grease to coulter.
Use machine oi l on the threads of adjusting rods.
When putting plow away, always wipe polished surface and coulter blade with g rease or oil to prevent rust.
PREPARING THE PLOW FOR USE The plow bottom must be cleaned so that d irt wi l l
s l ide off the mold-board without sticking. Wipe the polished surface with a rag soaked in turpentine, naptha or gasoline. An old brick or a pumice stone can a lso be used to remove the protective coating, but usually this is not necessary if soil is not too wet.
TO BEGIN PLOWING To turn the p low point into the ground when open
ing the furrow, use turnbuckle. After the dead furrow has been made, level the p low by running the right tractor wheels in the previous furrow and adjusting turnbuckle "A." When the right tractor wheels a re in the furrow, the plow is designed to run in the proper horizontal ang le.
For a 5 to 6 inch plowing depth, the cou lter should s l ice from 2 to 3 inches deep, but not deep enough to drag the hub.

PLOWING TIPS Lay out your field to be plowed, and if possible,
make it rectangu lar in shape, about 3 times as long as it is wide. NOTE: it is easier to p low a few long furrows than many short ones . . LEAVE SOME ROOM AT EACH EN D FOR TURNING YOUR TRACTOR. Start plowing by laying off a dead furrow as shown in the sketch below.
Begin at point PX" and plow a furrow to the end of your plot Fix your eyes on a tree or some distant object in line with the middle of the plot so that you con 3uide your tractor and plow a straight first furrow to point HA". NOTE: ALWAYS LIFT PLOW BEFORE TURNING, and, at point "B", lower it again and plow a dead furrow piling the dirt on top of dirt from the first furrow, When you return to point "X" and star' your real plowing with both the tracto,'s right wheels in the furrow at point "e", level out the plow with the turnbuckle" Plow in a clockwise direction, always LIFTING your plow 01 the end of the furrow before turning
SPEED Move steadi ly a l ong so that the earth will turn over
a n d not fall back into the furrow. In most soils, this is done at fu ll throttle in second gear.
In light soi ls, p lowing may often be done in high gear, but if you go too fast, you will get an uneven plowing job a nd the d irt is apt to be thrown instead of rolled over.

L U B RICATION There is on ly one g rease fitting, and this is l ocated

Before starting to plow, apply grease to cou lter.
Use machine oil on the threads of ad justing rods.
When putting plow away, a lways wipe polished surface and cou lter blade with grease or o i l to prevent rust.
PREPARIN G THE P LOW FOR U S E The plow bottom must be cleaned so that dirt wi l l
slide off the mold-board without sticki ng . Wipe the pol ished su rface with a rag soaked in tu rpentine, naptha or gasoline. An old brick or a p u m ice stone can also be used to remove the protective coating, but usually this is not necessary if soil is not too wet.
TO B EGIN P LOWING To turn the p low point into the g round when open
ing the furrow, use turnbuckle. After the dead furrow has been made, level the plow by runn ing the right tractor wheels in the previous furrow and adjusting turnbuckle "A." When the right tractor wheels a re in the fu rrow, the plow is desig ned to run in the proper horizontal a ngle.
For a 5 to 6 inch plowing depth, the cou lter shou ld sl ice from 2 to 3 inches deep, but not deep enough to drag the hub.

Begin at point "X" and plow a furrow to the end of your plot Fix your eyes on a tree or some distant obiect in line with the middle of the plot so that you can guide your tractor and plow a straight first furrow to point "A". NOTE: ALWAYS LIFT PLOW BEFORE TURNING, and, at point "B", lower it again and plow a dead furrow piling the d i rt on top of dirt from the first furrow, When you return to point "X" and start your real plowing with both the tractor's right wheels in the f u rrow at point " C " , level out the plow with the turnbuckle, Plow in a clockwise d i rection, always L I FTING your plow at the end of the furrow befo're turning,

frame assembly, pa rt #2985. Fasten in position with
shaft col lars, part # 1 085. I nsta l l wheels and secure
w ith cotter pins, part #932034-4.
Insta l l hand le assem bly, part #2997 by fastening
bottom hole to bracket on frame with /:i" x l " hex
head bolt, part # 908005-4. Next fasten latch bar,
part #2974 to the handle assembly and to the index pin, part #2353 with the two /:i" x 1 " bolts, part
# 908005-4 provided. (Note: Do not tighten nylock
n u ts, part # 9 1 5 1 1 1 -6 too tight as handle assembly
m ust p ivot.)

trip chain is then bolted to the la tch (E) with the K6 x % s tove bolt & Clevis lin k. The chain may be fastened to the seat on tractor with the toggle handle provided .

Place hopper on floor with s l iding scale mark plate down.
Fasten shut-off braces ( l ) to shut-off brackets with washer and cotter key.
Bolt operating lever (2) between concave ends of shutoff braces. Tighten n uts fi rm ly.
Remove lower nut from connecting rod (3). Insert connecting rod into pivot l ink (4) and replace nut, but do not tighten.
Move operating lever (2) upward to closed position. Adjust nuts on connecting rod (3) so shut-off bar touches both stops (5) on bottom of hopper. Now tighten nuts firm ly.
Assemble hitch braces (6) to hopper by inserting short bolts through flattened end of h itch brace, then through hopper. Place lock washers and nuts on bolts and tighten fi rm ly.
Bolt h itch (7) between concave ends of hitch braces. Note h itch can be turned in either an up or down position for h igh or low drawbars.
Rate setting is made by sliding scale mark plate (8) on back of hopper. loosen green knob and sl ide scale mark plate u ntil desired nu mber is in l ine with a rrow pointer. Tighten green knob.

OPERATION
Rate settings prescribed for various materia ls a re based on normal tractor mowing speed. If tractor is operated in low gear, then spreader should be set leaner (toward a smaller number) as more material is appl ied at a slower speed.
Plan to operate the spreader in the direction of the longer dimension of lawn.
First apply two spreader widths across the shorter sides. These "headers" provide room for turning around at end of each of the long strips.
Then go back and forth from one header strip to the other until the entire a rea is treated. When approaching these end zones shut off the spreader to avoid double application. Keep it closed while backing or turning a round to avoid extra dosage.
Next do the irregular areas, being careful to shut off spreader in backing and turning. Move the Sliding Dial to a leaner setting in cut-up areas where overlap is u navoidable.
If there are trees or shrubs in the lawn, shut off the spreader as it is pul led around them - otherwise adjacent grass may receive double or triple dosage. Use same care in treating slopes and terraces.
In high wind cover hopper with cardboard, burlap sack or heavy paper.
Overlap spreader wheel tracles 10 insure complele coverage.
CARE OF SPREADER
1 . Empty spreader com pletely before storing. To do this, move spreader away from lawn a rea a nd set wide open at No. 1 8. Run it back and forth vigorously a few times to expel a l l material from hopper.

2. Oil. Leave spreader in open position. Use aerosol Oil Spray or oily rag to apply oil to underside of hopper where shut-off plate moves back and forth. Also squirt oil on spring located in housing below Sliding Dial. Place a few drops of oil on axle between wheel and hopper, at each end. If this is neglected, wheels may lock because of rusting. Light penetrating oil will usually loosen.
