NOTE FROM PRESIDENT JOE CAREY A Note from the Advisory Committee President, Joe Carey

Welcome to May. May is a month with many special interesting facts. First off,

for all you history buffs, May was first named for Maia, the Roman goddess of

spring and growth. May's birthstone is the emerald which is emblematic of love

and success. May is also the month with the fewest number of letters and the

only month when you spell it backwards, actually spells a word, "yam". May is

also the last full month of Spring, and we all love Spring. Of course, we also all

love "Mothers Day" and some even look forward to "Cinco De Mayo". For the

horse racing fans out there, the Kentucky Derby is the first race that starts the beginning of the famed "Triple Crown". All in all,

May is a very special month.

Other things that make May a special month include all the activities, and special events happening at the Keyport Senior Center.

One of the highlights of May, we all look forward to, is the annual BBQ that will be held at the center on May 25th starting at

10:00 am. This is a fun event and is usually sold out years in advance. (OK, maybe I got carried away a bit). Anyway, for a good

time, make sure you sign up to spend time with your friends (old and new) and sample the great food cooked to perfection by our

Advisory Committee chefs.

Wishing you a great May!

BRICKS ARE AVAILABLE- (Forms available in hallway of the Center.) A “Walk of Memories” at the Senior Center – Check out our front walk. A great way to support the Center.

Why not join our “WALK OF MEMORIES” AT KEYPORT SENIOR CENTER

Your Memory just cost $50.00 per brick

Notes from Madeline…May 2017

This is Older Americans’ Month and I hope you have had the opportunity to sign up – as usual in the dining room - for the screenings: Hearing, Bone Density and Balance. Last minute historical trip to Thompson Park and Manasquan Reservoir is on Wednesday, May 3rd we still have 3 spots available, if anyone is still interested!! You still have time to sign up for Women of Song and our Annual Center BBQ since they are at end of the month, please see Lucy to sign up. The cost is $5 for each. You must sign-up by 5/17 and 5/18 respectively!! We are combining the month with National Pet Month by bringing in pictures of our pets (can be past or present), and on May 18, Sally, our Social Worker, will be doing a day of reminiscing about our pets, May 30th the SPCA will bring in therapy dogs and a cat at 11AM. Throughout the month we will be collecting donations for the SPCA; the list of requests in both dining room and hallway, and the boxes for your donations are located in the hallway as well. Also, join us for the movie “Homeward Bound-The Incredible Journey”. It’s been a bit of a transition period for me and the Center and I want to THANK EVERYONE for your kind words and faithfulness to the Center by asking me if I need any help that you are here for me.

HAVE A HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

A Story About My Mom My Mom was a great and wonderful mother. She was very kind and cared for everyone. Her motto was “if

you have nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all.” My mom had 7 children, the last 2 were twin boys. When we were older and in school all day, my mom went to nursing school to become a nurse. My father died when I was 3 years old on Christmas in 1942. I was very close to my mom. My sisters

and brothers called me “Mommy’s Little Girl.” “I Love You Mom”!! -Maureen (xxxooo)

National Nurses Week

5/8 – 5/12 Center

“Nursing staff exhibits caring hearts and healing

hands towards patients, doctors, and facilities.”
