School Photos

There were many smiling faces and well-

groomed children at All Saints on Tuesday.

The day ran well thanks to Michelle Gaffney and Angela

Ryan. This photo shows one section of the queue waiting

for family photos.

Book Week Books

I was in the library on Tuesday when 2R were listening to

Ms Cusano read Too Many Elephants in the House. This

was a popular story with this class for Book Week. Book

Critics and almost everyone have given it the thumbs up!

This is always an exciting time in schools with children and

teachers all talking about what they have liked and not

liked from the shortlists in the various categories. This

might be a good talking point in your household too.

School Visits

All Saints is often visited by other school leaders and

teachers to gain insight into our Reggio approach. The

feedback we receive is a wonderful reflection on our

hardworking teachers and their commitment to our

children’s learning. This week we had visitors from White

Friars who commented favourably on a number of our

practices and our beautiful environment.

Several of our staff members have been interstate over

the last few weeks and they shared these experiences at

our Professional Learning meeting this week. Natalie,

Rachel and Alicia attended the Reggio Emilia Conference

in Ipswich where they were able to affirm and refresh our

Reggio approach. Leah and I went to Bold Park

Community School in Perth and were impressed with their

outdoor learning spaces and play-based education theory.

Staff will reflect on these experiences and consider how

we might adapt some of them to suit the All Saints

environment.

Roundabout and The Loop

These areas continue to be of great concern. The safety of

the children is paramount as is the observance of the road

rules and being courteous drivers. We have been advised

that the police and parking inspectors have been notified

by members of the public that they are unable to go

through the roundabout because of drivers wishing to

enter All Saints. Drivers are queuing or going around and

around the roundabout waiting to enter the carpark and

thereby preventing other cars from driving through the

roundabout.

Once inside the gates cars need to be parked in The Loop

before children may get into cars. At no time should a car

be double parked with a parent urging a child to cross

between cars to get into their car as this is unsafe and

they are also holding up the traffic.

We understand that these areas are troublesome and

appreciate the many drivers who display patience,

courtesy and common sense. It is worth noting that just by

coming a little later you can avoid peak hour traffic, and

then park and pick up children without any hassles.

New Traffic Signals on Griffiths Drive

New Traffic signals have been installed at the intersection

of Griffiths Drive and the Seaford Railway Interchange

Access Road. These signals will be operational as of

Tuesday, 20 August. For more information please see the

notice on our school website.

Uniform Policy

This policy is accessible on the school website and is due

for review. If you have any comments or wish for changes

to be made you are invited to submit them by email to

[email protected]. Please do this by Friday,

16 August. Following this a revised policy will be drafted

and presented to staff and the School Board for discussion

and approval. Here is a link to the policy: http://

www.allsaints.catholic.edu.au/home/policies.

Parish 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Noarlunga/Seaford Parish is celebrating its 50th

Anniversary this year on Sunday 15 September so please

keep this date free. In the next couple of weeks you will be

hearing more about this and how All Saints and SEM will

be participating in the series of celebrations to mark this

special occasion.

RE News Mass: The Assumption of Mary

Mary was taken up into the glory of heaven

not only with her soul, but also with her

body. Jesus, the Son of God was born from

Mary's pure womb. When Mary died, God

would not let the body of the Mother of Jesus be spoilt. This

was her reward for her love of God and her years of faithful

prayers and suffering. The Assumption celebrates God’s

faithfulness to Mary in life and death. Now Mary is in

heaven, she is queen of heaven and earth.

On Thursday, 15 August a Whole School

Mass will be held at 11:30am in the hall,

where we will come together to celebrate

The Assumption of Mary into Heaven.

Please join us in honouring Mary.

The children have been preparing for the

Mass by engaging in a variety of

activities celebrating Mary’s faithfulness

to God. As we celebrate the feast day of

Mary, we can ask our Blessed Mother

Mary to guide, protect and care for us.

Sacraments: Baptism

Last week Father Fred and I met with

children and families that have decided

they would like to be baptised. The

workshop focused on preparing for

Baptism into the Catholic Church. The

children will be celebrating the

Sacrament of Baptism on Sunday, 25

August at the SEM.

Sacraments: Eucharist

Throughout the year a group of 22 children have been

involved in the Sacramental Program. In first term the

children celebrated their Reconciliation, last term they were

Confirmed into the Catholic Church and this term the

children will prepare for receiving Eucharist on Sunday, 22

September. Eucharist completes the initiation of the child

into the community. Workshops will be held to help prepare

the children and families for this Sacrament.

Workshop Dates:

Wednesday, 21 August Parents workshop at St John

The Apostle, 7:00-8:00pm

Wednesday, 4 September Parent and children

SAPSASA Soccer Knockout 2013 The Year 6/7 boys representing All Saints in the SAPSASA

knockout have gone and done it again!

Last Friday we travelled away to play the quarter final of the

southern draw of the competition. Our opponents were

Tatachilla Lutheran College and after a hard fought game

we came away 0-4 winners. Every player in the team did

their job and it was a tremendous performance to keep a

clean sheet against determined opposition, who never gave

up.

In the All Saints spirit we congratulated Tatachilla on their

attitude and the way they respectfully shook hands after

the game.

Finally we would like to thank Ronnie Sills, Craig Thompson

and Ali McDermott for helping out with travel

arrangements, running the line and the half time lolly

tradition. Without the great parent/carer help, games like

this are not possible.

We are looking forward to a great semi-final against

Craigburn Primary. Go All Saints!

CAMP QUALITY PUPPET SHOW

On Tuesday 31 July, the Camp Quality Puppet Show

came to All Saints. Every class had a chance to go

and see a wonderful performance in the hall. Below

are some comments from Year 5 students:

“It was funny and amazing to watch.” Connor (5RI)

“It was amazing and taught kids about Cancer.”

Luke (5RI)

“I liked how it taught kids that when someone is

mean to you, go and talk to them about it and

don’t be mean back.” Kayla (5RO)

“I liked the way the people swayed the heads and

moved their puppets around.” Lewis (5RI)

“I liked the message it taught you. Don’t bully

people, no matter what is different about them.”

Harrison (5RO)

“I liked the message that Laughter is the best

medicine.” Alannah (5RO)

Kitchen Garden Project Volunteers

Craig Goldfinch and I are looking for volunteers to help with

gardening, cooking or even art and craft activities.

If you can spare some time and are a registered volunteer

with a current Catholic Police Clearance, please email me or

contact me through the front office.

We would also greatly appreciate any donations of tools, pots,

equipment (cooking or gardening), potting mix or plants - so

feel free to let me know if you have anything to donate. At

the moment we are particularly looking for 2 litre plastic drink

bottles for a project that a group of Year 7 children are doing.

If parents/carers could please bring them to school and place

them in the green Garden Project bin provided near the

Community notice Board.

If you have any queries please email me on

[email protected] and put a

subject line of Garden Help.

Thank you in anticipation

The Italian Corner

Ciao a tutti, due settimane sono già passate!

Mamma mia, il tempo vola! (Hello to all, two

weeks have already passed! My, the time

flies!)

In questo momento (at this time), i bambini (the children)

have been learning about Il Mondo (The World). The younger

children have been looking at how Italians offer directions.

Each child has made their very own compass using the Italian

language. We have then used these

compasses to play games outside that

involve understanding Italian to

orienteer themselves.

Here are le direzioni (the directions) in

Italian: Nord (North). Est (East). Sud

(South). Ovest (West).

With the older children we have been spending time looking

at il mappamondo (the world map) and i sette continenti (the

seven continents). The children have been familiarising

themselves with both the map itself as well as the new

geographical vocabulary.

Alla prossima volta (Until next

time),

Il Signor Vaudo e

La Signora Pardoe

Welcome to the World

Congratulations to and Anna-Jayne (6E),

Cameron (3O) and Poppy (2R) who have a

new baby brother. Murray Lyall was born this

week weighing 7lb 1oz.

All the best to Anna-Jayne, Cameron, Poppy & their family.
