MASS ATTIRE!

Please remember that modesty, respect and good judgment in

your choice of dressing is very important

when attending mass or other church services.

Dresses, skirts and shorts should be near the knee. Off the

shoulder or low cut dresses or blouses, tank tops, muscle shirts

and tight fitting clothes are a sign of disrespect to the church.

The 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

June 21, 2020

All of today’s readings are packed with soul saving blueprints.

In our first reading from the Book of Kings, Elisha the prophet is

offered hospitality and rewards the woman by promising her that

“this time next year she would be fondling a baby son.” Sound

familiar? Abraham invites strangers to stay and have a meal

before continuing their journey, and before they continue their

journey, promise that Sarah will bear a son within a year. Could

this be how the Lord rewards people who show hospitality to

strangers? Have you ever encountered a stranger in your life and

been rewarded for that act of kindness? One never knows who

the homeless person we meet might be. Sometimes we help them,

and other times we tend to ignore them. What about the person

we see on street corners asking for help? Perhaps these are God

given opportunities for graces we might receive.

In our Responsorial Psalm, the Lord has made us many promises,

and so we should sing aloud, “Forever I will sing the goodness of

the Lord.”

Our second reading from Paul’s letter to the Romans is a great

reminder of the gifts we received at our baptism. We were

baptized into Christ and into his death. As a follower of Jesus, we

should strive to live our life worthy of attaining eternal salvation.

In today’s Gospel, from St. Matthew, Jesus tells us how much we

are to love him, more than father, mother, son, or daughter. We

all love our parents and our children, but we need to be more loyal

to Jesus.

What really caught my attention in today’s message were the

words, “whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is

not worthy of me.”

During this pandemic, we have all been burdened with many

crosses. The loss of visiting rights to our relatives in nursing

homes, elder care facilities, those in hospitals, and even properly

mourning for our beloved dead. Shopping trips are short and

stressful. We cannot or should not stop and visit with friends and

neighbors. Thanks to Father John, we can now attend Mass and

receive our Lord in Holy Communion, be it on the way out of

Church. To properly thank the Lord for coming to us, we do not

mingle and visit after Mass.

Let us all pray that things get back to normal soon, so that we can

travel, visit family and friends, go to Church normally, and get

back to the sacraments. As Father Francis Hoffman, Fr. Rocky,

says on Relevant Radio, we all need food to live though it may be a

short life. Our spiritual life needs the sacraments to help bring our

souls to an eternal life. Relevant Radio has been a blessing to us

during the last 3 months. We get the Holy Mass at 11 am, the

Divine Mercy Chaplet at 2 pm, and the Rosary each evening at 6.

With thousands watching and praying, many requests for prayer

go on air, and daily we hear of miracles that take place.

Have a Blessed Day.
