Now that you have joined, you might well be asking “what is ON Cycling Club?”. Well, let us start with our mission: to connect ONs, across generations and locations, through the sport of cycling. We will start with road cycling, but who knows how far this could go? Though most clubs charge for the privilege of joining, this one is totally free. Now, let me introduce myself. I am Andy Sallnow, and I am immensely proud to take on this new role of ON Cycling Ambassador. I know you might be thinking “but isn’t there another ON from ‘01 who would be way better qualified to take up the post? One with World Championship titles, Olympic medals, and numerous race wins to their name?”. The answer is obviously “yes”: Emma Pooley (99-01) is far more decorated, and equipped, to be Cycling Ambassador than I am. There is one key accomplishment that I have but Emma lacks, however: I emailed Rachel a few weeks ago about this! Whilst I boast a more modest palmarès of a top-30 performance in the Brompton World Championships, level 30 on Zwift (maybe 31 by the time you read this), along with an ever-diminishing trophy cabinet of Strava KOMs (please no one take them from me), I can tell you I plan to give my all in establishing ON CC. Along with a proud mission, we will need a number of things to legitimise this club. The first is club rides. I am proposing a Summer ride to coincide with ON Day, as well as regular Zwift rides. In time, there might be splinter rides organised by those living in far-flung places even more exotic than Norfolk or London, and we may even expand to overseas trips to the Alps, Pyrenees or the Dolomites, post-pandemic. We are extremely grateful to all our ON Ambassadors listed in the directory on the following pages. To become an ON Ambassador, please contact Rachel Lightfoot. Email [email protected] Phone: 07825 636973 / 01603 728431. Lastly, there is the all-important question of kit. In time, we will be decked out in an immaculately minimalist royal blue and burgundy jersey, which I am confident will leave us the envy of all the other alumni cycling clubs. But we will wait till we have a few members before we launch that... So, “where do I officially sign up?” I hear you shout authoritatively into your copy of the ON Magazine. Join the ON Cycling Club Private Facebook page (tinyurl.com/54rgpbbj) to be a part of the community. We will look forward to seeing you on the road. “Being successful doesn’t necessarily make you great; what makes you great is when you reach back and help somebody else become great!”

A warm welcome to all our new ON Ambassadors listed in the ambassador directory and to our Activity Ambassador, ON Andy Sallnow, for starting up a new ON Cycling Club.

industry/profession, or year group – Offer career guidance/work

experience/internships/jobs to ONs and pupils

– Bring together ONs with shared

interest in sports and activities and events

– Help plan networking events

and reunions – Involve contemporaries/ON friends in activities and events – Open doors to venues for networking

and social events – Be a point of contact in your area

UK or overseas – Help to find ‘lost ONs’ by

reconnecting them with the school – Offer expertise at careers/networking

events for pupils or by giving Futures Talks to the Sixth Form pupils

– Assist recent leavers moving

on to university

ON Cycling Club Andy Sallnow (97-01) Welcome to ON Cycling Club (ON CC). You are invited, and we are glad you are here.

Whilst I boast a more modest palmarès of a top-30 performance in the Brompton World Championships, level 30 on Zwift (maybe 31 by the time you read this), along with an ever-diminishing trophy cabinet

of Strava KOMs (please no one take them from me), I can tell you I plan to give my all in establishing ON CC.
