Melissa Flickinger

Melissa Flickinger, Director of PersonalCare for ODHC has her BSN from FloridaAtlantic University. She has been a nursefor 17 years and her passion is helpingpeople. Melissa most enjoys buildingrelationships with our clients and theirfamilies, and working with, "our great office

Diane Richardson received her NursingEducation right here in Virginia at theAlexandria Hospital School of Nursing.After getting her RN degree she worked atGeorgetown University Medical Center onthe Medical­Surgical Unit. She thendevoted her time raising and teaching herchildren before returning back into nursing.Diane joined the dedicated, caring team atODHC in August 2014. Family is a big partof her life ­ Diane has 5 children and 6grandchildren; she enjoys playing with hergrandchildren, watching her son play rugbyand football and cooking with her teenagedaughter. Diane is currently workingtowards getting her certification inGerontological Nursing. She shares, "I'vebeen blessed to be a part of severaldental/medical mission trips. I've been toBenin, Africa and Guatemala, CentralAmerica and hope to someday be part ofanother medical mission trip." Maricela Yeutter

Maricela Yeutter received her nursingdegree when she was in Los Angeles, CAand has had nursing positions inBangladesh, Ivory Coast, Germany andDisneyland. She knew she wanted to be anurse very early on...her mom volunteeredat a small free clinic when Mari was 5 yearsold ­ that is when she decided to become anurse! Mari loves to read nonfiction, watchscifi movies with her sons and all animalsand children. She says, "I've worked allover the world but at ODHC I have foundmy home, warm, caring and genuinefriends and lastly, I have been blessed withthe true love of my life." Kathy Phelps

Kathy Phelps received her Associate ofArts in Nursing, in 1973 from MaryvilleUniversity St. Louis, Missouri, and took aR.N. Refresher Course in 2009 at GeorgeMason University. In her 42 years of

nursing she has worked in the areas ofhome care, infectious disease, internalmedicine, urgent care, and communityhealth, to name just a few. Kathy knewearly that she wanted to be a nurse. Shesays, "I wanted to serve others, enjoyed thesciences and found medicine fascinating. Iwould describe myself as a "caregiver" typepersonality. There is a huge feeling ofsatisfaction when one can help another."She also shared that, "the owners, staff,nurses and caregivers at ODHC are justfantastic to work with. I've found everyoneto have a common goal of trying to helpimprove the quality of life for our clients.I've found the clients and their families tobe very welcoming, receptive andappreciative of the work we are doing forthem. Getting to know the clients andcaring for them is a privilege." Kathy hastwo children, a son in San Diego who hastwo little boys, ages 1 and 3, and adaughter here in Virginia who has a 3 yearold; Kathy loves playing with hergrandchildren and watching them grow. Asshe grew up in St. Louis, MO she is a hugeSt. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. Besidesher love of baseball, Kathy enjoys playingtennis and golf, being in a ladies book cluband dancing to Motown music. Priscilla Severson (pictured with daughterGabrielle, also an ODHC caregiver)

Priscilla Severson received her RN from the

State University of New York­Watertown in1992 and her BSN from the University ofNew Mexico in 2006. Before becoming anurse she was a nurses aide and a certifiedHome Health Aide. Priscilla has been withODHC for 5 years; her favorite part of herjob is, "getting to know the clients in theirown homes where they are surrounded bytheir own things, memories and stories thatthey in turn share." She has three childrenages 21, 17 and 14; Priscilla loves to visitthrift stores and travel in her spare time.

Belen Eshetu

Belen has attended both Northern VirginiaCommunity College, Medical LearningSchool and Radford University. Belen isinterested in helping people. She said that,"even though being a nurse is not an easyprofession, I don't see my self doinganything else; I love seeing people get well,be happy, and most of all being healed. Itmakes me happy in return! Belen came toODHC 6 years ago, and has worked parttime as she has also been attendingschool. She says, "ODHC has been myhome; I see Sue and Kenny like my ownfamily, they are very friendly, kind,respectful, understanding, thoughtful andflexible. I am proud to be part of ODHC as itcontinues to grow. Belen is originally fromEthiopia. She continues to enjoy takingclasses, working, going out to eat withfriends, watching movies and spending timewith family.

The week of May 6 ­ 12 was National NurseAppreciation Week...and Old DominionHome Care enjoyed helping celebratemany of the nursing teams we work without in the community as well as our ownfabulous,dedicated nurses. If you did notknow that it was Nurse Appreciation Weekat the beginning of the month, no worries ­wonderful and hard working nurses love tobe appreciated year round!
