This presentation will provide attendees with anoverview of pressure ulcer development, risk factors,prevention, staging, and treatment options. Guidelinesfor documentation will also be discussed.

Becoming a Trauma Informed organization requires a mindset change from asking the question, “What is wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?” This workshop will explore how we define trauma, trauma informed care and resilience as well as practical approaches for becoming a trauma informed organization. We will explore frameworks that can assist you in becoming a person centered agency.

Speaker: Judy Waechter, RN, CRRN, Clinical Liaison, Good Shepherd Hospice

When would a resident be appropriate for hospice? What does it mean when a resident is “on hospice?” What will the hospice do and how do we coordinate care with them? Learn why your long-term care facility should be partnering with hospice for your residents. This offering will explain hospice care including philosophy of care, eligibility criteria, benefits and services.

Health care today promotes the goal of self-care more than ever before. Self-care is therapeutic in sustaining life and health, in recovering from disease or injury, or coping with their effects. Health Care providers can be their own worst enemy when it comes to their personal health. We owe it to ourselves to demonstrate the same level of self-care that we promote to our patients. Participants will explore their current practices and identify ways to treat themselves well.

Interactive discussion about the Missouri Medical Marijuana legislation and what it means to healthcare employers and employees. We will look at the timeline for progress of medical marijuana in the State of Missouri and discuss policies and procedures for testing of employees.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 258:00 – 10:00 A.M.Managing Dementia–Related Behaviors in VA Long-Term Care Setting2.0 patient care hours

Speaker: Michael Palmer, PhD, ABPP, Staff Psychologist, Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital

This presentation will focus on two programs that the VA uses to address dementia-related behaviors; STAR-VA, an evidence-based protocol for behavior management in Community Living Centers, and Behavioral Recovery Outreach (BRO), a pilot program for addressing dementia- related behaviors of veterans receiving care in community settings such as VA-contract nursing homes, State Veterans’ homes, and at home with their families.

This session will focus on recent and upcoming regulatorychanges that have an impact on long-term care communities. Changes in both state and federal arenas will be discussed.

11:15 A.M. – 12:15 P.M.Don’t Let It Happen To You: Top Mistakes SNFs Make that Can Negatively Impact Accounts Receivable1.0 administrative hour

Speakers: Julie Bilyeu, Director of BKD Long-Term Care Billing Services & Jennifer Barboa, Member of BKD Health Care Billing Services

In this session, BKD accounts receivable specialists will discuss common mistakes that SNF providers make that can result in a negative impact on accounts receivable, including: claim denials; recoupments; and missed reim-bursement. We will discuss best practices that can be put in place to help avoid these pitfalls and discuss tips for monitoring accounts receivable so management can be proactive in identifying and addressing problems.

Cancellation: Should you need to cancel, we suggest finding a substitute and notifying us of the change.

There is a $50 non-refundable cancellation fee. No refunds for cancellations will be made less than five business days prior to the conference.
