Comments from the Sale Manager

Oklahoma Angus Gathering Sunday, May 2, 20102

Dear Angus Friends and Cattlemen:

On behalf of the Oklahoma Angus Association, welcome to the Eleventh Annual Oklahoma Angus GatheringSale, held in conjunction with the 2010 Oklahoma Angus Association Annual Meetings and Banquet.

I am very excited about the offering that we have assembled. Those of you who have attended past years’Gathering sales have had the opportunity to see outstanding Angus cattle from herds throughout the stateand surrounding area. The 2010 offering is likely the most exciting to date—from both a pedigree and pheno-typical perspective—since the event’s inception.

Oklahoma is fortunate to have many outstanding herds of Angus cattle. The genetics represented here aresecond to none. The pregnancies and embryos are from some truly elite donor females. This is indeed a well-balanced consignment, and quality is present throughout each class of females selling. You will see that thereis a deep set of spring and fall cow/calf pairs plus an extra nice set of open and bred heifers. Oklahoma Angusbreeders and our neighbors are sharing with you some of the best they have to offer!

Please make note of the new location for the Saturday evening festivities and plan to join your fellow breedersfor what promises to be a fun and educational weekend. The Gathering Sale will again be held at theOklahoma State University Purebred Beef Cattle Center Sale Facility west of Stillwater—where the OSUCowboy Classic is held.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Mark Johnson, Jeff Mafi and the rest of the OSU crew as wellas to Tim Stidham and the OBI crew for their efforts in preparing the sale facility and the help they provideeach year during The Gathering. It is my pleasure to continue working with Oklahoma Angus breeders whilecoordinating this sale, and I am very pleased, as I know you will be, with the offering assembled for May 2.

If you have any questions or if I may be of assistance prior to or at sale time, please give me a call.

Sincerely,

Matt C. Sims

This intriguing mating combines proven genetics with numerical quality for all measurable traits. Thedam of these embryos, Riverbend Blackcap R265, was the $90,000 top-selling two year old of the 2007Riverbend Ranch Female Sale and records a weaning ratio of 129 and yearling ratio of 115 while post-ing ultrasound ratios of 128 for IMF and 112 for REA. Her dam, Rita 3B8, posts a progeny weaning ratioof 119 and yearling ratio of 110 combined with a birth ratio of 100 on her two natural calves, while her32 progeny evaluated by ultrasound earned average IMF and ribeye ratios of 100 and 102, respectively. Her 18 sons have sold for an average of $5,708 and include Riverbend Cornerstone, selected by the part-nership of Basin Angus Ranch and Daltons on the Sycamore as the $17,500 top-selling bull of the 2009Riverbend Ranch Bull Sale, and Riverbend Goodnight, the $15,500 second high-selling bull of the 2008Riverbend Bull Sale. Five daughters of Rita 3B8 have sold at public auction for an average of more than$43,000 and include Riverbend Blackcap S139, the $39,000 second high-selling bred heifer in the sameevent, and Riverbend Blackcap R120, the $34,000 sixth high-selling bred heifer of Riverbend’s 2005 Fe-male Sale. Full sisters to the dam of R265 include the Riverbend Ranch donor Blackcap 3B2 and the$100,000 Rita 3B81, the second high-selling donor of the 2006 Wehrmann Angus Sale, while Rito 3B6,the high REA sire featured in the Wehrmann Angus herd sire battery, is a full brother. The sire of this mating, CC&7, was the top-selling bull of the 2006 SydGen Sale when half interest sold

for $39,000 to Hoover Angus, Tingley, IA, as well as the top adj. 205-day weight in the offering at 840pounds to ratio 119. As the natural calf on the first and only Corona daughter in production at SydGen in2006, CC&7 went on to post the top ADG at 3.92 to ratio 124, the top adj. 365 day weight at 1,467 to ratio121 and the top adj. URE measurement at 17.3 sq. in. to ratio 130. Continuing the tradition of fertility es-tablished by his popular sire, CC&7 posted an adj. scrotal measurement of 40.1 cm. and froze 127 unitsof high quality semen at ORIgen on his first collection day, just five days past his first birthday. His firstcalves indicate he is acceptable to use on heifers, and he records a GeneStar Feed Efficiency GPD of –3.5as well as a GeneStar Tenderness GPD of –1.1. His two closest sires rank in the top 1% for Docility EPD.With his first progeny proof, CC&7 soared 20 pounds higher on WW EPD and is one of only two sires inthe breed to rank above breed average for scrotal while maintaining $W and $B Values in the top 1%.

This mating combines the popular young sire SQ Credence 67S with 1494, a descendant of the record set-ting “Rita” family. On the paternal side of this mating, Credence is a young sire offering an unmatchedEPD profile with tremendous phenotype and structure. He ranks in the top 1% for WW EPD, YW EPD andMarb EPD and top 4% for RE EPD as well as ranking in the top 1% for all $Values—$W, $F, $G and $B.The bottom side of the pedigree is equally impressive. The dam of the embryos, New Design 1494, was

the $17,000 selection of Express out of the 2009 Three Trees Sale after originally being selected by ThreeTrees as the top-selling bred heifer of the 2006 GAR Sale, where the dam of 1494 sold as an $85,000 fea-tured donor of that same event. Recording an individual IMF ratio of 107 in the GAR performance pro-gram, this highly productive young donor has an average IMF ratio of 104 on her first 27 progeny scannedat Three Trees Ranch to offer a unique and valuable combination of the moderate birth weight and su-perior marbling genetics that have made the Angus breed the cornerstone of the beef industry. GAR NewDesign 1300, the grandam of 1494, is a direct daughter of the $400,000 GAR EXT 614 and now serves asa foundation Rita female for Bushy Park Farm of Maryland.
