Sum-up: New monochrome printer with verygood features.

OKI has recently debuted several new mono-chrome single-function printers and MFPsintended for offices that don’t require colorprinting. Among those devices is the B512dn($499). It prints at up to 47ppm with a first-page-out time of 4.5 seconds. It also has a100,000-page monthly duty cycle, althoughOKI recommends a print volume of 750 to5,000 pages per month.

There is a 667MHz processor, 3GB memo-ry, and 2.5GB flash storage memory. PCL,PostScript, PDF, XPS, IBM ProPrinter, andEpson FX are all standard. USB and GigabitEthernet is standard. Wi-Fi connectivity isoptional. The B512dn also supports mobileprinting, such as Google Cloud Print™,AirPrint™ for Apple iOS, and OKI® MobilePrint app for Android. There is also theEncrypted Secure Print function.

Paper handling starts with a 530-sheet stan-dard tray and a 100-sheet multi-purpose tray.OKI offers an optional 530-sheet tray($183.99) for a maximum capacity of 1,160sheets. Duplexing is standard. Paper output is150 sheets (face-down).

In addition to duplex printing, the devicehas strong environmental features, such asDeep Sleep and Quiet Modes, as well as AutoPower Off (unit is shut down after a long peri-od of inactivity).

The B512dn has an excellent cost-per-pagefigure. There is a choice of a standard (3,000pages), high-capacity (7,000 pages), or extra-high-capacity (12,000 pages) cartridges.Using the extra-high-capacity (12,000 pages)cartridge, we calculate the cost per page to be1.4 cents.
