Each abstract should contain the following elements:– a sentence stating the study objective (unless given in the title)– a brief statement of methods– a summary of the results obtained– a statement of the conclusions– acknowledgements of funding source(s)

It is not satisfactory to say “the results will be discussed.”Limit your abstract body to 250 words.

Fonts and symbols:

Use the Times New Roman font for the entire abstract.

Title:

Use a short, specific and declarative title (<15 words). The abstract title should be prepared in UPPERCASE.

Authors:

Please list authors as First name, Initial, Last name.

Tables and figures:

No tables or figures are allowed.

Abbreviations:

Use standard abbreviations for units of measure. Other abbreviations should be spelled out in full at first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.

Notification of programming:

The presenting author will be notified by email by Feb 21 concerning the title, date and time of the session for which their abstract is scheduled, the format of presentation, and the specific presentation time.

Graduate award competition:

If you would be like to be considered for a graduate presentation award please indicate in the email associated with your abstract submission. Please also indicate the degree program you are currently in (MSc/PhD) and the name of your primary supervisor.

Abstract content

Venue:

The Symposium will be held at the beautiful Silver Star Mountain Resort, British Columbia, Canada (winter.skisilverstar.com). The resort is located at the north end of the Okanagan Valley, approximately 20 minutes by car from the city of Vernon.

The nearest airport is Kelowna International Airport (www.kelownaairport.com/index.htm). The airport is approximately a one hour drive from Silver Star. By air, Kelowna airport (YLW) is approximately one hour west of Calgary and one hour east of Vancouver.

Silver Star is in the Pacific Time Zone (Coordinated Universal Time minus 8 hours).

Dates:

The Symposium will commence Thursday afternoon and will end Saturday evening with the option to stay and ski on Sunday. Check out is Sunday March 23rd, with the option of extending your stay at the 15% discount.

To book your room, a non-refundable deposit of the first night plus tax is due at time of booking. The final balance will be charged automatically 30 days prior to arrival and is non-refundable.

The deadline for hotel registration is January 15, 2014. Registrations received after the deadline will be subject to availability.

Accommodation options:

Two main accommodation options are offered: standard hotel rooms with various bedding configurations, or apartment style suites equipped with full kitchens. All accommodation is centrally located in the village. The option you select on the registration form will determine the cost of your stay during the conference. All prices are in Canadian dollars and subject to tax.

You may arrange to increase the length of stay at Silver Star Mountain Resort by contacting the Silver Star Mountain Resort Groups Department.

Airport transfers:

Transportation from Kelowna International Airport to Silver Star Mountain Resort can be arranged with your booking. Flight information is required a minimum of 2 weeks prior to arrival at the resort and flight details are required to confirm shuttle pick-up and drop-off times.

Travel time from the airport to Silver Star by road is approximately one hour.

Payment and hotel registration deadline:

To confirm hotel registration, payment details must be included with the hotel registration form. If you are sharing your accommodation, a ‘room leader’ must be chosen to act as the main point of contact between the group sharing the room and the resort representative. The room leader will be responsible for making payment and collecting funds for lodging from the delegates they are staying with. Lift tickets and activities can be organized individually if needed.

Silver Creek LodgeFeatures:

All units have access to two shared roof top hot tubs and coin operated laundry. All units have a balcony, are non-smoking and do not allow pets. Silver Creek has complimentary wireless internet access throughout the building and cable TV in each unit. There are ski lockers and an exercise room beside the newly renovated (2011) lobby and front desk.

Studio: 1 bath – $169/nightOccupancy: 2 – 6* Size: 505 Sq. Ft. A studio unit offers one queen bed, a set of single/single bunk beds (child size), one queen sleeper sofa in the living area, dining area with a table for six, full kitchen with microwave and dishwasher, gas fireplace and one full bathroom with hair dryer. All units have access to one outdoor hot tub and coin operated laundry. Free outdoor parking in front of hotel or in parking lot A and most are pet friendly with no additional charge. Bulldog hotel has complimentary wireless internet access throughout the building and access to on-site ski locker storage. Also located within the hotel is the Bulldog Grand Café, offering a varied menu including Dutch & Thai-Indonesian Cuisine with a hint of West Coast Fusion. Standard rooms:

Standard hotel rooms have all been fully renovated. The rooms consist of two queen beds, one king and a double pullout couch or one queen bed and a set of bunk beds. All bathrooms have rain shower heads. The rooms are equipped with a Sony LCD 26” TV, phone, iPod clock radio, coffeemaker as well as a mini fridge. FREE Wireless Internet access. A continental breakfast is included with your stay. All standard hotel rooms are at rate of $127/night based on 2 adults. 3rd and 4th adults are an additional charge of $20 per person, per night.
