Oils of Ancient ScriputreIn The Beginning…• When God created plants it was on the 3rd day, while

he created man and woman on the 6th day (Genesis 1:13, 26-31).

• Proverbs 21:20 – “There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise”

• “Oil” is specifically mentioned 191 times in the bible, but there are over 600 references to essential oils and/or the 33 species of plants they come from

• Essential oils are referred to as “fragrances”, “odors”, “ointments”, “aromas”, “perfumes”, or “sweet savors”

The Two Types of Oils Plants Make1) Essential

• Created to circulate within the plant to carry oxygen & nutrients to cells

• Enters our blood stream and can cross the blood-brain barrier

• Molecules small enough to penetrate cells2) Fatty (Olive & other vegetable oils)

• Do not circulate within the plant• Can’t enter the blood stream or cross the

blood-brain barrier• Molecules too large to penetrate cells

Significance of Essential OilsEssential Oils • Assist the body in detoxification, i.e. removing

toxins out of the cell– How? – they have the highest level of oxygenating

activity of any substance known to man• Oxygen helps push toxins out and helps pull potassium back

in, maintaining normal cell balance

• Research shows that they support every body system: Immune, respiratory, excretory, skin, hair, skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular etc.

The Prayer of Faith

• James 5:13-15 NIV13 

• Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.

Essential Oils and FrequencyEssential Oils • Have frequencies from 52 to 320 MHz

Chemistry of Essential Oils• One drop contains approximately 40 million-

trillion molecules• Numerically that is a 4 with 19 zeros after it.

40,000,000,000,000,000,000. • We have 100 trillion cells in our bodies

• So one drop of essential oil contains enough molecules to cover every cell in our bodies with 40,000 health-building molecules

Biblical Background

• The original healers were priests who often did their healing in temples (Exodus 37:29; Leviticus 14:15-18)

• So who are the priests of today?• Today we are all a royal priesthood.

– I Peter 2:9– In Luke 10:1-9

Royal Priesthood• God’s word gives all of us authority to anoint:

• I Peter 2:5 “Like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

• I Peter 2:9 we are all “A chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own chosen race…”

Meaning of “Anoint”• Anoint means “to cover, rub or smear the head

or body with oil”. The Hebrew word for anoint “masach” is very similar to the English word massage.

• The Hebrew term, “masach” is also the root of the term “Messiah”. Since the New Testament was not in Hebrew, but in Greek, the Hebrew word “Messiah” appears only twice in the KJV (John 1:41 and 4:25) but the Greek term “Kristos” or “Christ” appears 361 times. “Kristos” literally means “the anointed one”.

• Anointment means “an ointment”

Bible References of Oils Impacting Our Emotions

• Psalms 45: 7-8 -- “Therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. All thy garments smell of myrrh, aloes, and cassia out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

• Proverbs 27:9 -- “Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart” ( Solomon said this)

• Isaiah 61:1, 3 -- “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek,.. to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning.”

• Hebrews 1:9 -- “Thou has loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness.”

Oils and Emotions

Oils Impacting Our Emotions • The four senses of touch, taste, sight and

hearing do not directly stimulate our emotions – They pass their signals to the frontal lobes of the

brain 1st and reach the emotional brain 2nd.

• Your nose is wired different– Smell travels to the emotional brain 1st, stimulating

emotion, and then passing to the rational brain 2nd.

The Aroma of Essential Oils• The aromas of the oils touch our emotions in ways

that cannot reach them by any other means. – When the are things about our health we do not

understand, they may stem from buried emotions. If so, essential oils can assist in releasing such blocks to our health and happiness.

Method for Inhaling Oils• Put a drop of oil in the palm

• Careful, as some oils are thin and come out of the bottle FAST!

• Make several clockwise circles with your fingers• Rub your palms together and cup them over your

nose and mouth (avoiding your eyes) inhaling the vapors

Oils of Joy• Psalm 45:7 suggests that among the oils of joy

were myrrh, aloes (sandalwood), and cassia. Many other oils in biblical times were also mood elevating.

• Young Living’s oil of Joy® is a blend of essential oils used in biblical times including rosewood, jasmine, and roman chamomile. • Also contains oils not known to be used in biblical times

including bergamont, mandarin, lemon, ylang ylang, geranium, and palmarosa.

• Contains rose oil. This oil has the highest electromagnetic frequency of any known substance (320 MHz)

Healing Oils of the Bible

• Ezekiel 47:12 – Along the banks of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine.

Exodus II• Very similar to The Holy Anointing Oil, used by

Moses • A blend of oils, all of which are mentioned in the

book of Exodus, except Spikenard• Modern science shows us that this blend contains

immune-optimizing compounds

Thieves*• A blend of highly revered and powerful essential

oils, many of which have been used from ancient times.

• The name “Thieves” comes from a group of 15th century thieves who rubbed oils on themselves while they robbed the bodies of the dead and dying.

• Optimizes a healthy immune system

Three Wise Men• An oil blend that contains Frankincense and

Myrrh, two of the gifts that the 3 wise men brought to the Christ child

• All oils in it are mentioned in the Bible, except Spruce

• Spruce was used during Biblical times by soldiers to give them courage when going into battle• Valor is a blend that has a high concentration of Spruce,

and is supportive of making emotional changes and giving courage. Supports energy alignment.

3 Important Constituents of the Oils

• Phenylpropanoids (phenols) – May assist in cleaning /detoxifiying the receptor sites on the cells. With clean receptor sites cells can communicate, and the body can more easily maintain it’s vibrant health.

• Sesquiterpenes – Deliver oxygen molecules to cells, like hemoglobin does in the blood. Can also erase or deprogram miswritten codes in cellular memory. Have the ability to go beyond the blood-brain barrier.

• Monoterpenes – Reprogram miswritten information in the cellular memory (DNA). With proper coding in cellular memory, healthy cells can now replicate healthy cells.

Aloes/Sandalwood• John 19:39 - “And there came also Nicodemus,

which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pound weight.” ***worth $150,000 – $200,000 in today’s market***

Modern Uses• Skin Care – moisturizing and normalizing • May be relaxing in the evening• Uplifting

Cinnamon/Cassia*These are two species of the same genus, Cinnamomum

Cassia was a key ingredient in the temple incense. “All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.” (Psalm 45:8)

Ancient uses: Holy anointing oil, perfume

Modern Uses:• Helps maintain normal blood sugar levels• Supports health immune function simply by ingesting them

or putting them in a hot/cold beverage• May assist in “getting one in the mood”

Cedarwood2nd Highest of any oil in Sesquiterpenes (98%)King Solomon’s temple built from the Cedars of

LebanonAncient Uses: Skin, Calming, Embalming, Modern Uses:

• Keep clothes fresh • Supports Healthy Skin• Supports Age Related Hair loss• Relaxing in the Evening

CypressCypress oil mentioned in a Babylonian tablet dating 1800

B.C.

Modern Uses:• Comforting during the winter season• Refreshing• Restores feelings of security and stability• Beneficial for oily or troubles skin

GalbanumExodus 30:34-35 – And the Lord said to Moses: “Take

sweet spices, stacte and onycha and galbanum, and pure frankincense with these sweet spices; there shall be equal amounts of each. You shall make of these an incense, a compound according to the art of the perfumer, salted, pure and holy.”

Modern Uses:• Supports the immune, digestive, respiratory, circulatory and

other body systems.• Aid for troubled or mature skin• Occasion minor muscle discomfort associated with exercise• May minimize age related wrinkles

FrankincenseMatthew 2:11 – “And when they had come into the house, they saw

the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshipped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense and myrrh”

Modern Uses:• Research “Boswellia Carteri” and Boswellia Sacra”• Promotes positive thoughts• Supports healthy skin• Inhale frankincense essential oil after lunch to

spiritually refocus• Rub frankincense essential oil on the bottom of your

feet to help alleviate nervous energy.

Hyssop• Exodus 12:22 – “And you shall take a bunch of

hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two basin doorposts with the blood that is in the basin...”

• John 19:29; Psalm 51:1-4; Psalm 51:7• Ancient: Addictions and destructive habits, purify

from sin• Modern Uses:

Emotionally calming Noted for its purifying properties. Hyssop has an approximate ORAC of 209,167

Myrrh• Genesis 37:25; Revelation 18:13; Matthew 2:11;

Mark 15:23 • The most frequently mentioned oil of the bible. It

is mentioned 156 times. • The gift of myrrh given to Jesus at his birth would

have also benefited Mary as Myrrh may minimize stretch marks

• Ancient/Modern Uses: Feeling of general well being, for healthy skin and perineum

care, may optimize a healthy umbilical cord Age related wrinkles High in sesquiterpenes which have a direct effect on the

hypothalamus, pituitary and amygdala.

Calamus• Exodus 30:23; Song of Solomon 4:13-14;

Ezekiel 27:19• Ancient Uses: Holy Anointing Oil, perfumes,

incense. An aromatic stimulant and tonic for digestive system.

• Modern Uses: • Helps relax muscles• Supports Respiratory System• Supports Healthy Kidney Function

Myrtle• Nehemiah 8:15; Esther 2:7; Isaiah 41:19, 55:13;

Zechariah 1:7-11 • Research by Daniel Penoel M.D. of France

• myrtle is effective for the entire endocrine system including support for the thyroid, hypothyroid, and ovaries, and soothing to the respiratory system

• Modern Uses: • Supports a healthy glandular system• Maintains a Healthy Respiratory System• Supports health skin

Onycha

• Exodus 30:34 • Valued for its ability to support healthy skin• Ancient Uses: Perfume, blended in holy anointing

oils, comforting, soothing, uplifting, an ointment for healthy skin. Used as a fixative.

• Modern Uses:

• Helps maintain a healthy stress response• Uplifting to the mood• (other uses omitted due to FDA…but you can

research this oil on the internet)

Rose of Sharon/Cistus*

• Song of Solomon 2:1;Genesis 37:25, 43:11• Rose of Sharon of the bible was Cistus Ladanifer,

also known as rock rose, cistus, ladanum, and labdanum. This is not the rose that we think of today.

• Ancient: elevating moods and perfume• Modern Uses:

• Cleansing• Mediation • Counseling• Traditionally used for respiratory support

Spikenard• Song of Solomon 1:12, 4:13, 14; Matthew 26:6-7;

Luke 7:36-38; Mark 14:3; John 12:1-3• Chemistry: Sesquiterpenes 93%, the third highest

in Sesquiterpenes of all known oils • Ancient Uses: Perfumes, skin tonic, incense, mood

enhancer, minor anxiety.• Modern Uses: • Highly regarded as a health supporting herb• Soothing for the skin• Uplifting, relaxing, soothing, emotionally calming,

mood elevating.

Healing Oils of the Bible

• Revelation 22:2 – In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

When God created this world, he created everything naturally for us, and he gave us every substance that we will ever need to protect our bodies from all the things that we have to deal with, just like he gave the Israelites.

Things to Look for in Essential Oils

• Need to be stored in dark glass• Beyond Organic• The only ingredient should be the specific oil• No preservatives / chemicals (For a true pure oil,

no preservatives are needed and no expiration date)

• Extracted by steam distillation at minimal temperatures and pressures with optimal timeframes

• No chemical solvents should be used in the distillation process
