The Kingdom in the New Testament - The announcement - John

Mat 3:1-12 Now in those days John the Baptist *came, preaching in thewilderness of Judea, saying, (2) "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven isat hand." (3) For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet whenhe said, "THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE READY

THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT!'" (4) Now Johnhimself had a garment of camel's hair and a leather belt around hiswaist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. (5) Then Jerusalem wasgoing out to him, and all Judea and all the district around the Jordan; (6)and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as theyconfessed their sins. (7) But when he saw many of the Pharisees andSadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? (8) "Therefore bearfruit in keeping with repentance; (9) and do not suppose that you can

Matthew 20 - The wealthy land owner and the tenants

Matthew 22 - The wedding feast

    Why parables?

Mat 13:10-11 And the disciples came and said to Him, "Why doYou speak to them in parables?" (11) Jesus answered them,"To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the

kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.

    Spiritual Kingdom

Matthew 11:11 "Truly I say to you, among those born of womenthere has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yetthe one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater thanhe.

    How can this be?

John greatest ever born of woman

    Why was he the greatest?

All other prophets told of a Kingdom coming in the future

John said here it is. What a great privilege

    Least in the Kingdom?

    Remember Nicodemus?

    There must be a rebirth

Was John born again? Born again of the Spirit

Paul faced trials preaching the Gospel of the kingdom.

Act 17:1-10 Now when they had traveled through Amphipolis and

Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue ofthe Jews. (2) And according to Paul's custom, he went to them, and forthree Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, (3) explainingand giving evidence that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from thedead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is theChrist." (4) And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul andSilas, along with a large number of the God-fearing Greeks and a

number of the leading women. (5) But the Jews, becoming jealous andtaking along some wicked men from the market place, formed a moband set the city in an uproar; and attacking the house of Jason, theywere seeking to bring them out to the people. (6) When they did notfind them, they began dragging Jason and some brethren before the cityauthorities, shouting, "These men who have upset the world have comehere also; (7) and Jason has welcomed them, and they all act contraryto the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus." (8)

They stirred up the crowd and the city authorities who heard thesethings. (9) And when they had received a pledge from Jason and theothers, they released them. (10) The brethren immediately sent Pauland Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went intothe synagogue of the Jews.
