Trane Provides Reliable and High-efficiency Cooling for The West Island Line

Trane Hong Kong has been awarded all the three contracts to provide Trane Optimus™helical-rotary chillers for the West Island Line (WIL) project. The WIL is an extension of theMTR Island Line from Sheung Wan to Kennedy Town, with intermediate stations at SaiYing Pun and the HKU. Construction of the WIL began on 10 August 2009 and the linewas commissioned on 28 December 2014 except for Sai Ying Pun Station, whichcommissioned service on 29 March 2015.

Trane Provides Reliable andHigh-efficiency Cooling for TheWest Island Line

Trane Hong Kong has been awarded allthe three contracts to provide TraneOptimus™ helical-rotary chillers for theWest Island Line (WIL) project. Commitment to reliability and efficiency

MTRC has rigorously reviewed the options available and finally selected Trane Optimus™helical-rotary chillers for the three new stations because of their high reliability and energyefficiency. The efficiency level of our chillers offer was up to 22.6% higher than the BEC2012 standard requirements. Modern digital controls deliver precise temperature control.Another merit is the compact design, which makes it easy for installation in the limitedspace of the Metro stations. The lighter weight of the chillers minimizes rigging and liftingrequirements.

In fact, the Trane RTHD Optimus™ chiller incorporates the highest level of design andmanufacturing accuracy to ensure the performance. Over 75,000 Trane Optimus™ chillersare installed around the world, a testament to their unequalled reliability. There are morethan 250,000 helical-rotary compressors (including both air and water-cooled chillers)operating with our proven direct drive, low speed, semi-hermetic compressor design.These facts, along with over 25 years of helical-rotary chiller manufacturing know-how anda continued drive to improve the operation, guarantee the sustained reliability of a Tranechiller.

Reliable testing method

The rigorous design verification helps warrant reliable operation under different operatingconditions. Testing involves:

• Extreme testing, including cold ambient starts, hot water starts and high ambientoperation

• Compressor-accelerated life cycle testing, including high-pressure ratio, high load test,flooded starts/stops, start/stop testing and phase reversal

• FEA analysis to confirm the unit structure can withstand shipping, rigging and operationalactivity

• Electrical testing with destructive testing of the short-circuit withstand rating

The RTHD Optimus™ chillers meet stringent MTRC safety and reliability requirements.The chiller control systems react quickly to changing operating conditions, such as suddenfluctuations in power and chilled water flow rates. An Eddy Current Test on the condenser

tubes was successfully undertaken by a third party to ensure that the installed tubes are inprime condition.

Results

The eight Trane RTHD Optimus™ chillers installed at the Sai Ying Pun, HKU andKennedy Town stations have been running successfully for more than 18 months, servingan estimated 160,000 Hong Kong peopleᵃ every day.

The Trane Optimus™ helical rotary water-cooled chiller was composed of the TraneAdaptive Frequency™ Drive (AFD) and features Adaptive Control™ algorithms, bothmaking them economical cooling solutions for most buildings.

Oil Analysis – A Fitness Test For Your Chillers

If we compare a chiller unit with our human body, the compressor is the “Heart” of thechiller. However, we do not have any idea of its internal physical condition judging merelyfrom the daily operation data. For our body, we examine our body fitness by having anannual physical test and blood test. For the chillers, we can get a "look inside" byestablishing an oil analysis without dismantling them.

When unacceptable wear conditions develop inside the compressor, a correspondingdetectable change in the characteristics of the oil will become evident. Oil analysis canprecisely pinpoint the machinery problems before any breakdown occurs and provideearly warning signal of potential problem.

We highly recommend our client to perform oil analysis once a year for their “Trane”chillers by the Trane Chemical Lab. We test an oil sample for the following properties:

• Metal wear

• Moisture • Acidity

• Viscosity (optional) • Aniline point (optional)

• Solid residue (optional)

The standard Trane Chemical Lab oil analysis report will include:

• Numerical data on all tests performed as well as data from previous samples on thesame compressor

• Present and past interpretations and recommendations on samples from the compressor • Graphing of the current test data with data from previous samples for comparative

purposes

The oil analysis report provides and presents past & present test data with graphs for easycomparison. By tracing the trend of the components inside the oil sample, we canevaluate the condition of the compressor. Service recommendations would be included inthe report by qualified and experienced service engineer about the condition of thecompressors.

By establishing routine oil analysis for chillers, you could benefit from:

• Avoid costly repairs

• Schedule repairs to reduce downtime • Eliminate the premature changing of oil and refrigerant

• Reduce the problems associated with disposing of used oils and refrigerants • Decrease maintenance costs

• Increase operating efficiency • Extend operation life

Trane Sintesis chillers are part of the Ingersoll Rand EcoWise™ portfolio of products designed to lowerenvironmental impact with nextgeneration, low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants and highefficiencyoperation.

Trane Sintesis chillers are available now and can operate with either R134a or Opteon™ XP10 (R513A), anonflammable, low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant from The Chemours Company. Opteon™ XP10provides an excellent performance and efficiency match to R134a, with a 56 percent reduction in GWP.

Trane Sintesis chillers utilize up to 40 percent lower refrigerant charge due to the compact, highefficiency,integrated, low refrigerant (CHIL) evaporator designs and microchannel condenser designs. In addition to reducinggreenhouse gas emissions, this portfolio provides increased building efficiency, multiple acoustical treatmentstrategies for low sound output – and comes standard with AdaptiView™ control panel for simplified operation.

Ingersoll Rand Representatives from China visit Trane Hong Kong

Mr. Daniel He, Sales Manager, Customer Centre, and Mr. Weixin Qiu, Sales Engineer ofIngersoll Rand in China, visited the Trane Office at Kwai Hing on 13 April 2016. There wasa discussion about future cooperation and better support for our customers in Hong Kong.

TYS Scheme “A” Engineer Walk The TYS Scheme “A” Engineer Walk took place on 15 April 2016. More than 40 peoplejoined the walk, including Mr. K. K. Leung, Director & General Manager of TYS,representatives from Ingersoll Rand, managements of TYS and HKIE Scheme “A”Trainees. They took the Hong Kong Rail Section 4 and enjoyed the stunning scenery eventhough there was light rain.

After the hike, a dinner was held at the Hong Kong Football Club. Mr. Wilson Kwong, ChiefExecutive of Jardine Engineering Corporation (JEC) also joined the dinner. All participantsenjoyed great food and played games together.

JSA McKenzie Cup Basketball Tournament 2016 In April 2016, the Trane Hong Kong basketball team faced stiff competition against a totalof 16 contenders to advance to the JSA McKenzie Cup Basketball Tournament Semi-finalfor the first time since joining the league. Our team finished in third/fourth place afterlosing to the Gammon Heat team, the first runner-up and defending champion. Colleagueswho participated in this event showed great sportsmanship during the game. Theydeserved our cheers and congratulations on their great efforts.

An interview with Uncle Au

Au Hung Sheung was a senior supervisor at Trane Service Hong Kong. Everyone callshim Uncle Au. He joined Trane in the 1980s, and became the most senior supervisor atTrane. We used to see him surrounded by some young technicians of the company,asking for advice on technical questions. He was highly respected and admired by juniors.Uncle Au retired this year, and is now leading a leisurely and fulfilling life. As he wasrecently meeting his friends at the company, we took the opportunity to talk with him abouthis stories.

Uncle Au moved into the industry in 1962 after a referral from one of his friends. He hadnever had any exposure to air-conditioning work before. He worked at 北極公司 wherethose who taught him technical skills were all master workers who came from Shanghai.The air-conditioning installation projects undertaken by the company were mainly forhotels and theatres. However, at that time, most places in Hong Kong, including officesand so on, were not equipped with air conditioning. Uncle Au learnt about the latesttechnology, becoming an air-conditioning technician of the first generation.

He subsequently joined高力冷氣, enabling him to acquire a comprehensive understandingof air-conditioning projects. During this period, he was in charge of various projects suchas 新雅酒店, Grand Plaza and 澳門戲院. Whilst working at 遠東紗廠, he handledeverything related to the design, assembly and start-up of the whole chiller system.

Subsequently, he even once worked on humidification and thermostat projects aboard anocean-going vessel and was also involved in a chiller storage project aboard a shrimp

trawler. He left his footprints in Mauritius, Malaysia, Panama, Greece, Venezuela andother places. In addition, Uncle Au worked as a contractor and a foreman with his friends.

Uncle Au joined Trane in the 1980s when the company had only 20 to 30 staff. Hewitnessed the processing of Trane products for more than a decade and really admiredthe company’s stable personnel environment because it allows technology to be passedon and customers to receive quality services. The flexibility of the team can often getproblems solved and make the impossible possible. Looking at buildings in Hong Kong,such as the Bank of China Tower which is equipped with Trane chillers from generation togeneration, Uncle Au is very proud.

When asked what recommendations he would offer to juniors, he said attentiveness,safety, prudence and risk management are the most important.

Uncle Au is really enjoying life after retirement. He goes for a walk in the park and hasmorning breakfast at a Chinese restaurant every day. In addition, he loves to sometimesgo to listen to hearings at the Eastern Magistrates’ Court because of his interest in casesand also because of his own studious spirit. As juniors, we will definitely pass on his open-minded, serious and studious attitudes.

Lee Garden Three is owned and developed by Hysan Development Company Limited(Hysan) and is under construction on the former site of Sunning Plaza and Sunning Court.It will be comprised of 20 floors of spacious Grade A office space sitting atop a five-levelpodium of retail shops and a remarkable range of food and beverage establishments.

特靈為西港島線提供可靠及高效能的供冷系統

品質承諾

港鐵公司仔細考慮各方案後，最終決定選用特靈RTHD Optimus™水冷螺杆機為三個新車站的空調機組。這主要由於此機組的可靠性高和能源效益佳。該機組之最高能源效益較諸BEC 2012 基本要求高逾22.6%，透過現代化數碼設計提供精確的溫度控制。而且設計輕巧細小，方便於地鐵站內有限的空間安裝，並減少使用索具和起重工具的需求。

結果

機油檢驗 - 為你的冷水機組進行效能測試

如果我們將冷水機組與我們的人體比較，壓縮機就是冷水機組的「心臟」。然而，我們不能單從日常操作數據了解其內部的實質狀況。對於人體，我們會每年進行身體檢查和驗血，以測試身體機能。對於冷水機組，我們可以進行機油檢驗來了解內部狀況，無須徹底拆解機身。

當壓縮機內出現磨損時，機油的特性將相對呈現明顯而可以檢測的變化。機油檢驗可以在故障發生前及早精確地指出機械問題，為潛在問題預早提出警報信號。

我們強烈建議各位客戶，每年進行一次由Trane Chemical Laboratory為「特靈」冷水機組進行機油檢驗。我們的機油樣本測試，主要針對以下屬性：

• 金屬磨損

• 水分 • 酸度 • 黏度 (可選)

• 苯胺點 (可選) • 固體殘渣 (可選)

標準的Trane Chemical Laboratory機油分析報告包括：

• 所有測試的數值數據，及相同壓縮機的過往樣本數據

• 目前和過往對壓縮機樣本的解釋和建議 • 以目前測試數據與過往樣本繪製圖表，以便比較

機油檢驗分析報告以圖表提供和呈現目前和過往的測試數據，方便比較。透過追踪油品樣本內的零件趨勢，我們可以評估壓縮機的狀態。服務建議將由合格和經驗豐富的服務工程師，分析壓縮機的狀況。

英格索蘭中國代表到訪特靈英格索蘭中國代表Mr. Daniel He 及 Mr. Weixin Qiu 於2016年4月13日到訪特靈在葵興的辦公室，進行了有關未來合作及支援香港客戶的討論。

TYS工程畢業生培訓計劃(Scheme "A")學員遠足 TYS 於2016年4月15日舉行了工程畢業生培訓計劃學員遠足。TYS董事總經理梁基強先生、英格索蘭代表、TYS管理層及香港工程師學會工程畢業生培訓計劃共有超過40名培訓生參加。他們在雨下走完港島徑第四段，天氣不佳亦無損大家欣賞美麗景色的心情。

完成遠足後，參加者在香港足球會共晉晚餐。怡和機器行政總裁鄺永銓先生亦有出席，與大家一起享受美食及豐富的遊戲節目。

JSA McKenzie Cup Basketball Tournament 2016 2016年4月27日特靈籃球隊首次晉身JSA Mckenzie Cup Basketball Tournament 2016四強賽事。此次比賽共16隊參賽，競爭激烈。特靈籃球隊與今屆冠軍金門籃球隊對壘，結果以26比34輸掉比賽，於四強止步。參加的同事在賽事中展現了體育精神，雖未能奪冠，仍恭喜他們獲得佳積。

特靈經銷商會議晚宴 2016

特靈經銷商會議晚宴於3月14日九龍帝苑酒店舉行，分享了2015年的工作成果及2016年新產品推廣計劃。TYS董事兼總經理董事梁基強先生，特靈香港董事總經理(系統及工程)陳偉平先生歡迎今年新加入的經銷商。當晚所有客人都十分享受晚宴,特別是香港旅遊發展局烹飪最高榮譽金獎的菜式「鶴湖蟹影」，並度過了一個難忘的夜晚。

訪問區叔

區鴻湘，前特靈空調服務高級主管。人人都叫他區叔。在80年代加入特靈，是特靈最資深前輩。以前在公司總會常常見到一些年青的技工圍著他請教技術問題，很受後輩的尊敬和擁戴。他剛於今年榮休，過著悠閒充實的退休生活。最近籍著區叔回公司聚舊的機會，我們十分高興能和他做訪問。

區叔於1962年經朋友介紹入行，以前從未接觸過冷氣方面的工作。他就職於北極公司，傳授技術的全是來自上海的師傅。公司接的冷氣安裝項目都是酒店和戲院的工作，而當時香港大部份的地方包括辦公室等都還沒有安裝冷氣的。區叔學懂了最新的技術，成了香港第一代的冷氣技術人員。

及後加入高力冷氣，對冷氣工程有了全面的認識。其間負責過新雅酒店、雅蘭中心、澳門戲院等項目。在遠東紗廠工作的時候，整部冷水機的設計、組合及開機都由區叔一手包辦。

之後更試過在遠洋船上負責加濕恆溫的工作，亦參與過捕蝦拖網船上的冷倉工程。歐叔的足跡遠至毛里求斯、馬來西亞、巴拿馬、希臘、委內瑞拉等地。區叔亦和朋友做過判頭和科文。

區叔在80年代加入特靈，當時公司只有二三十人，幾十年間見證著特靈產品的進程。他最欣賞公司穩定的人事環境，令技術得以傳承，客戶得到優質的服務。團隊的靈活變通總能令問題得以解決，使不可能變可能。他看著香港的建築如中銀大廈用了一代又一代的特靈冷水機，感到十分自豪。

問到區叔對後輩的建議，他說細心、安全、謹慎、以及風險管理最為重要。

現在區叔很享受退休後的生活，每天都到公園散步和到酒樓飲早茶。此外，區叔有時候還喜歡到東區法院聽審，除了對案情有興趣亦是由於本身的好學的精神吧。我們作為後輩一定讓區叔的開明、認真、好學的態度傳承下去。

新增工程

利園三期

特靈香港最近取得利園三期於銅鑼灣希慎道、開平道和新寧道重建項目的冷水機組供應合約，為此項目提供可靠及高能源效益方案，包括4台特靈CenTraVac™R123水冷式離心機和1台特靈Optimus™水冷式螺桿機。特靈CenTraVac™水冷式離心機組是最可靠、有效、低排放、低噪音的機組，是行內首屈一指的產品。

該項目為新寧大廈及新寧閣之重建發展項目，是希慎位於銅鑼灣商業物業組群的其中一項建築。工程包括建造 20 層甲級寫字樓及 5 層商場設施。
