General Exhibit Requirements Project check-in: Bring your exhibit to the fairgrounds on Monday, August 5, 2019 between 5-8pm. Project check-out times are: Supervised - Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 7-8pm Unsupervised - Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 8-9pm

Monday, August 12, 2019 during the day, after that projects will be at the Extension Office until September 13.

1. Completed project books and Member Project Guides are required at all judgings. If book and/or guidelines are not complete or not present, the letter grade will be lowered and the member is not eligible to place.

2. Appropriate attire for judging will be required. Appearance should be neat, clean, and respectful. No shorts, tank tops, tube tops, halter tops, midriff tops, or low rise jeans should be worn for judging or for the small project auction.

3. All projects displayed at the fair must be identified with name, age, and project. Display must be for the current year's project.

4. Junior division includes ages 13 and younger, senior division includes ages 14 and older as of January 1 of this year. If numbers in a project warrant it, the junior class will be split to include a Beginner class.

Designates projects that are eligible for the state fair, if member is selected. Denotes Small Project Auction Eligibility for first place winners. 4-H'er must make the sale item and it must relate to the project. Read Small Project Auction Rules. Sign up by July 31, 2019. **New for 2019 - No checks from the Livestock Sale or the Small Project Auction will be mailed! All checks will need to be picked up at the Erie County Fair Sr. Fairboard Office on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 9am to 1pm. Checks can only be picked up by the exhibitor or immediate family member with a valid form of ID and all checks will require a signature of the person picking up the check.

**All sale checks must be cashed by November 25th of the current year or funds are forfeited. This includes issued checks and checks held for not meeting requirements, i.e. Thank you notes or poultry cards not submitted. No exceptions allowed. Continued on back

Projects will be judged Tuesday, July 16th after 5 pm at the Erie Co. Fairgrounds. Specific judging times for each project will be posted on our website in July.

Announcement of results will begin after 7:00pm.

WOODWORKING General Guidelines:

1. Each project book may be taken for up to 3 years before going on to the next project book. Members may choose to advance to the next project book after only one or two years if their skills warrant it. The member, the parents and the helper should decide together when to advance to the next project book.

2. All exhibits shall consist of items made by the 4-H exhibitor to demonstrate skills learned in the project. Your fair

exhibit shall be the item on which you were judged.

3. All exhibitors will participate in an interview with a judge and display a project at the fair. Please be sure your name is somewhere on your project for both judging and fair.

4. Exhibitors shall display one or more articles from their project book or article(s) not from the project book, but requiring the same skills and tools as those in the project book (members may use any or all tools listed in lower level projects). Demonstration of skills and knowledge are important.

5. Exhibitors may not use projects which were made for school.

6. Project books and your plans must accompany exhibit to judging. If the book and/or plans are not present, letter grade will be lowered and exhibitor is not eligible to place.

Woodworking Exhibit Divisions & Guidelines

Measuring Up and Making the Cut: the member is expected to do 90% or more of the project. A helper may dimension

the lumber to the correct width. 556 Measuring Up Level 1 - Participants should exhibit a project which shows they have learned how to use hand tools including: Any non-power tools (hammers, saws, clamps, layout tools, shaping tools, etc.). Plus the following power tools if they have safety instruction & closely supervised by a knowledgeable adult: Sanders, cordless drills, saber saw and scroll saw.

557 Making the Cut Level 2 - Participants should exhibit a project which shows they have learned how to use hand tools including all tools listed for Measuring Up plus: the following power tools if they have safety instruction & closely supervised by a knowledgeable adult: miter saw, table saw, drill press, band-saw, thickness planner, cordless trim saw and power nailing devices.

For Nailing It Together and Finishing Up: the member is expected to do 100% of the work. 558 Nailing it Together Level 3 - Participants should exhibit a project which shows they have learned how to properly use tools in its creation. A member may use a wide variety of non-power and power tools including radial arm saw, lathe, router, power circular saw, and shaper if they have safety instruction & are closely supervised by a knowledgeable adult. Use of advanced joining techniques (mortise & tenon, pocket holes, dovetails, etc.) encouraged if matched to member skills. Projects should demonstrate the member has increased their knowledge and skills over previous projects.

559 Finishing Up Level 4 - Participants should exhibit a project which shows they have learned how to properly use tools in its creation. A member may use all non-power and power tools if they have safety instruction & supervised by a knowledgeable adult. Project should demonstrate the member has increased their knowledge and skills over previous projects.

560M Woodworking Master - Project should show creativity, proper joinery technique, good layout & design. Projects might include: intarsia, carvings, marquetry, lathe work, original designs and antique furniture reproductions.

*Junior Fair projects may not be sold on the fairgrounds except through the fair project auctions.
