Year 11 EnglishYou will study:

In English at Year 11 you will have a mixture of internal

Intermediate ESOL

Aim

-Improve your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in English to help mainstream subjects.

-Work towards Level 1 Literacy

• Write information texts and recounts.

• Wide reading.

• Give a presentation to an audience.

Assessments

• -ESOL unit standards (Levels1 and 2)

• English unit/achievement standards (Level 1)

• -Speech New Zealand OCESOL (Oral Communication in English for Speakers of Other Languages)

• -City and Guilds International ESOL exam

• -ESOL exam (school)

*** You will do work and assessments at your level. We understand that students

of the same age can be at differing English levels. Hours of ESOL depend on

your level of English.

Year 11 MathematicsIn Year 11 Mathematics is compulsory. The course you will be

in will depend on the class you are time tabled for

There are 3 courses in Year 11.

Year 11 Maths with algebra study algebra, number, statistics

and geometry. Assessment is three external achievement

standards with four internal Achievement standards

Year 11 Maths with Measurement course is similar to Maths

with Algebra but measurement is also studied. More

assessment is internal assessed and there are only two

external standards

Year 11 Maths Numeracy look at number, measurement,

statistics and probability. This course is all internally assessed.

Mathematics is the study of patterns and is a required

skill for many career choices.

Year 11 Science

splits into Biology, Chemistry and Physics in Year 12.

• History is about the study of past events, people, places, issues,

movements and much much more. In History we investigate

what has happened in the past to help us understand the world

today.

• In 2011 we will investigate key moments in world history from

ancient times to today. This will include a detailed study of 20th

century events that shaped the world.

Year 11 EconomicsIn Year 11 Economics: In Demand we examine the

problem of getting enough income to buy all the goods and

services that we think we need and want. We look at how we

make choices and what factors influence our choices.

Our other two externals examine how Producers decide what

to supply to Consumers and how the Government impacts on

both Producer and Consumer decisions.
