Title / 题目: Power spectra of random velocity heterogeneity and scattering strength of the solid Earth Time / 时间: 11:20-11:45, 26 October 2019Speaker / 讲员:Haruo SATO, Tohoku University, Japan

Speaker Biography讲员介绍

Prof. Haruo SATO received the Doctor of Science Degree in Geophysics from the University of Tokyo in 1984. Currently he is a Professor Emeritus in Tohoku University. With a rich series of academic experiences and a long list of awards, Prof. Haruo SATO’s research objectives are as follows:

The structure of the lithosphere is inhomogeneous reflecting the dynamic evolution of the solid earth. The objective of the research is to study the lithospheric inhomogeneity by using seismological methods The researches develop wave scattering theory in random media having rich short wavelength spectra to establish the mathematical foundation for the interpretation of short period seismograms The researches also develop a practical method to measure the power spectrum of random inhomogeneity from thev envelope broadening of seismic waves with travel distance increasing and the coda wave excitation. Information about scattering and absorption is useful for understanding the geodynamic process but also for the quantitative prediction of strong earthquake motion.
